CHAPTER ELEVEN
CATHERINE’S POV
Burke’s mansion had already gone peaceful, as I could hardly hear the cries of people and the sounds of swords hitting against each other.
I barely knew what transpired outside because I was locked in my room and Burke would not allow me out of his sight, because of how worried he would get.
Ava was in my bathroom, trying to calm herself down, she hated the sight of blood and Burke was bleeding all over.
I had to treat Burke’s injury, although he had refused to say anything about the attack from Hoang, our neighboring pack.
Burke was sitting on a chair and I stood opposite him, cleaning and nurturing his injury.
Hoang and the crescent pack had always been like a pack with two rulers. The possibility they would turn against each other someday was very slim.
“What is wrong Burke? If you don’t tell me, I will be forced to stop treating your injury, you understand?” I threatened him as I sewed his injury and he continuously flinched in pain.
Burke did answer my question, so I stopped sewing his injury halfway, leaving the needle on his skin, which appeared to be very painful, due to how he shouted in pain.
“Okay fine, I’ll talk, just patch my injury up Catherine, it really hurts,” he screamed in pain.
I continued sewing his injury, gesturing to him to speak.
“Well, Sereca is from their pack and I divorced her after finding out she cheated on me, that is why they are angry and want to fight back,” he said, and I knew that wasn’t the complete story, Burke would never leave Sereca to go free after deceiving him for years and making him father children that aren’t his.
“You think I’m stupid huh?” I asked him, rolling my eyes, he knew I didn’t buy the story, which made him a little bit frustrated, he looked like he was not comfortable telling me the truth.
“Look I’m not going to judge you, just say what’s happening so I would know how to tread for the time I’ll be here,” I said, and he nodded in agreement.
“I locked Sereca up in the north turret, for days after finding out she was cheating, I also banished her for treason, so she would never be able to come to Crescent pack.” He said, looking at my hand as I patched his injury.
North Turret is a prison meant for traitors, and anyone who had been locked in the North Turret, would not be able to belong to any pack. So Sereca is probably in the city at the moment, and her pack is angry that they have lost a member.
“Her pack begged me not to lock her up, that I could divorce her and banish her from my pack. But my heart was clouded with anger and bitterness and I wanted her to suffer” he said, as he looked up at me.
“I’m so sorry Burke, that must have been heartbreaking,” I said, but Burke did not have any emotion on his face, although I still knew he was heartbroken.
“Are you done?” He asked, ignoring my sympathy, although I did not think much of it, Burke had always hated sympathies.
“Wait a minute, I’m almost done” I replied to his question.
I rounded up his injury and cleaned the bloody skin that was around the injury.
“I’m done, you are good to go,” I said, smiling at my hands that were filled with Burke’s blood.
“Get yourself cleaned up, we need to start another cure for my father, so you can go back to your kids,” he said, joining me to stare at my bloody hands.
“Yes, I need to meet my kids,” my voice sounded nervous, although I was sure he didn’t notice.
Hearing Burke talk about my kids makes me kind of nervous, I don’t know why, probably because he is the father and he doesn’t know that.
With that, Burke left my room and I went to the bathroom to get myself washed, only to find Ava closing her ears tightly.
“I’m scared, is everything over?” She asked after noticing my presence.
“Yes Ava, do you want to talk?” I asked, as I approached her, she was sitting in my bathtub, squeezing herself tightly.
Ava was about to reply to my question when my bathroom door banged open and Harley rushed inside.
“Are you okay Ava?” She asked, as she ran towards Ava pushing me away from her way, and not even regarding my presence.
“I was so scared Harley, I thought I was going to die,” Ava said as she hugged Harley, who still did not want to acknowledge my presence.
They withdrew from the hug and Harley turned to me, and her eyes caught my bloody hands.
“What did you do to her?” She yelled, still looking at my hands.
“She did nothing other than to treat Burke who was brutally injured,” Ava replied to her question because I kept Harley silent.
Harley’s emotion changed immediately when she heard that I had treated Burke, she turned to me giving me a deadly stare, she did not even attempt to hide the fact she was jealous that I had treated Burke.
“How is he doing now?” She asked, giving me a fake smile. I assumed she was smiling so she could impress Ava. Deep down she would have loved to strangle me for laying my hands on Burke.
“He is fine now, his injury will heal soon” I replied to her, returning her fake smile. I did not know the kind of game she was trying to play but I would play along with her.
“I’ll be in my room now Cat,” Ava said, as she left the bathroom leaving Harley and I alone together. I hated how awkward it was, and wondered why Harley did not leave with her.
“He doesn’t love you dear,” She said, coming towards me.
“So he loves you huh?” I asked, sarcastically. That was not supposed to be my reply, but that was all I had at the moment.
“Yes, he is only scared of marrying me because I’m from the Hoang pack,” She said convincingly, leaving me to my thoughts.
Harley is a member of the neighboring pack that wants to have Burke’s head on a golden platter, what the hell?
