Clara ran as fast as her legs could carry her into the nearby bush. The guards were catching up with her so fast. She made a quick diversion and hid herself under a big tree. The guards ran past her without suspecting that she was there.
She heaved a sigh and made to turn when she accidentally stepped on leaves, which made a loud ruffling sound.
“Who is there?” A voice that Clara recognized to belong to the assistant general roared, and a hefty figure marched towards her.
Her heart began to race, and her armpit itched. As the assistant general approached her, someone pulled her from behind and dragged her to the top of the tree; the person also dropped something to the ground.
The assistant general arrived at the spot and couldn’t find anyone. He lit his torch and checked the surroundings, only for him to find a small Rabbit roaming around the tree. The assistant general sighed and walked away.
“Lydia,” Clara uttered in surprise as she recognized her savior to be Lydia.
“How come you are here?” She continued.
“I have been waiting for you a while. I guessed something might have happened since you didn’t return as planned, so I decided to check it out; thank God I arrived in time.” Lydia sighed, and Clara smiled.
“Thank you,” Clara muttered and proceeded to jump down the tree, followed by Lydia. She bent down to pick her Rabbit, and she rubbed her fur gently.
“Good girl,” Lydia commented while Clara smiled.
She never knew Lydia could be that smart to drop a rabbit to fool the assistant general.
Lydia drove her attention from the rabbit and focused on Clara.
“You didn’t tell me you were going to kill him.” She muttered between bated breaths, while Clara shrugged.
“I did not have a choice, that was the only way for us to keep our heads.” She replied.
“True though.” Clara dipped her hand into her clothes and threw the metal pass at Lydia.
“Have it before I forget.” She said to Lydia as she handed over the pass to her.
“Go home first, I will catch up with you later,” Clara said and turned to be on her way.
“Aren’t you coming with me? It’s very dangerous outside, guards are everywhere.” Lydia warned while Clara shook her head.
“I will be fine.” She replied and dashed into the woods.
She was careful not to alert the guards as she walked out of the pack, heading towards the forbidden forest.
She slowed down her pace when she was sure the guards were out of her reach.
After about fifteen minutes of walking, she arrived at the forbidden forest. She made a whistling sound and a man appeared in front of her.
“What took you so long?” The man enquired while Clara struggled to catch a breather.
“I was almost discovered by the guards; thankfully, I was able to escape them.” She replied.
The man rolled his eyes over the whole area as if he was expecting someone else besides Clara.
“The chief guard, where is he?” The man asked while Clara sighed.
“He is dead.”
“What? Dead?” The man screamed out in shock while Clara nodded her head.
“It’s a long story, he sacrificed himself for the greater picture.” She replied. The man stepped aside and made a bow in the form of a last respect to the chief guard.
“So why did you call me out?” The man turned to Clara.
“I want you to inform Alpha Zayne that it’s time. Killian is gravely injured, and his power has weakened. This is the best time to eradicate him.” Clara said to the man who smiled mischievously.
“That’s great to hear. You’ve done a good job.” The man commented to her.
Meanwhile, Sara was still relentlessly looking for the king’s herb all the while. Luckily, she had not come across any rogue wolf.
She had begun to grow tired when she noticed a shiny object a few meters from her. She checked the diagram the doctor had given her and it matched the herb perfectly.
“Thank you, moon goddess.” She prayed silently and walked towards the herb.
As she bent down to pluck the herb, she heard some people talking and decided to take a look. She saw a man and a woman discussing. But the voice of the woman sounded so manly that she wondered how a female could have such a thick voice.
“So we have to wait for the perfect opportunity to take him down.” The man said to the woman and Sara wondered who they were referring to.
“Isn’t the annual hunting ceremony by the corner? That’s a perfect opportunity to carry out our plans.” Clara replied to the man.
Sara was very sure they were planning to murder someone, and it was going to take place during the hunting festival when everyone would be too busy to notice anything absurd.
“Perfect then, I will relay everything to the Alpha.” The man replied.
Sara was still trying to figure out their actions when she felt some minutes crawling on her feet. She lowered her eyes to take a look only for her to see a fifteen-inch snake crawling on her feet.
In despair, she let out a scream which caught the attention of Clara and the man.
“Who is there?” The man screamed as he embarked on a heated pursuit.
