Chapter 39

Book:The Alpha King's Hybrid Mate Published:2025-2-8

Two weeks had passed since the annual hunting ceremony; Sara gently wiped the bandage that was plastered on Killian’s arm.
“Ouch! It hurts!” Killian uttered while Sara gave him a smirk.
“Aren’t you the strongest Alpha? I can’t believe you will complain over such a little pain.” She wimped at him, she called one of the maids and ordered her to change the bathing water.
“Yes, my Luna.” The maid gently bowed and walked out.
Sara turned to Killian and smiled gently at him. “You are hungry, right? I will have the kitchen prepare you some food.”
Killian placed his hand on her chin and smiled at her. An idea crossed his mind, and he never hesitated to execute it.
“I prefer to eat, before eating.” He replied jokingly, and Sara furrowed her brows.
“I don’t get it; what do you mean by that?” Sara asked ignorantly. She adjusted her sitting position and stared into Killian’s eyes.
“Well, this is what I mean by that…” Killian replied and gently moved his head closer to Sara’s. Just as his lips were about to make contact with hers, Sara suddenly felt her tummy grumble and threw up all over Killian.
“Fuck!” Killian yelled and rushed into the bathroom. The maids couldn’t help the silent laughter that escaped them as Killian ran out.
Sara instantly got up from the bed, but a slight headache hit her, and she nearly fell back to the bed.
“Oh no! What did I do?” She whispered, slid into her slippers, and ran after Killian.
Sara looked at Killian with innocent eyes as she arrived at the bathroom; “I am sorry, it wasn’t intentional.”
Killian nodded his head and slowly walked back to the room. The food had been placed on the table, but he had suddenly lost his appetite.
“I don’t feel like eating. I have a meeting with the council in the next five minutes, I will check back on you.” Killian said with a smile, and Sara nodded happily, glad that Killian didn’t take offense to her.
Killian walked out of the room but suddenly stopped at the doorstep.
“Right, I will instruct the physician to check up on you.” He said, and Sara hummed.
“Thanks.”
Killian headed to the council hall, it was the first meeting after the hunting festival, especially since Killian was injured and had to recuperate.
“Long live the Alpha.” The elders chorused as Killian entered the hall.
“How’s your health, my alpha?” One of the elders asked, and the others fixed their eyes on Killian’s arm.
“Oh! I am a lot better now, thanks for your concern.” Killian replied and took his seat on his grand throne. He noticed that a seat was left unoccupied, but he decided to say nothing about it.
“I called this meeting particularly because of the incident that happened during the annual hunting festival, and I am sure all of you are aware of it.” Killian paused and registered the expression on their faces.
“Yes, my Alpha.” They chorused.
Killian sighed before continuing.
“There’s a rat between us, someone so powerful enough to bring in Zayne without any of us noticing.” He said, and the elders looked into each other’s faces.
“And it’s very disheartening that such a person might be someone amongst us elders, and I very much wonder who that person could be,” Killian said, and a wave of silence swept across the hall.
“Another issue of concern is the striking resemblance between me and Zayne. I really want to know who exactly he is, his past, and who his parents are.” He continued.
One of the elders stood up, crossed his arms as a form of respect, and turned to Killian.
“I think we should appoint General Jared to oversee the issue of the betrayer amongst us; as for the resemblance between you and Zayne, it’s your own personal matter, my Alpha; we have no right whatsoever to interfere.” The elder said, and others hummed in affirmation.
“I know, so I am saying that I will leave the pack for some weeks, so the pack’s activities will be left to you guys. As for Jared investigating the betrayer, I hope no one has any objection towards it.” He rolled his eyes all over the hall.
“Since we all agree to it, then so be it. General Jared,”
“Yes, my Alpha,” Jared replied with his arms crossed.
“You shall get to the root of the matter, and give us an answer as soon as possible.” He ordered.
“Yes, my Alpha.”
“By the way, why is Elder Arnold not around?” Killian asked as he stared at the empty seat that was usually occupied by the elder.
Before any of the elders could reply, a guard rushed in; his face was full of sweat, and his hands trembled.
“What’s wrong?” Jared asked the guard, who was still dumb-stricken.
“Speak up!” Jared fired, and the guards fidgeted.
“It’s the Luna…it’s Luna Sara.” He uttered, and Killian instantly rose from his seat.
“What’s wrong with my Luna?” Killian roared, and the guard knew better than to waste time.
“She…she killed Elder Arnold!”
“What?!”
