Sara ran through the woods, drawing a Sharp breath as she took every step. She could hear hundreds of feet marching towards her. She suddenly grew tired as she stood by a tree to catch a breather.
She had been running all day, and judging by the colour of the cloud, it’s probably very late in the evening.
She placed her arms on her knees, panting hard, and struggling to breath.
Her stomach growled, and she was filled with a burning sensation and needed water to quench her thirst, but she couldn’t risk walking out of where she hid, the soldiers were hungrily hunting for her, like a starving Lion which can’t wait to pounce on its prey.
“You must catch her by all means, or we will all be done for.” The chief security guard ordered, boosting the morale of the guards as they put in more effort in the search, combing the bushes as though they were searching for a needle.
Tears never stopped gushing out of her eyes ever since she left the pack. The betrayal, Violet’s sudden death, and how she was framed for the elder’s murder…her heart were burdened with pain, agony and grief.
“Killian, was that you? You wouldn’t hurt me right?” She asked, speaking to the atmosphere as if he was right before her.
She held her chest, and sobbed quietly, careful enough not to alert the guards.
While she wallowed in her tears, she heard a rustling sound near her side. She flung her eyes to where the sound came from and was shocked to see a long, fat venomous viper, staring deadly at her, sliding out its poisonous fangs every second.
“Oh no!” She trembled, realizing that she was caught up between two dangers. Running away from the snake would alert the guards, and at the same time, she can’t possibly stay with the deadly snake. Each road seem to be a dead end for her, and she pondered on a solution, her heart crashing against her chest, with her veins pulsating fiercely.
The viper suddenly rushed towards her, and aimed at her leg. In response, she let out a loud cry and ran out of her hiding spot, alerting the men.
“Over there.” One of the guards screamed, while the rest followed his lead, rushing after the figure limping some meters away from them.
Sara tried her best to run, but the snake had successfully bitten her leg, preventing her from being able to run. The venom was also acting fast, her eyes began to blur and she felt so dizzy, that her legs tripped on something and she fell.
The distance between her and the guards was gradually decreasing, as they increased their pace and ran towards her.
She instantly stood up to run, but a stick was thrown at her, hitting her wounded leg, causing her to crash to the ground the second time. She suddenly felt a sharp pain in her belly, and could feel some warm liquid gushing out of her thighs.
One of the men didn’t hesitate to draw his sword at her the moment they reached her side.
“His Alpha’s orders, we are to kill her on sight.” The chief guard said, while the rest bowed in his command.
“Wait!” Sara screamed, her voice weak and shaky.
“Was it really him? Was it Killian that sent you to kill me?” She asked softly, her voice was a mixture of pain, sorrow and regret.
“Yes. And not only that, he told me to tell you that you are of no importance to him, and that he was just using you all these while.” The chief guard said curtly, not minding breaking every vessel of her heart.
To him, he was a betrayer who killed someone of her own clan. Someone like her doesn’t need to stay alive, and must be eliminated by all means.
“Did… he really say that?” Her constant tears had made her voice so thin that the chief guard could barely hear what she was saying.
“You saw it yourself when he ordered us to catch you, and you heard it with your ears.” He replied, turned to the guard, and blinked at him.
The guard bowed, raised his sword high in the sky, moving it at a fast pace to Sara’s neck.
Sara slowly closed her eyes, waiting for the moment her life would be sucked out of her body, but that moment didn’t seem to come. Rather, she heard a loud cry which was accompanied by several murmurs and loud footsteps, running away from her.
Confused, she slowly opened her eyes only to see a tall, handsome man standing in front of her.
The venom was now in full effect, and she could hardly see. But she could recognize the man from his scent as he knelt before her side.
“It’s…you.” She said before passing out.
