EVOLET
“Stop running! You might get hurt.”
“Hahaha!”
I groaned out tiredly, wondering who was making so much noise at this hour. “I know we don’t have neighbors, so who is that noisemaker?” I grumbled, carefully pulling myself out from bed.
On opening my eyes, I was stunned to find myself in a familiar room. “This… This is the mansion!” I gasped, jumping out of the bed, looking around. “This is the same room I was given during the hunt,” I recognized, turning about.
“But what am I doing here?” I wondered, finding this strange.
That’s when I heard laughter coming from outside the room. It was loud and cheerful.
“Stop running for heaven sake!” Someone yelled, running by.
Curious, I carefully walked up to the door and opened it slightly. There I saw two young ladies running into a passage opposite the room I was in. The one behind wore a black attire decorated with red lines at the edges. Then the one laughing and running wore a pretty purple dress, with her black hair flowing out.
“Why won’t you listen? God!” The one in black complained, groaning out frustratedly.
“I’m sorry, Chriselda. I can’t help it,” The lady in purple said, stunning me.
“Chriselda? Isn’t that Allen’s mo…” Before I could complete my words, the lady in purple turned around, revealing her identity.
My heart flew right to my chest on seeing her face. I recognize her!
“Luna Violet?” She’s the one!
She laughed beautifully, running back to embrace the lady in black. “Don’t be mad, my beautiful Bestie. Just bear with me, okay?” Luna Violet said, cupping the face of her friend. The friend who turned out to be Queen Chriselda herself!
“What is going on here?” I couldn’t understand what was happening. Why am I seeing a younger version of the Queen and the late Luna?
“Fine. I’ll let this slide. You know I care about you, Violet. Your safety is my priority,” Chriselda said, cupping Luna Violet’s face.
The late Luna had a smile on, as she said to her, “You’re sweet, Christy. But you keep forgetting the kind of person your friend is. Now, quit your worry and let’s head down to the dining room.” She giggled, pulling Chriselda along.
But a guard suddenly showed up, breaking a serious news to the Queen. “We spotted an intruder near the pack.”
“An intruder?” Luna Violet uttered, looking amused.
“Intruder? This means I was right! Those creatures are bad news, My Queen. We need to take them out!” Chriselda suggested to the late Luna, jumping to conclusion.
Instead of doing as her friend had said, Luna Violet said calmly, “Christy I’ve told you this already. The others are not enemies but our friends. I bet this person must have missed his way or something.”
“We don’t know what he is exactly, my Queen. But from his approach towards the guards, I can say he’s dangerous,” the guard reported, surprising the Queen.
I saw pride written all over Chriselda, who looked at the Queen, waiting for her order. Still, Luna Violet didn’t react as her friend wanted. Instead, she did something I wasn’t expecting to see.
“Leave this to me. I’ll handle this intruder,” she said, shifting immediately into the same white wolf I saw!
I was stunned.
“It’s that wolf. My… My wolf!” I gasped, watching her dash off with speed.
I wanted to go after her and get some answers to this sudden revelation, only for a force to pull me back and toss me into what felt like grasses. When I opened my eyes, I found myself in the forest. I was no longer in the mansion but deep in the woods.
“How did I get here?” I asked out of fright, finding this creepy.
Suddenly, something swiftly ran pass me in the dark. I looked and saw a creepy figure dashing away like it was running away from something. My suspicion was right when I saw the same white wolf dashing pass me gloriously in her light, chasing this figure.
This bloomed my heart. I wanted to see where it was heading, so I went after it.
I followed the wolf from behind, until it got this dark figure cornered near a rock with no where to escape. The dark figure growled, expressing nothing but detest for the light coming from the Queen.
The White wolf shifted into Luna Violet, as she drew closer to this dark figure, saying, “It’s okay. I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to know you.”
The figure stopped it’s growling and didn’t try to flee.
When Luna Violet stretched out her hand to the figure, I saw a manly hand reaching out from the dark, carefully taking hold of the Queen’s hand.
And just like that, this dark figure came into light, revealing himself.
“Cadell?” My eyes widened on seeing Pervy Wolf emerging from the dark, looking into Luna Violet’s eyes innocently.
As I stared on in shock, I suddenly found myself standing in the Luna’s place, holding Cadell’s hand.
He smiled at me, tilting his head to the side sweetly.
His gesture got to me. I could feel my heart racing just gazing at his face. He had the sweetest smile ever, causing my cheeks to heat up.
But just as the moment was getting better, something strong separated Cadell from me.
“What’s happening?!” I yelled, finding myself surrounded by a great storm. And in the storm, I could hear Cadell screaming out, “VIOLET!”
“Cadell! CADELL!!” I heard Luna Violet’s roar. Everything was terrifying!
“NO!” I shouted, feeling my body landing on something hard. That forced my eyes open, revealing my location.
“I’m home?” I recognized my bedroom quickly.
I looked around and realized I fell out of bed. “That means I was dreaming? What… What a nightmare,” I groaned, rising from the floor with my hand rubbing my butt.
“Goodness, that was a hard fall,” I complained, about to step into bed when I noticed something different. “Since when did my necklace have a wolf on it?” I pointed out, staring at it.
That’s how everything came back to my head. The hunt, Gamma Dave, Cadell! And most importantly… “The white wolf,” I gasped, flashing to the horrible scene that took place at the forest.
“I was able to see that wolf when my necklace was broken. Then I ran off and… Cadell,” my mind went to him again.
Not just to him, but to the incident that transpired between us in the woods! I still remember it all!
“Oh my God,” I gulped, touching my lips. “We… We kissed. Cadell and I kissed each other!” My face turned red, as images of our make out hovered in my head, causing my body to shake.
But that was wiped off when I recalled what he did next. I looked down on my necklace and realized the wolf wasn’t the only thing that was different. The necklace itself doesn’t look like the one I first had!
This is a new one!
“Cadell.” I tightened my fist, recalling his reaction when my first necklace was broken.
That’s a clear sign that he knows something I don’t. Cadell is hiding something from me.
Desperate to know the truth, I rushed out of my room and found Trent sitting on the couch looking at the ceiling. He immediately saw me and rushed up to my side, trying to stop me from leaving.
“Evolet, you need to get some rest.”
“Where’s Cadell?” I demanded, staring at him seriously.
He saw my gaze and gently backed off, responding to my question, “He’s at the back.”
“Thanks,” I said, stepping out of the house and heading for the back.
The cold in the dark night showed that it was midnight. I had to wrap my arms around my body, rushing to the backyard.
When I got there, I found Cadell leaning against the wall, looking at the moon. He was quiet, keeping his gaze at the big ball in the heaven like he was assigned to monitor its movement.
When I drew close, his silver eyes fell on me, glowing beautifully.
I was going to shout out his name but got swept by his gaze. I felt weak just seeing them, because it kept reminding me of the scene between us at the forest.
My heart… It won’t stop fluttering.
“You’re awake,” Cadell said, approaching me. “Wasn’t expecting you to get up this early. I already made a bet with Trent that you’ll wake up when your mother arrives. Only her Wrath can pull you out of your dream word,” he joked.
But I wasn’t in the mood to laugh. I came for answers.
Out of desperation, I dragged Cadell by the jacket and pulled him close, questioning him about the incident at the forest. “What happened to me back there, Cadell?! And this necklace… This isn’t the same necklace my father gave to me!”
“Evolet,” he called, about to take my hands off. But I refused.
“I know what I saw, Cadell! When my necklace broke, something took over me at that moment. I know what it was… and it’s my wolf. My Wolf!”
“Evolet, relax!” He grabbed my arms, trying to control me. But I was finding it hard to listen. I needed answers now.
“It took their wolves before my eyes. When I tried to control it, I ended up losing my memory. Then you showed up and placed this necklace around me. You…” I dropped my eyes on the black bead around my neck, flashing to Cadell’s reaction from when my wolf was unleashed to the time I passed out.
“You knew all along,” I realized, lifting my eyes at Cadell. He stared at me quietly, making no attempt to calm my mood.
“The day we went to meet the Queen and she poured that potion on my body… She assumed I was some spirit wolf but looked disappointed when nothing happened. That’s because you did something to my necklace. You had touched it before we left for the mansion, and it somehow prevented the potion from working.”
“Evolet, can we go inside?”
“That means she was right. My wolf is the spirit wolf. You knew all along. Why… Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, feeling hurt.
Cadell couldn’t speak. He just sighed and lowered his head down.
“So, our trainings… You were only making me do all those activities for nothing, knowing well that I had a wolf trapped inside of me? You knew how to summon my wolf but kept quiet?!”
“I admit the training wasn’t for your wolf, but to protect you whenever you find yourself in danger! It wasn’t for nothing, Evolet. It was for you,” He defended, looking into my eyes.
I stared back angrily and pushed him away with force.
“EVOLET!” He roared at me.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” I yelled back, dragging my feet and feeling heavy in the heart. “Just leave me alone,” I cried, covering my face bitterly.
I have a wolf all along and he never told me. He kept me in the dark since! I thought we shared a bond? Why did he keep this from me?
Feeling the necklace touching my skin, I lowered my hands and stared at it. Then I remembered what happened to my first necklace and how it brought my wolf out.
“So, this necklace is also sealing my wolf like the first?” I asked without looking at Cadell, slowly reaching for the wolf attached to it. Only for Cadell to quickly grab both of my hands and order me loudly, “Don’t take this necklace off, no matter what! You don’t know the danger you’ll be in if they pick your scent!” He warned, scaring me with his tone.
I trembled in his hold, gulping down in fear.
“Danger?” I uttered, trembling.
That’s when I saw guilt filling Cadell’s eyes. He lowered his head sadly and pulled me into his arms for an embrace. I felt his heart beat racing fast, as he said to me with concern in his voice, “Your safety is my priority, Eve. I need to protect you from them.”
Them? Is he talking about the Royal family again?
He did mention it that night. The Queen and her Sorceress tried to suck out my wolf that day. Allen tried to force me to follow him, then Gamma Dave began his trouble and went as far as trying to kill me.
This shows that Cadell was right about them. They are after my life. But what did I do to them?
“Promise me you won’t take off your necklace. That’s the only way I can watch over and feel you no matter where you are. Please, promise me.”
“Cadell.” My heart sank at his words. I looked into his eyes and saw the earnestness buried within. He carefully cupped my face, repeating his words, “Promise me.”
“I…” My mind flashed to the dream I had of the late Luna and Cadell. Their screams in the dark storm sounded so heart breaking and scary. Could there be some kind of connection between me and that dream? What happened there?
“I promise. I won’t take it off,” I assured Cadell, trying to force a smile, but I couldn’t.
Feeling heavy in the heart, I decided to pour out my own request to him, hoping he will free me from this load I’m now carrying. “Promise me that… that you’ll explain everything to me. I want to know the whole truth about this Spirit wolf and about myself. Don’t say no, otherwise I’ll break my promise to you. So, do you agree to my wish?” I asked, staring at his face.
Cadell had this pause for a second then a heartwarming smile creeping across his face. I felt my heart beating fast, as I tried to look away. But when I felt his hands pulling my face close… “What are you…” I froze instantly, feeling his lips locking with mine!
My whole body shivered at his sudden action. It made me scream from within, making me wonder if this was my imagination or a dream.
But this was real. We’re actually kissing!
And there was something so warm about the way Cadell stole my lips, tangling it deeply with his. It felt magical and way more touching that the one Allen took from me. Almost like I have felt it way before tonight.
My body responded to his kiss. I felt like wrapping my arms around Cadell, but failed to. He drew his lips away from mine and said, “If you keep to yours, then I’ll do the same. And yes…” he poked my nose gently, “I finally got my reward. I hope I’ll be getting the next one, as you promised, my Lady.” He winked, causing my face to flush red.
I understand what he means by the next one. Now I can’t take my mind off it.
“You’re Crazy, Perv,” I said, pulling myself away and turning around to head back into the house, with my face burning from the kiss.
I smiled at this, feeling the warmth in my heart. But when I laid my eyes on the necklace, I remembered something about the first. “But that was a gift from father when I was little. If the necklace belongs to Cadell, then how did it end up with father?”
There are a lot of mysteries to be unraveled, and I can’t wait to get to the bottom of this.
