CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
HARLEY’S POV
Ava kept pacing around the room aimlessly, making me exhausted; I don’t know why she was that restless; it was not like we killed someone.
“You said she won’t get hurt; you said she won’t fucking bleed,” She yelled, looking at me with anger; I know she was scared of blood. That was why I kept that information to myself.
“I would have told you the truth, but you wouldn’t have gone for the message if I had told you, and you know I can’t go, she won’t drink anything from me, I have already blown away the chance I had,” I said, smiling devilishly, the sound of Catherine screaming out of pain on her bed, made me happier. I would have loved to hear her scream; too bad I couldn’t witness it.
“What if she dies, you don’t even think about me?” Ava yelled, still walking aimlessly into my room.
I have a room in Burke’s Mansion, and that was on Ava’s order; Burke hates going against his little sister, so he had to allow me to stay.
“She won’t die, it’s just a poison to prevent… ”
“I know what it’s used to prevent, that is not the issue, “Ava interrupted me before I could finish my statement.
“Did she drink all the orange juice?” I asked so I could be certain that there was no mistake because there is no avenue for mistake right now; I needed Catherine out of the way so I could get Burke.
“Of course she did, I made sure of that, although I was scared as hell that I would be caught,” Ava said, still shivering, it was obvious Ava would not be able to hurt a fly, and I’d have to model her to my taste, until I’m done using her.
” I thought you were smart enough for the taste,” I scoffed, and Ava turned to me immediately with anger in her eyes.
“I am fucking smart okay, I won’t be able to forgive myself if she dies,” Ava yelled, as she was still fidgeting, it was getting on my nerves but I’ll have to keep my cool, Ava is the only person that’s on my side in Burke’s family, Ethan doesn’t like me, because I am from Hoang pack.
“First of all, keep your fucking voice down; someone might hear you,” I said in a hushed tone, getting off my bed to check if the door was locked, and Luckily it was locked.
“Secondly, she is not going to die. I know exactly what I’m doing, so you have to calm down and allow my plan to work,” I said harshly, and that was the magic because Ava cooled down and sat on my bed.
Although she was still sweating profusely, the air conditioner was on to the highest.
“You know to calm down,” I said, and immediately I heard a knock on the door.
Ava jumped to her feet, and the fear I was trying to remove came back again, now in multiple folds.
“Who the fuck is that?” Ava asked me in a hushed tone, she had fear in her voice.
When I wanted to reply to her question, I heard another knock on the door, louder than the previous one, and I knew Burke was the one knocking at my door.
“Shit, it’s Burke; he must have found out what I did; she did not lose her memory of what happened earlier this morning,” Ava said, fidgeting, and if Burke sees her like this, then I’ll cover would be blown.
“Shit, Ava, keep it the fuck together if you don’t want to go the north Turret,” I half yelled, and I was certain Burke did not hear me.
“It’s Burke; Harley, open up the door; I need to talk to Ava,” Burke said, giving the door a louder knock.
“I’ll get the door now, Burke,” I said politely and turned to Ava before heading for the door.
“Don’t blow our fucking cover,” I said in a hushed tone, and Ava started trying to look brave.
” Hey, dear husband,” I said to Burke immediately as I opened the door. He just groaned in reply.
“Where’s Ava? We need to talk,” Burke said sternly, and he tried using his eyes to search for his sister.
“You can come in if you want to,” I offered, getting out of the doorway, Although I knew Burke would kick against it.
“That is nice of you, Harley, thank you,” he said as he entered my room, to my greatest surprise.
He walked into the room and found Ava sitting on the bed, pretending to braid her hair.
“We need to talk, Ava” Burke said, searching my room for something, and a second, I regretted letting him in.
“I’m listening, big brother,” Ava said sarcastically, as she turned to look at Burke, who was still looking around for only God knows what.
“Did you serve Catherine some orange Juice this morning,” He asked without looking at Ava, and I was happy he didn’t look at her because Ava was already looking troubled.
“How did you know that,” Ava asked with guilt in her voice. That was the dumbest question to ask at this moment; now, Burke looked at her suspiciously.
“Was it supposed to be a secret?” Burke asked, staring at the poison I had poured into Catherine’s drink; my heart stopped beating for a while till he shifted his gaze from the poison that was on one of my shelves.
“No, it is not also something of interest; that’s why I’m wondering why you are asking,” Ava said, with courage and age, and I was glad she was playing the game well.
“It’s not supposed to be something of interest till something occurred,” Burke said as he walked back to where the poison was placed. I wondered what game he was playing.
“If you are going to say something, Burke, spill it. Don’t act like a coward,” Ava said, trying to look brave, but I could see she was scared as hell.
“This was poured into her drink,” Burke said, taking the poison off the shelves and my heart stopped beating immediately.
