CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
CATHERINE’S POV
The pain that came when the arrow hit my left shoulder is something I won’t be able to explain, not even in the next five years.
I fell to the ground and everything turned black, the only voice I could hear was that of Burke yelling,
“Catherine.. fuckk”
Suddenly, I opened my eyes to find myself in a room painted and decorated in black; it was Burke’s room; I couldn’t count the number of times I landed on Burke’s bed because my life was at risk.
A few weeks are staying in my pack, and people want me killed already.
“Fuck, you are alright,” I heard Burke’s voice and turned to look at him; his face was filled with fear and worry, and he looked like he had not slept in days nor even bathed.
“How long have I been here?” I asked, seeing that the clothes I had on were different; I was wearing a baggy shirt, which belonged to Burke.
“Three days, Cat, you blacked out for three days, giving me a heart attack,” He said, brushing his hair with his hands, an attitude he got addicted to while we were growing; that was his coping mechanism when he was nervous and couldn’t think straight.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know I would be attacked,” I said in defense; I just wanted to save Burke, and seeing him alive meant that Travis was dead; good riddance to rubbish.
“So you killed him?” I asked, even if I knew the answer. Burke nodded his head, and a smile of pride came to the corners of my lips; for no reason, I was proud of Burke.
“You should know I always have things under control. Don’t try to save me again; I can’t live knowing you are dead,” he said, giving me a stern look; I smiled, knowing how protective he sounded.
“If you don’t want me to save you next time, tell me thing. I heard all about Travis from Ava, who was Weeping, telling me you were going to die; how do you expect me to live when you are dead,” I said rolling my eyes.
The room was silent, and our words of affection lingered in the air, I could feel Burke’s eyes staring at me, making me question his stares.
“Why the fuck are you staring at Burke?” I asked, smiling at him.
“Because I can feel the mate bond now, and it seems you are feeling nothing,” He said, clearing his throat.
I thought the other night was a mistake, but it wasn’t; Burke is feeling the mate bond with me, but I can’t feel anything, probably because I have closed my heart to mates and love.
“Let’s not talk about that again, please; I just want to focus on Ethan,” I said, resting my head on the pillow, when I recalled we hadn’t talked about Ethan’s health.
“Shit, how is Ethan,” I asked, realizing I blacked out for three days meaning no one knew how he was.
“He is fine, Catherine. One of my most trusted Guard is in his room to see no one tamper with his drip,” Burke said, and I felt at peace upon hearing that.
“What do you want right now?” Burke asked and my eyes immediately fell to his lips.
“I want you to kiss me,” I said without thinking; I regretted my action a minute later when Burke was silent about my request.
“Catherine, you know I’d love to do that without a second thought,” He said after a minute of Silence; I knew he was about to give me an excuse not to kiss me.
“But what Burke?” I asked impatiently because he fell silent again.
“But you are not in a good condition right now; I mean, look at you; you almost died,” he said, pointing to the bandage that wrapped around my left shoulder; I had not initially noticed it because the pain there was minimal.
“I am fine, Burke, kiss me,” I said nonchalantly, pleading for a kiss from Burke. What the hell is wrong with me?
Burke looked at me before bending his head down, and our lips were facing each other.
“If anything happens to you, I won’t forgive myself,” He whispered into my lips.
“Nothing will happen to me, it’s just a kiss,” I whispered back, my hormones were getting wild, already, Burke hesitated, so I placed my hand behind his head and drew me close to my lips
Our lips met in a heartwarming kiss, tongues intertwining and playing with each other. He tasted like coffee, and my quick guess was that he had coffee this morning; passion ignited, and our breathing quickened.
Burke’s fingers traced my jawline, sending shivers down my spine. I deepened the kiss, our bodies pressing together, making me moan.
“Are you okay?” Burke asked between my lips, wanting to break the kiss, but I kept him in place.
“I’m perfect,” I answered and our kiss deepened.
His hands cradled my face, thumbs brushing against my cheeks. Our lips danced a sensual rhythm.
My arms wrapped tighter around his neck, pulling him closer. Our hearts beat fast at every minute.
Burke’s hand found my right bread, and he pressed unto it gently, making me moan.
Burke’s kisses trailed down my neck, sending shivers. I moaned softly.
His lips returned to mine, the kiss intensifying, and our emotions running wild.
Time stood still.
Just as our passion peaked…
A knock sounded on Burke’s door, but we ignored it anyway; we were too involved to get distracted, as Burke kept playing with my nipples, making me lose control; for that money, I forgot that I was cheating on Jaxon and just enjoyed what Burke had to offer.
“Are you okay?” Burke asked again, and I think I have heard that a million times since we started kissing.
“Fuck Burke, I am fine, just kiss me already,” I said, with the little voice I had; Burke had not allowed me to catch my breath since we started kissing.
“Look at the White, cheating on her, Man,” I heard Harley’s voice, and Burke, and I broke the kiss immediately.
Fuck, Harley won’t tell Jaxon about this, I think I’m in a deep shit right now.
