EVOLET
“What am I hearing, Eve?” Mom questioned, standing in front of me.
I was sitting on the couch when she stepped in an threw that question out of the blue.
“Huh?” I uttered.
“Don’t huh me, young lady. There’s a rumor going around the pack about the Alpha fighting two men over you!”
“Oh, that rumor? That… It’s…” I stammered, feeling troubled. With the way Mom was staring at me, I could tell a storm was about to be unleashed if I don’t do something quickly.
“What is That, It, Oh? My daughter is now the talk of the pack the second time, and it’s the opposite from the first!” Mom raised her voice, with her arms going into the air.
Then she questioned, shutting her eye lids midway, “Two men… Who are they?”
Ah Geez. I should have seen this coming. Now she’s curious to know who these men are. I can’t tell her it’s the same two pets that live under the same roof with us. She might think I’m crazy and hiding the real truth from her!
I need to be smart and give her the response she wants to hear.
“Tell me, Eve! Who are they to you?”
“They are just passers by, Mom,” I answered, looking straight into her eyes. She had her brow lifted in suspicion, waiting to see if I’d break or spill the bean. But what I’m saying is the truth, with a pinch of a lie.
“Trust me. They saw what happened and came to my rescue. Alpha Allen came out of nowhere like a maniac and tried to force me to go with him!” I narrated.
“I saw those men and ran towards them for help. They both saved me. But the Alpha wouldn’t budge. He still tried to take me away and they stood up against him. That’s what led to the rumor around the pack,” I explained myself to her, so she’d see that the problem didn’t come from me but from that Lunatic called Allen.
Her brows went down as she drifted into thoughts, crossing her arms. Mom hummed and said, “That man. What is his business with you? And the pets? Why didn’t they shred him into pieces in front of the pack, so he’d learn his lesson?!” Mom groaned, getting annoyed.
Her questioned sounded surprising, but I answered her anyway. “They were carrying out their business near by.”
“It would have been nice if they ran their claws on that man’s face!” She said, sitting beside me.
“Yeah, I wish they had attacked him too,” I supported, directing my eyes at Cadell and Trent, who sat close to the kitchen door, watching everything.
My face lightened up with a smile, wondering how Mom would react when she learns that these two troublemakers are the same men who fought Allen.
She’d go crazy.
“This!” Mom voiced out loudly, making me turn over to her point. “This is one of the reasons why I told you not to join that Luna hunt! I don’t like the Royal family, even if they rule this pack! Everything about them irritates me! God!” She swayed her head, leaning against the couch.
Her words took my mind to the time I went against her order all for the sake of love. Whenever I thought of that crazy decision, I felt like a complete fool.
But come to think of it, I only assumed Mom disliked the Royal family because she has seen Allen’s true nature before I did. But what if I’m wrong?
I don’t know if I’m just making it up, but I feel there’s more to this.
Why is she different from other parents who want their girls to be seen with the Alpha?
“Should I ask her? No, I might only make things worst for myself by adding to her anger. Maybe in the future I’ll ask,” I decided, leaning back on the couch.
Later, I went into the room to get myself set for dinner. I needed to change while Mom decided to set the table.
When I stepped into the room, Cadell and Trent walked in before the door came shut, and immediately shifted into their form.
They both looked at me with concern, while I just smiled and said, “Dinner will be served. You two should get ready to eat.”
“Sure thing. I’m starving,” Cadell said, rubbing his palm hungrily, while Trent just smiled back at me.
I returned the gesture before approaching my wardrobe to get my cloth. Only for me to feel a strong hand on my shoulder from behind, causing me to turn around and see who it was.
It was Trent. He stood next to me and said, checking out the wardrobe on my behalf, “Your mother really cares about you, Eve. I thought she’s like other women who’d force their girls into the arms of a creepy Alpha like Allen.”
“Yeah, she’s different,” I agreed, watching him pick out a peach dress with a moon design on it. That’s one of my night wears.
Pulling it out from the wardrobe, he said, carefully placing the dress against my chest, “She’s great. You need to listen to her always. She’s really looking after your well being.”
He handed me the dress, carefully tucking my hair to the back of my ear.
“Thanks, Trent. I’ll take your advice to heart,” I appreciated with a light smile, making Trent’s eyes shimmer beautifully at me.
His finger slid down to my face with a caress against my cheek. His lips moved, but no words came out. It felt like he wanted to say something else but swallowed it back for some reason.
Is it because of Cadell?
But Pervy wolf isn’t going all psycho like he usually does. He’s just sitting on the bed, checking his leg.
That’s when Trent said, pulling me out of my thoughts, “Evolet, no matter what happens, I promise to protect you from the evil eyes, especially Allen. If he tries to touch you again, I’ll make sure he ends up in the hospital. I mean it.”
“Already passing a warning, huh?” I chuckled, patting his cheek lightly.
Trent smiled at my gesture and carefully took hold of my hand, planting a kiss on it. That made my whole body shiver, sending my attention to Cadell to see if he witnessed what Trent just did. But he was still busy with his leg.
“I have to head back to my pack and attend to something first. By morning I should be back.”
“Oh, I see. But what if my mother asks for you? She might think Cadell did something to Kitty.”
“What did I do?” Cadell asked, turning around to face us.
But Trent chuckled and said, “I’m sure she’ll understand if you tell her that Kitty went on a night stroll and would be back by morning. It’s things cats do at times.” He winked, lowering my hand slowly.
I nodded and asked, feeling concerned about Trent, “I hope it’s nothing serious?”
“No, just Alpha duty stuff. I’ll be back before you even know it, okay?” He smirked, stepping back.
All I could do was watch Trent shift into my little Kitty, before dash out through the window and into the night, heading for his pack. I stood at the opened window, hoping the goddess protects him from any trouble out there.
“He’ll be fine,” I sighed, reaching for my necklace.
“So, is he gone for good?” Cadell asked, drawing closer to me from behind.
Without looking back, I responded, “No, he’ll be back by morning. He wants to visit his pack and attend to something.”
“Then he better stay in his land because I don’t want him to return to this place flirting with you all the time,” Cadell said, sounding grumpy.
My lips came spreading into a smile. He has started again. “Come on, Cadell. We’ve talked about this.”
“About what? The fact that Alpha Cat wants to make you his Luna and you chose to keep it to yourself?”
“What?” My body shivered at what he just said. How did he know?
I turned around to face Cadell and met his eyes fixed on me. He tilted his head to side and said, looking unhappy, “I heard that dried lips of his kissing your hand. It must have made him so happy.”
“Cadell, how did you know that…”
“That he proposed to you? I’m a wolf, Eve. I heard your conversation that night, but I didn’t say anything. Didn’t want to make you upset with my mood,” He pointed at his cold face, which still looked unhappy.
But from his tone, I could tell Cadell was boiling from within and didn’t want to show it. He’s really annoyed.
Sighing, I said, cupping his face while directing him away from the window, “Yes, you heard Trent making the proposal, but I didn’t accept it. I told him I wasn’t interested, but he chose to stay and try his luck.”
That last statement increased Cadell’s anger. He wanted to pull his head away, but I held him back and said, “That doesn’t mean you’ll fight with him. He’s here because of me and… I’ll find a way to get through to him. I don’t want to be his mate nor hurt his feelings. I just want us to be good friends. So, don’t allow that jealousy get into your big head, okay?” I poked Cadell’s nose, putting a smile on his face.
He grinned sweetly, caressing his cheek on my left hand, with tingling waves of spark forming in my heart.
“That’s… much better,” I said, slowly pulling my hand away.
But Cadell held it back, stopping me from drawing away from him.
“Cadell, Mom will soon call us for dinner any minute from now. Quit your drama and shift back to Wolfy!” I reminded him, about to pull my hand when I heard him say, “Does that mean you’re ready?”
“Ready? For what?” I asked confusingly, wondering what Cadell meant by that.
That’s when he said, reminding me of something that I forgot about. “To leave. You agreed to leave Wolf Fall with me after your eviction from the hunt. To be with me, away from this pack.”
“Oh that?” I chuckled, bumping Cadell. “You’re funny. Are we really going to talk about your joke that…” I paused, noticing the seriousness on Cadell’s face.
He wasn’t laughing nor acting silly like he does!
“You’re joking right?” I asked, expecting him to surprise me and say he’s pulling my legs. But none of that was happening.
“I wasn’t joking that day, Eve. I meant what I said. I want us to leave Wolf Fall to a much better and safer environment. Just the two of us.”
“What do you mean by that, Cadell?” I drew my hand out of his hold, stepping away from him. This came as a shock to me. I didn’t know he was being serious that day.
“I thought you were only joking with me because… No, I can’t leave my home. I can’t,” I refused, swaying my head and stepping back further away from Cadell.
His face expression to my reaction, showed he wasn’t pleased with my response. But that didn’t stop Cadell from walking up to me, and giving reasons why I shouldn’t remain here in Wolf Fall. “It’s not a safe place for you, Eve! Just look at that animal called Allen and his mother! The Queen and her sorceress invited you over just to bath you with some potion without your knowledge. What if their plans had worked? What would you have done if something bad happened?” He questioned, gradually unleashing his rage.
“Then there’s the crazy Alpha who thinks he can dominate you as he likes! He has so many ladies at his mansion, yet his eyes are on you! Isn’t that a sign that another drama from this people would affect you if you don’t do something about it?!”
“Nothing like that will happen. I am sure of it.”
“No, you’re not!” he sparked, scaring me with the tone of his voice.
When he saw the fear, he immediately noticed and went soft, looking into my eyes with guilt.
“Evolet,” he called, cupping my face. “Look, I’m doing this for you. You don’t understand how I feel whenever I see all these problems surrounding you. It only forces me to take action and keep you safe.”
“But Cadell.”
“Are you worried about your Mom?” He asked, caressing my cheek. Then with a smile, he said, “You shouldn’t be bothered about her. If you can’t speak to her, then I will. I’m sure she’ll agree to this.”
“Cadell, stop!” I raised my voice, pushing him back. He staggered a bit, stunned by my action.
“What’s wrong with you?! Why are you acting like some freak?!” I roared out in anger, breathing heavily. “I said I am not going anywhere with you! Don’t you get it?!”
“Evolet! Why are you shouting?!” I heard Mom’s voice. It took my attention to the door, before settling it on Cadell.
But when I looked at him, I was filled with remorse.
Cadell… He stared into my eyes me in shock, slowly looking down at himself.
I knew my respond had gotten to him in a harsh way, forcing me to speak. “I don’t want to leave. This is where I grew up. This place holds my father’s memories,” I pointed out, gesturing the house.
“I don’t know why you’re getting so worked out about all these things. It scares me,” I confessed, lowering my head and wrapping my arms across my chest, feeling the shivers all around me.
“I know I’ll be fine in Wolf Fall if you’re here with me. You’ve been by my side protecting me, even before Trent showed up. But the thought of leaving my home all because of the Royal family is a no for me. I’m… I’m sorry,” I apologized, lifting my head to meet Cadell’s broken gaze.
He’s… he’s hurt.
I was beginning to feel guilty for shattering his plans for us. I didn’t mean to ruin it for him. Making an attempt to touch Cadell, he suddenly drew way from me, causing my heart to skip unexpectedly.
I looked at Cadell’s face. He couldn’t look me straight in the eyes. He just hovered it around and said, “I just felt you’ll… I didn’t want you… I’ll be outside.”
“Cadell,” I called, trying to get closer to him. But he vanished into darkness before my hand could even reach him. I felt the sting in my heart, as I watched the dark cloud flow right pass me, until the whole room lightened up again, revealing Cadell’s absence.
His absence left this sudden emptiness inside my heart. Like something left me when he did.
I turned around to look at the window, feeling my whole body shaking. There was no sign of Cadell.
He’s gone.
.
I lost my appetite at dinner and went to bed early. Mom noticed my sudden mood and asked If I was okay. I acted sleepy so she’d leave me alone. But when she left, I felt that pain again.
My whole mind and focus was on Cadell. He left this place broken, and it’s all because of me.
“I only wanted him to understand my point. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings. It wasn’t intentional. I was just…” I couldn’t speak any further due to the pain swelling inside me. I had to cuddle myself in the dark, feeling my eyes turn heavy.
I wasn’t feeling dizzy or sleepy, but my eyes were heavy. And it’s due to the tears welling within.
I could feel it slowly filling my eyes, reminding me of Cadell and my action.
“You should have considered his feelings before speaking, Eve. You know how he feels about you, yet you went ahead and ruined everything ,” I scolded myself, squeezing my pillow tight.
“You deserve to feel this pain. After all, you said it yourself. A sad Cadell… makes a sad Evolet.” I felt the drops sliding out from eyes and down on the bed.
“I’m sorry, Cadell,” I mumbled in silence.
Suddenly, I felt an arm on me from behind. My heart skipped, forcing me to turn over immediately, just to find Cadell laying right next to me!
He stared emotionlessly at me, uttering no word.
I was so glad to see him but sad with myself for making him leave in the first place. Before I could speak and apologize for earlier, Cadell pulled me down in bed and wrapped his arms around my body, cuddling me close!
My body froze at his action. I didn’t do anything but stayed that way, only to hear him whisper to me from behind, saying, “Kitty isn’t here to trouble me, and I don’t wish to spend the night away from you. I want it to be us, alone.”
I gasped softly, feeling his arms pulling me closer to his body in the dark.
With a gentle touch to my soul, I felt Cadell’s lips brush against my cheek, whispering ‘Goodnight’ to me.
My body shivered at his voice, feeling his warmth all over me. I slowly reached for his hand and held it in mine.
Despite everything, he came back. And here we are cuddling in bed like nothing ever happened.
Cadell… Even if he’s a jealous pervy wolf, he’s just the man any lady would dream of.
He’s rare and special.
