CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
CATHERINE’S POV
I cleared my throat loudly which interrupted their intimacy.
“I thought you said no one knows you are here, my dear Alpha,” the lady said, touching Burke’s beard, something I had always wanted to feel but held myself.
Burke turned to look at me with disgust in his eyes, making me remember the last seven years when he married another woman after our one night together; we were each other’s first.
“Let’s act like she isn’t here,” He said, turning his attention back to the lady as he placed his left hand in the middle of her ass and the other in her hips; I tried to turn away from the sight, but my eyes were fixed there.
“Would you mind mam?” The lady asked sexually, wiggling her ass at me, that has to be the most ridiculous question I have ever been asked, but it was polite of her to ask; at least she wanted my opinion.
“Yes, I would; I am here to talk business with him, please,” I replied to her question, and she laughed Sarcastically, kissing Burke again on his lips.
“Unfortunately, your opinion isn’t needed,” She said, and I stared at her in disgust; why the hell did she ask me the question if my opinion wasn’t even needed?
“You can come to join us, though,” She continued talking, and I looked at Burke, only to realize his eyes had been on me since probably he was trying to see my reaction.
“Are you not going to say anything?” I asked, feeling hurt; my voice was even cracking, and I felt stupid for asking him for a kiss the other day.
Burke inhaled deeply before returning his attention to me, his eyes fell on my boobs, and I bent to look at them, only to see my cleavage was opened.
I adjusted my dress and looked back at Burke.
“What is the problem? I am fucking busy, Catherine Flynn,” He said, calling my name in full; he was probably angry at something, but that wasn’t my business, I wanted my kid’s safety, and that was all I could think of.
“My children are in danger; I can fucking feel it,” I said, and the care that once left Burke’s eyes returned in full force, making me wonder if he already knew they were his kids as well.
“I’ll talk to you later Regina,” He said, pulling her away from himself.
I remember Ava telling me he was in bed with Regina and I thought she was trying to get to me when it was actually true.
“Gosh,” Rejina scoffed and left the arms of Burke, who smacked her ass before she left.
Soon we were all alone, and I gave Burke the letter from my children.
“They drew a snake at the back of the letter, which means danger Burke,” I said, and he turned the back of the letter to look at it.
“Is their father a wolf? Why would you be teaching them wolf slang?” He asked, and I wanted to tell me yes, that in fact, he was the father, but I didn’t; rather, I ignored the question.
“I thought your men were protecting my children?” I asked angrily, and Burke nodded in response.
“These might be some tricks your kids are trying to play, and you are falling for them helplessly; you need to calm down; children play a lot,” he said, and for some weird reason, I felt a little bit at peace.
I felt at peace because Burke’s men were watching over them, meaning that they wouldn’t get killed, no matter what.
“Just like how you were playing with Regina and how you played with me a few days back,” I retorted, as I remembered Burke and Regina kissing.
He turned to look at me without any emotions on his face; he wanted to reply to me. I knew it, and I felt it, but he didn’t; rather, he returned to his weightlifting.
“The same way you played me seven years ago, acted like it was all cool; call me back to the pack to do it again,” I said; this time, I was almost crying.
Burke stopped what he was doing and walked towards me; when he got to where I was, he pushed me to the door and tried to kiss me, but I turned my head away.
“Is that your way of saying sorry?” I asked rudely.
“Fuck no, you are messing with me, I can’t even think straight, and now the moon goddess made you my second fucking chance mate, and you don’t feel the strong mate bond as I do,” he yelled, using his hand to push his hair backward.
“Is that why you were kissing a whore?” I asked, folding my hands under my breast.
“I can hear you, I’m still at the door,” we heard Regina’s voice from outside the door.
“Regina, I said you should excuse us,” Burke yelled with authority in his voice, and we heard footsteps moving away.
“I want a night with Regina, so I can forget about you and the fact that you are engaged to another man,” he replied to my question.
“The other day when Harley saw us making out, all you could think of was Jaxon finding out; I was fucking hurt,” Burke’s voice sounded like he was hurt, but that wasn’t my fault.
I was scared that Harley would write to Jaxon and tell him that I was cheating, I didn’t know my actions would hurt him and he didn’t even tell me he felt hurt about it, rather he told me to rest that he would do something about Harley so that Jaxon doesn’t find out about the kiss.
“Why are you even bothered about the fact that I am with another man? You have never cared for me; why the sudden change of behavior?” I asked, confused.
Burke looked at me from the corner of his eyes; his silence was taking too long, and I wanted to punch the answer out of his because I was getting impatient.
“Because I am in love with you, Catherine Flynn,” he said, and my eyes widened in surprise.
