EVOLET
“Hey, where’s your Wolf?” one of the girls asked while we were entering the dining room.
I looked at her direction and replied, “He’s resting. He has been playing all day.”
“Aww! Such an adorable creature,” she and two others commented, finding it sweet.
But Cadell isn’t resting. He’s not back yet.
Derby who walked next to me with Trent in her hold, asked in a whisper, “Have you called your Mom to see if he’s on his way? It’s getting kind of late already.”
“No need for that. Cadell is not a kid. He’s older than all of us here.” I chuckled, taking my seat.
“He’ll be back. That’s how he flows.”
That’s how Cadell moves after all. He loves the night.
I’m sure he decided to roam around for a little while. When he’s done, he’ll come back.
We were soon joined by Alpha Allen, who was looking a bit rough from the hair down to his shirt.
His upper buttons were opened, like someone who just came out from a steamy room filled with… “Shit, he was sleeping with another woman,” I pointed out on seeing a maid walking inside while trying to adjust her hair.
It was rough, and her make up showed it pretty well!
“Such a pervert. And he wants a Luna? Disgusting,” I rolled my eyes, as Allen sat at the table with the damsels, starting up an interesting topic about the hunt.
“We resume with practice tomorrow, and the day after that, we dive into the arena for another round,” he shared with the girls, making them clap for him.
And as he smiled with pride, he directed his eyes at my direction, winking at me.
He’s lucky that Cadell isn’t here to see those eyes blinking at me. He’ll be so sorry that he made that move.
Throughout, he kept glancing at my point, making annoying signs to get my attention, but he got nothing from me until dinner was over.
Derby and I returned back to my room to get away from Allen, who was making an advance towards us.
He was following us from behind until a guard called his attention to something.
That saved us from his perviness.
“Cadell isn’t back,” Derby pointed out when we arrived back.
“I think you should call your mother and know what’s going on over there.”
“Derby, relax. Trust me when I say this. This isn’t the first time that old Wolf has stayed out this late. Sometimes he returns the following day after having his fun. You can ask Kitty yourself,” I said, pointing at Trent.
He lifted his head at Derby and confirmed it, repeating the same thing I just said.
“It’s one of his specialties. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it,” Trent said, patting her on the hand.
Derby smiled at us and became calm.
But that worry soon got to me after Derby and Trent left. I found myself walking over to the window many times, hoping to spot my Pervy Wolf coming.
I even wanted to contact Mom and know if he was still there, but I held back. It was late and I didn’t want to disturb her.
“Maybe he’s watching the mansion. I’ll just head to bed,” I decided, taking one more look outside the cold night, before climbing into bed to sleep.
“Why did mom send for him? Is there a problem at home?” I wondered, cuddling with the pillow.
Trying not to think too much about it, I closed my eyes and soon went to sleep.
Then at midnight, I was woken by a sound coming from my door. It forced my eyes open immediately.
That’s when I met someone standing at my door in the dark, with his back against me!
I was shocked!
“Allen?” I suspected the figure to be the Alpha and got myself ready to attack. But my feet stayed still on seeing the glowing eyes of this figure in my room, who turned around to face me.
“Goddess! You scared me.” I sighed, realizing the intruder was just Cadell.
He was making sure the door was locked, just in case that Pervy Alpha was coming.
“I’m sorry,” He apologized with a smile, embracing me with his whole weight almost dropping on my body.
From his body language, I could tell Cadell was really tired.
“You’re looking weary. What kind of work did Mom give to you? ” I asked, cupping his face.
But Cadell didn’t give me a reply. He just smiled and said, “It’s late. Let’s head to bed.”
“Okay,” I accepted his wish.
.
The following morning, Derby and I went to join the others at the arena for our training. We didn’t leave too early like the others, but we made it just right on time, when the training was beginning.
And when we got there, we met the girls watching Alpha Allen battling with his guards, instead of the damsels doing the fighting.
“Is this part of the training?” I asked one of the girls who was cheering for Allen.
She turned to face me and nodded, saying, “Yes, it is. The Alpha wants us to watch his moves and pick something for our fight. Isn’t he amazing?” she sighed dreamily, admiring Allen.
I hummed, crossing my arms.
“I thought the Alpha said the Queen wants to improve our fighting skills by inviting tough men from other packs?” Derby asked, bringing up the incident from our last training.
But the girl answered, sharing what the Alpha had told them before we came in, “He sent them back and decided to train us on his own. He feels it’s best that way.”
“Oh, okay. So, he wants to handle the work on his own? Not bad,” I uttered, watching Allen.
His fighting skills looked nothing like a training for the damsels but a way to show off himself to leave the girls impressed.
The ladies were cheering at him when he made some silly attacks against the guards, making that big head of his to swell!
Even Cadell and Trent found his moves repulsive.
“Alright,” Allen voiced out loudly, turning to face us. “I hope you were all able to pick a few things from my moves?”
“Yes, Alpha!” They chorused excitedly, grabbing their wooden swords.
“That’s lovely. Now let’s begin. One at a time, you’ll go up against me. Let’s go,” Allen said, grabbing another wooden sword.
“Is it me or does this idea sound like a trick to get to us?” Derby asked, suspecting the Alpha.
And when the first girl fought with him and failed, I immediately agreed with Derby on seeing Allen running his hand against this girl’s behind, feeling her butt.
“Yep, It’s a trick. Don’t worry, he won’t get the chance to touch us,” I said, gripping my sword tight.
Just then, Sorceress Thelma came into the arena, interrupting the training.
Her presence made my team and I uncomfortable. Probably because she took the spirit wolf energy we came for, to strengthen herself.
“Sorceress, I’m glad you could join us,” Allen welcomed, putting a stop to his practice.
“Do you have any special plans for our angels?” He asked, smiling at us.
Thelma swayed her head silently, looking at each damsel’s faces until… “What is wrong with the Queen and her Witch?” I grumbled in a whisper, when I saw the old sorceress looking straight at Derby and I.
She gave out a big grin and said, walking up to us, “Thank the heavens. Your presence proves that you’ve indeed forgiven the Queen.”
The Sorceress got everyone present in the arena, staring at us. It was getting uncomfortable, honestly speaking.
“Thank you, Girls. You really are angels,” The sorceress said standing before us. “I’m sure the Queen would be happy with this.”
“Um… Thank the Goddess, I guess,” I uttered with a forced smile, suspecting Thelma’s behavior.
She still stood there looking straight at Derby and I with her creepy grin, before dropping her attention on Cadell and Trent.
“Such lovely companions. You two are really following the footsteps of our lovely Luna Violet. I’m sure if she were alive, she’d have expressed her happiness towards you girls,” she said, staring at the guys.
What’s with this attitude?
She’s giving us all the attention and making the other damsels feel unwanted.
I thought she’d end this drama once and for all, but what she said next triggered fear into my heart.
“Your cat is a beauty, Derby. Such a bright coloured creature that dwells in our land. Hmm… May I hold him?” Thelma requested, getting ready to take Trent from Derby’s hold.
Derby didn’t want to hand him over. She held him close and said, “I don’t think he wants to be taken away from me. He can get rough if forced.”
“That’s not a problem. I think I can handle it,” She said, still making an advancement towards D!
That’s when Kitty hissed and jumped out of Derby’s arms, running behind Cadell, who shielded him away from Thelma
When the sorceress saw this… she just smiled and lifted her eyes right at me in a scary manner.
On seeing this, I knew something was going on in this old woman’s mind.
Why was she desperate to touch Trent?
Dammit! Why do I have the feeling that the sorceress knows something?
“ALPHA! ALPHA!!” Two guards came rushing inside, gaining both Alpha and the sorceress’s attention.
“What is it?” Allen asked when the guards fell on their knees before him, panting out.
That’s when they shared a news we weren’t expecting. “The Beta… He’s gone.”
“What do you mean by that?” Allen asked.
The sorceress finally gave us our breathing space and went to attend to the situation the guards had brought.
They kept hitting hard that Beta Dean left the mansion last night, promising to return in a jiffy but never did.
“We tried to contact him but nothing. We traced him and found his car abandoned at the side of the road. He’s not inside,” they alerted, surprising everyone.
Hearing this, Allen had to end the training. The Alpha wasn’t pleased with this report.
“Why will he abandon his car? Are the guards still searching?”
“Yes, they are. But it’s proving difficult.”
“How?!” Allen asked loudly, frightening the damsels with his tone.
When Thelma saw this, she said to us, “You can return back into the mansion, ladies. Training will continue this evening.”
All the girls began walking out of the arena and mumbling what the guards just said.
“He’s gone? Did he run away or what?”
I know the news on the Beta sounded disturbing, but the sorceress’s behavior was creepy!
I didn’t bother to turn around and see if she was looking at us. We just kept on walking until we got back to my room.
That’s when Trent said, shifting into his form, “Okay, I know I’m not the only one who saw what that witch was about to do with me.”
“You aren’t, Trent. We saw it too,” Cadell said, shifting.
“Thelma’s brain is beginning to move like an engine. She wanted to feel your aura and know who you really are,” He added.
“I noticed that as well. And the way she looked at me… It felt like she knew my secret,” I pointed that out, looking at Cadell.
My Pervy wolf became troubled on hearing this. He ran his hand across his face worriedly and said to Trent, “Check up on your buddy. We don’t have much time.”
“I am way ahead of you,” Trent said, already reaching out to the fellow who’d finalize everything from his end.
“It’s a good thing those guards came to report about the Beta. That was a relief,” Derby said, drawing closer to me.
“But we can’t tell how long that operation would take. Maybe the Beta just took a stroll away from his car and…”
“I’m sure we’ll be done wrecking them before they find that fool. No need to worry about that,” Cadell spoke with confidence, sliding his hands into his pocket, and walking towards the bed.
Seeing his expression… “Cadell… what did you do?” I asked, suspecting him.
He turned to look at me without uttering a word, and that only pushed me to ask further. “What did you do to Beta Dean?”
That question got both Derby and Trent staring at him.
And without beating around the bush, Cadell said, “I killed the Beta.”
“WHAT?!” Derby shrieked, covering her mouth!
Trent was stunned!
I froze in my spot, staring at Cadell in astonishment!
Did he just say he killed Beta Dean?!
The look in his eyes showed he had a reason. I know he wouldn’t take such a step unless something triggered him.
“What happened?” I asked, drawing closer to him.
Carefully cupping his face, Cadell sighed and said, “I had to do it to keep everyone safe, including Agnes.”
“Mom?” My eyes came wide when he mentioned my mother.
Is that why she called him?!
Cadell narrated what had happened and how the Beta planned on exposing the truth to the Queen.
“It’s just like that night. I didn’t want such an incident to repeat itself. He had to go,” Cadell said, referring to the night I lost my father.
I understand him.
He did what he had to do to save mother’s life.
“Cadell,” I called softly, pulling him close for an embrace. “It’s okay. It was for the best.” I ran my hand on his back, petting my Pervy wolf.
When he felt my touch, his grip went tight around my body, showing how determined he wants to keep me safe.
I was deeply touched.
It’s like Mom said. Cadell still lives with the guilt of the past.
Until all these problems are over, he won’t be at peace.
