QUEEN CHRISELDA
“Please, enjoy yourselves,” I smiled, inviting the parents of the six damsels left for the hunt, into my home.
They all bowed at me, expressing their delight to be at the presence of their great Queen, me.
I had to do this just to disguise my true motive behind this invitation. I just wanted to see Fiona’s mother face to face for the first time, and get her ready for her daughter’s bonding ceremony with my son. When I laid my eyes on her, I could see why Fiona possessed the same attributes as me. Her mother has the aura of a proud beast. Her shoulder lifted above others, making it easy for me to identify her without Fiona coming out of her room to point her out.
A true mother indeed.
“Just three more days to go and my Allen would be mated to my sweet Fiona.” I grinned at the parents, inviting them into the dining room to dine with me.
“Please, have a seat,” I said, taking mine.
As the parents made their way to their respected seats, I gestured Fiona’s mother over. Her eyes lit up with delight, proudly rushing up to my side and sitting right next to me.
As my son’s future mother in law, I want her to be by my side tonight. The others are only here for nothing. Soon, they’ll all take their daughters out of my mansion and give me the space I need to breath properly.
“Thank you for the invite, my Queen,” Fiona’s mother said, smiling at me.
I returned the gesture, expressing my pleasure in her appreciation.
“Yes, we are grateful, Queen Chriselda,” the others chorused, trying to sound respectful. I just hummed at them, taking my eyes back on my soon to be in-law.
“Do tell me about your family,” I asked, putting all my attentions on her. Her response to my questions were perfect. I was beginning to enjoy her company while ignoring the other parents. But I managed to look at them for some brief moment, so they won’t think I don’t value their presence, which I don’t.
“How impressive. I can’t wait to see how the battle ends. Who knows, maybe your daughter might be my son’s mate after all.”
“I am sure of it, my Queen,” she laughed with class, drinking from her wine.
“I’m sure all the damsels are wonderful,” I said, directing that statement to the other parents. “May the best girl win,” I said, lifting my glass to make a cheers. And the moment I did that, I noticed my guests staring at me in amazement.
It felt weird and unpleasant.
“Why are they looking at me like that?” I wondered, lowering my eyes down on myself. That’s when my gaze fell on my pendant. It was glowing purple! Just as Thelma had said!
On seeing this, my body shivered. “Violet! The spirit wolf is on the move!” I became restless, dropping my wine down while running my eyes around the room to find Thelma. She was supposed to be here but didn’t show up. “She must be in her chamber,” I muttered, getting ready to rise when Fiona’s mother said, “My Queen, you have such a beautiful pendant. I’d love to get this for my girl as a gift.”
“That would be lovely. Please, excuse me,” I said, pulling my seat back and hurrying out of the dining room.
On stepping out of my guests sight, I activated my wolf’s speed, dashing to Thelma’s chamber, and storming into her room without any delay.
“Thelma, it’s glowing!” I alerted, dropping my eyes on my sorceress, who was gulping her black liquid before facing my direction.
I showed her the pendant to see how it glowed brightly. That forced her to the center where her steaming pot was boiling, gesturing me close.
When I drew nearer to her, she touched the pendant on my neck, causing the steaming pot to glow like the pendant, before releasing its steam into the air, revealing the forest behind Red hills pack and a trail of purple energy roaming around that part of the woods.
“She’s there, isn’t she?” I asked Thelma, pointing at the spot. “Looks like that Dark Blood is trying to take her far away from us, but he’s wrong.” I smirked, watching Thelma cast her spells into the steam, releasing a bit of her power into it.
“I give you strength to bring her back to us. Strength to bring her to us,” she chorused.
In the fog, I saw something red appearing at the point where the spirit wolf’s energy was located. I patiently watched and prayed for it to overpower the wolf, only for the Spirit wolf’s energy to defeat Thelma’s power.
“ARGH!” Thelma screamed, falling on her knees.
“THELMA!” I called worriedly, rushing over to help her up on her feet. She held me and said, looking at the fog, “Looks like the bearer is getting used to the power by the minute.”
“We can’t stop now! Just… Just try one more time,” I said, gazing at the steam to see the purple energy vanishing. “What is happening?” I gasped, drawing closer. That’s when my pendant stopped glowing, showing that the bearer of Violet’s spirit wolf has sealed it away from us again.
“DAMN IT!” I sparked, hitting a glass off the table next to me. “We were so close! SO CLOSE!” I roared, grabbing my hair in frustration.
“You can contact the Alpha of Red Hills to send both his army and sorcerer to the forest. Let him know that an enemy is around his land,” Thelma suggested, taking her seat.
This was the only option left. I was about to contact him when Thelma said something that didn’t sit well with me. “If I could just have a piece of that wolf’s power, I’ll be fine again. Just a piece,” she wished, looking at the pendant around my neck.
I know what she’s thinking and I’m not going to allow my only ticket to power to be taken from me.
“Just continue with your work, Thelma. When we have the Spirit wolf, you can get the amount of strength you need. After all, I did promise you, didn’t I?” I lifted my brow at her.
She said nothing but looked the other way, reaching for her black potion.
She better stick to that for now.
I left the room to call the Alpha of Red Hills. He immediately sent both his soldiers and sorcerer to the forest to check on my behalf, but later gave me the feedback I didn’t want.
“There was no one there, my Queen,” the Alpha shared. “My Sorcerer placed some spells in the forest but didn’t feel anything. Only the animals roaming about.”
Your weak sorcerer who isn’t up to my Thelma did nothing! He’s useless!
By now Thelma would have been at that forest in a flash, if she wasn’t sitting in her room like a sick patient in need of air! The best she can do is work from her chamber, tracing the Spirit wolf when it activates its powers again.
“Thank you, Alpha,” I appreciated, ending the call.
Feeling frustrated, I stamped my fist against the wall, flashing to Violet’s face. She was always around that Rogue, making my work hard for me. “And even after death, you still want to frustrate me, you rotten corpse?! Don’t worry. I’ll make sure I get that power real soon, Violet. And your new successor will face the same fate as you. Mark my word.”
