Lydia’s heart raced as her father stood heftily in front of her. She opened her mouth to talk, but the words got stuck in get throat.
“No, Dad. It’s not what you think.” Lydia uttered as she rushed to Jared’s side.
“She is right,” Jared said, which caused Lydia’s eyes to pop out in shock.
“What?” Lydia was shocked by what her father had just said. She wondered if he truly meant what he said or if he was just pulling her legs.
Jared sighed. He pulled Lydia closer to himself and patted her hand.
“You’ve dirtied your hand with this incident already, so you have to get it clean. Also, remember that whoever wants to achieve greatness should not be held back by emotions. Sacrifices must be made, and Savannah was just unlucky to be part of the sacrifice.” He paused and threw a smile at her.
“So, in your scheme, Savannah was a pawn who was sacrificed for the greater picture. This is just like a chess game, sometimes, drastic moves are made just to aim for the win.” He continued and wiped the tears that were gradually forming around her eyelids.
“But Savannah is my friend; I don’t want her to die; I will have a guilty conscience that I was responsible for her death.” She cried.
Jared smiled and pulled her closer to his embrace.
“That’s where you are getting it wrong. You are not responsible for her death, you should blame Sara, blame her for suddenly appearing and stealing away what should have belonged to you. Blame her for causing Savannah’s death and you must be sure to avenge her.” Jared muttered while Lydia slowly swallowed her tears. Her expression gradually became stony as she panted hard.
“True. It was all because of her. I will ensure I destroy and trample on her, I will make her bow before me and beg for my mercy. I will let her understand that only I can be the Luna of the pack and that I am the only mate of Killian.” She yelled. Jared smiled and hugged her once more.
“Now, that’s my daughter. Don’t let it weaken you. Also, I will get this done by myself, there’s no need to bother yourself with it. And I can assure you that the case will be completely closed today and won’t be traced to you guys.” Jared assured her, while she smiled.
“Thanks, Dad, you are the best.” She muttered happily.
“It’s a pleasure, daughter,” Jared said before settling his gaze on Clara.
“Lydia, give me some minutes, I want to have some moments with this girl,” Jared said. Lydia rolled her eyes over the two of them before walking out of the study.
“You are the girl that the alpha allowed into the pack that night?” Jared asked her, and she bowed.
“Yes, sir Jared.” She replied and Jared moved closer to her.
“What exactly is your motive in this pack?” He asked her and Clara raised her head in an instant, causing their eyeballs to focus on each other simultaneously.
Clara made a quick-thinking as to how to reply to Jared’s question.
She was sure Jared was an enemy of Killian based on what happened just now, and the previous chief guard had once told her that she could rely on Jared.
“To destroy Killian, and help you ascend the throne,” Clara replied but was met by Jared’s thunderous voice.
“How dare you?!” Clara hurriedly bowed her head.
“But you are right. You are a very smart girl, it will be my fortune if you can work for me.” He said, and Clara slowly raised her head with a mischievous smile on her face, which caused Jared to also smile at her.
“You will help my daughter in the future also. She wants Killian badly more than she wants the position of the Luna. Whoever is Luna doesn’t matter to her that much, actually; what she cares about is Killian.” Jared said to clear any misunderstanding that Clara could have.
“Fully understood,” Clara replied while Jared patted him on the back

Jared walked into the meeting room, while two men carrying what seemed like a dead body followed him from behind.
“Greetings, my Alpha.” He greeted while Killian answered him.
“What’s that?” Killian asked while Jared ordered the men to place it down.
“My Alpha. We’ve found out the person who poisoned the Luna, and who also murdered the previous chief guard.” He replied, and Killain adjusted his seating position.
“Really? Who is it?” Killian asked curiously.
“Savannah!” Killian replied and there was a rumble of murmur in the hall.
“What?”
“She confessed to it herself, my Alpha. Here is the statement before her death.” Jared muttered as he passed on a blood-stained cloth to Killian.
“She is dead?” Killian asked in shock.
“Yes, my Alpha. She committed suicide.” Jared replied and Killian’s eyes opened wide.
Lydia ran to the hall and saw Savannah’s cold body lying on the floor. She fell to her side and wept profusely.
“So be it then, close the case and announce it to the people that the perpetrator has been found. Also, give Savannah a proper and befitting burial.” Killain ordered and Jared bowed.
The two guards that followed Jared gently pushed Lydia away as they carried Savannah’s corpse away.
“Your sacrifice shall be greatly remembered in my heart, and I will avenge you, for sure.”
“Sara, you will join Savannah wherever she is in a few days.”
