Chapter 50

Killian stormed through the woods, reeking all over with sweat. A burning aura emanated out of him, sending shivers to all the wolves that came across him.
While walking, his mind was never off Sara, and he kept on thinking about her, racking her brain so hard as he tried to remember when he signed the contract.
The last thing he remembered was him being in a meeting with the elders, and it seemed his memory went blank afterwards.
He suddenly stopped, taking a deep breath, and channeling all of his energy to his nose.
“Wolf, are you ready?” He asked his wolf, which instantly replied to him.
“To find our mate? I am ready!” He replied, while Killian smiled for the first time in several hours. His heart was filled with hope, and he prayed to sense Sara’s whereabouts this time around.
He meditated for some seconds before sniffing hard at the environment, inhaling every bit of scent that was nearby and faraway, but there was something wrong, he couldn’t find Sara’s scent no matter how hard he tried. He was beginning to get furious and angry, he tried once more but the result was the same. He knew someone must have deliberately hidden her scent.
“Or it’s possible that she hides her own scent out of fear that the guards might notice and catch up with her.” His wolf said, causing Killian to sigh deeply.
“You are right. I never considered that. How then does she want me to find her if she hides her own scent.” He said with a slap on his head. He bent close to the ground, burying his head in his arms.
“Wolf. Did I truly sign the papers? Did I truly cast her away with my own hands?” He asked, his voice shaky and unstable. He was trying so hard not to break down, since he needed energy to find Sara.
“I know you didn’t…but honestly, I felt some kind of incense burning in the hall that afternoon. I wanted to warn you about it, but I guess it was too late. I couldn’t say a thing before I passed out.” His wolf said, while Killian sprang to his feet.
“What did you say? An incense?” Killian asked in shock, his mouth agape as the extremity of the shock intensified within him.
“Yes, an incense. I could sense it traveling up my nostrils, and it felt so uncomfortable and itchy. So, I definitely know what I was talking about.” He replied Killian.
Killian paced back and forth, trying to make sense out of what his wolf had just revealed to him.
“You said it was uncomfortable, how come I never noticed it at all?” He asked with his face wrinkled in doubt, he could hear his heartbeat crashing against his chest as he awaited his wolf’s answer.
“I really don’t know about that. I was expecting you to feel it before me, but you made no reaction to it which was surprising to me. Maybe you can’t feel the incense when you are in a human form, but only in your wolf’s form.” Killian stomped his feet to the ground as his wolf uttered the statement. He began to wonder who could be so bold to poison him right in the pack house.
“I know what to do. I will ask the elders if their wolves felt a similar reaction as you.” Killian said, turning back to the direction of the pack house.
“Don’t be stupid, Killian. I get this matter is related to Sara, but you should tread carefully on it, and don’t alert the enemies.” His wolf uttered.
“What do you mean?”
“You want to ask the elders? How sure are you that the elders are not even the ones that poisoned you? Or perhaps the first elder you will ask might be the one who poisoned you.” His wolf said to him.
“True. But do you have any one in mind?” Asked Killian, while his wolf made a negative sound.
“I am not suspecting anybody, but I know of someone you can meet for guidance. Someone who wasn’t present in the meeting with you guys.” His wolf said to him, while Killian nodded his head.
“You mean the moon priestess?”
“Exactly. Now, go and see her advice. I am tired, and want to sleep. I honestly haven’t completely healed from my heart injury last time, but now I am caught up in finding our mate. Love can be troublesome at times.” He said with a yawn, while Killian smiled. His wolf could be funny and petty at times.
He took a deep breath, and braced himself up. He wouldn’t alert the elders on his quest to solve the mystery behind the murder, and free Sara from the shackles of bondage that was forced on her.
As he was about walking away, he immediately felt a huge whirlwind blowing fiercely as though someone powerful was about to ascend from the sky. Killian flung his eyes in the direction of the wind, and could see a huge wolf running towards him. His heart began to race, as his injured wolf was currently recuperating. Suddenly waking him up might deteriorate his health further, and the consequences might be severe.
The rogue wolf that aimed at him was almost the same size as his wolf, and carried a murderous aura. Its belly down to its feet were covered in black fur while the upper part of his body was a mixture of black and white.
The wolf was fast approaching, and Killian knew he could only deal with him in his human form. They both engaged in a brutal fight, and even though Killian was at a disadvantage, he still held on to a good fight, and defended himself.
Suddenly, the wolf flew into the air, gathering all sorts of energies from nature, and directed it at Killian. Before Killian could react, a swift figure blocked the attack and counterattack with a silver spear, hurting the wolf right on his right arm. The wolf growled in pain as it landed to the ground, stepped on his feet and took off with the greatest speed.
The person that had saved Killian slowly turned to him, and bowed before him.
“My Alpha!”
