EVOLET
“Goddess, this can’t be the end. Please give me a second chance!”
“Please, let Alpha Allen save me. I know he likes me. I’ve seen the way he stares at me.” The damsels that lost their fight, cried right next to me. They were all weeping bitterly, like it was the end of the world.
Since we lost the round, we were made to wait in the hall of the mansion before we can be sent away.
I was already getting tired of waiting that I ended up sitting on the floor, playing with Cadell. He kept me company with the childish games we played while the others howled out sorrowfully.
“Hey! Don’t cheat!” I smacked Cadell’s paw, laughing at him.
“Are you for real?” one of the girls uttered, gaining my attention. I lifted my eyes and met all their gazes fixed at me.
“What?” I asked, wondering what my crime was.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“She’s acting as if she didn’t lose a fight!”
“You are supposed to be crying, not playing! Can’t you see that we’re going to be kicked out from the mansion?! Don’t you care about the Alpha?!”
“Um…” I didn’t know what to say to this pitiful creatures, but I don’t want them suspecting my attitude.
So, to feel among, I said, pulling Cadell closer into my arms, “No amount of tears will make the Alpha help us. We have been eliminated and it’s the rule of the games. It’s best you just lock up and accept your fate. I’m already doing that.” I smiled at Cadell, scrubbing his head.
But despite my response… “Weirdo.”
“No wonder you lost. You are weak.” They spoke ill of me, resuming with their cries.
Still, I wasn’t bothered.
I resumed with my games with Cadell, until Gamma Dave and Sorceress Thelma showed up.
Their presence got the girls gathering both of them, so as to show off their wet eyes. I just got to my feet and stood behind them, listening to what the Sorceress came to deliver to us, the losers.
“An order from the Queen. She has decided to allow you all to take the items provided to you ladies during your stay at the mansion. Then you can leave.”
“But Sorceress, the game isn’t over. I thought it’s when…”
“You girls are crowding the Royal family’s home. The Queen doesn’t want to meet you here. The other losers will also do the same when they are done with their fight. As for you girls… Your journey ends here.”
“But sorceress…”
“I SAID YOUR JOURNEY ENDS HERE!” Sorceress Thelma roared, glowing her eyes at the girls, and making them tremble in fear.
I was a bit startled by her action but felt sorry for the girls. They really wanted to spend a little more time in their Alpha’s home, but now they’re being kicked out like beggars.
“How sad,” I muttered, unable to bear the tears in their eyes.
With sadness, they all walked away to get their things to leave. But I didn’t make any plans to take a thing from the mansion. I only patted Cadell and said, “Let’s go,” heading for the exit. Only for me to hear a strong voice saying from behind, “Where you deaf when I said you all should go and take the things given to you by your Queen?”
It was the sorceress. And I was sure she was talking to no other person but me.
Carefully, I turned around and met both sorceress and Gamma glaring at me. “Why aren’t you heading to your room, Omega?” she questioned, lifting her brow.
Her question made few of the girls stop to watch the drama unfolding before us.
“Don’t tell me you’re traumatized over that small battle,” Gamma Dave mocked, laughing at me. “You are the one who brought this failure upon yourself. You were never serious with your life, that’s why you lost.”
“I am neither traumatized nor bothered about the battle. I just want to head home to my mother,” I said, showing no fear.
But the Gamma wasn’t giving up on his bullying. “Oh, you want to go and cry on your mother’s lap? Wonderful. At least go along with the things the Queen gave to you while staying here for free. That should brighten your mood.” He chuckled.
“Thank you, Gamma Dave, but I don’t need them.”
“And why?” Sorceress Thelma questioned, sounding mad. I could tell from her tone that she wasn’t pleased with my behavior.
But what gives? I am no longer in the hunt nor under their mansion rules. I am finally free.
“Stop pretending like you don’t need those items. A poor Omega like yourself can make a lot of money from those things, mostly the clothes,” Gamma Dave said, getting angry.
And with a calm mood, I refused. “Again, thank you. But I don’t need them.”
“Is that so?” Gamma Dave glared at me, tightening his hands into a fist. He was looking for something to use against me, and he did find one.
“You say you don’t need anything from the Royal family, but you are still putting on the battle attire given to you. What do you have to say about that?” he smirked, pointing at me.
I looked down at the cloth I was putting on, gasping out immediately. “I almost forgot. Thank you for pointing that out.”
To their astonishment, I took off the clothes, revealing my dress inside. The same dress I wore to the mansion. I had it worn inside my battle wear, just in case.
“Wolfy, kindly drop it there,” I said to Cadell, placing the cloth on his head. He gladly walked towards Gamma Dave and dumped it at his feet disrespectfully, racing back to my spot.
The Gamma was mad. He kicked the cloth and yelled at me, “GET LOST!”
“You better leave before I make you regret ever disrespecting us, you worthless Omega,” the sorceress threatened, flashing her eyes at me.
I should be afraid after what she did to me that fateful night, but that fear was no longer there.
In fact, I no longer feared the people of this mansion. They are nothing but bad role models.
“Let’s go, Wolfy,” I said, turning around and leaving the mansion with Cadell, without looking back.
The moment my two feet stepped out through the gate, happiness engulfed me. I felt like screaming out in joy, but held it back because of the guards at the gate.
Quickly, Cadell and I ran away from the gate to a tree not too far away, and I was able to scream out joyfully, dancing. Cadell joined me. He danced funnily, making me laugh.
But the fun was cut short by a presence in the dark. It was Cadell who made me aware when he stood in my front, growling at the figure walking towards us.
“Who’s that?” I questioned, staying cautious.
“Who is that. Has your stay at the mansion made you blind?” the voice stunned me. It made my whole body shiver.
I recognized the voice, and it seems Cadell knew who it was because he stopped growling, dismissing his stance.
The figure came into light and… I saw my mother! She had her arms crossed, as she mimicked me, “Who’s that? Your voice sounds deep. What have they been feeding you?”
“Mom,” I called with a smile, running towards her.
Without holding back, I wrapped my arms around her for a big hug, feeling so happy to see her again.
“Oh Goodness! I’ve told you before that I don’t do hugs,” she grumbled, trying to push me off. But I didn’t allow her to. I held her tight and said, “I’m sorry, Mom. Please, forgive me.”
My apology stopped her from forcing me off. She just stood there, allowing me to embrace her tightly and seek for her mercy.
“I should have listened to you from the beginning. The Royal home isn’t for a weak Omega like me. I don’t belong here. Please, forgive me for disobeying you. I only wanted to make you happy again. I wanted to see you smile when I make our home better. But I was wrong.”
Tears filled my eyes as I kept apologizing to my mother for my past deeds, hoping she’d forgive me.
That’s when I felt her arms falling on me. Mom squeezed me close and said, “I’ve heard you. Just… just don’t repeat this nonsense. Always listen to me.”
“I promise, I will listen to you,” I said, nodding my head.
“Before you do anything, let me know first. I know what’s best for you. I… I’m the only one that will tell you the truth.”
“I promise, mom. I will obey you,” I sniffed, squeezing her tight.
On pulling myself out of her hold, I noticed how she turned her back at me, hiding her face. I thought she didn’t want to look at me, but my answer was gotten when she sniffed and moved her hands to her face.
She’s… She’s crying?
My heart glowed at mom’s response to my sadness. She really cares about me. It would have been more beautiful if she cried before me than hiding her tears away from my sight. Still, it’s beautiful.
She doesn’t want me to think she cares that much.
“Well, I think you deserve my forgiveness, Evolet.”
“Really?” I grinned, watching mom turn over to face me, still wiping her eyes.
“Yeah, you do. I mean… With the performance you pulled out there, you deserve it. I know you were holding back on Fiona. You just allowed her to win,” Mom said, smirking at me.
What she said surprised me. How did she know?
“Don’t look at me like that. I’m your mother, and I know when you really want to achieve something. Fiona just stroke you in the chest and your sword just flew out of your hand. You didn’t even make an effort to prevent it from touching the ground. No, you allowed it to happen! I don’t know why you suddenly felt like doing it, but I think that’s enough to show that my daughter now has a brain.”
“Mom, I… I always had a brain,” I muttered embarrassingly, tucking my hair to the back of my ear. But Mom wasn’t going to let me off that easily.
“Says the girl that stood up to me over a silly hunt,” she teased, dragging my other ear.
“Ouch,” I sounded, frowning my face. But I was happy that Mom had forgiven me.
“And who do we have here?” Mom dropped her gaze down at Cadell, who stood next to me, looking at us.
“Mom, this is my pet, Ca… Wolfy. You met him the other time,” I said, introducing her to Cadell. I wanted to mention his real name, but I felt it was best this way.
“Wolfy huh? Not a bad name. I hope you’re obedient and not troublesome like my daughter here?” she asked, stroking Cadell on the head.
He responded to her pets with delight, planting a smile on mom’s face.
“He’s cute. Welcome to the family.” She tapped his head before facing me with a big smile.
For the first time in years, I saw a new side of mom. She looked so proud of me.
I just pray things don’t return back to the way it was. I want us to remain like this, smiling and laughing as a family.
“Come on, let’s head back to the arena. The battle is almost over. That means the Queen will be summoning that Werecat for execution,” Mom said, pulling me along.
I forgot about the execution of the Alpha cat all because of the game. But now that Mom has reminded me about it, I can’t wait to see what will happen.
Together we went into the arena and sat among the crowds, watching the last battle take place.
A few people recognized me because of Cadell. They kept pointing at my direction, but I just acted as if I didn’t see them.
Once the battle was over, Queen Chriselda rose from her seat and announced to the people, “Tonight, we shall celebrate my son, your Alpha, for heroically protecting his pack from the devilish hands of the evil Alpha cat, who snuck into our land to end us! And to celebrate my son’s bravery, we will behead the Werecat and send his body to our enemies as a warning from Wolf Fall!”
Everyone cheered at the Queen’s words, singing Allen’s praise.
That Subvert Alpha stood beside his mother with pride, waving his hand at the crowd.
In disgust, I rolled my eyes, only to spot mom staring at me weirdly. I had to compose myself and act normal, so she won’t ask me questions, like why did I change my plan in becoming the Alpha’s Luna.
I better stay cool.
“Bring out the beast!” Queen Chriselda ordered. And from the right corner, a big gate leading to the dungeon under the arena came opened.
Six guards came out, pulling a golden chain out from the gate, revealing the mighty Werecat that was chained from neck to hands.
I gasped at the size of the beast and it’s beautiful stripes. “Wow,” I uttered, admiring this poor creature that was about to be killed.
He just laid there weakly, as the guards dragged him to the center while the people booed out, throwing insults at the Alpha cat.
“Kill him!”
“Make him suffer!” They all yelled out with no pity, cursing the werecat.
Now I was beginning to feel sorry for the Alpha cat. Does he deserve this punishment?
The Werecat was placed at the center of the arena, ready for execution. The Queen signaled the guard, who was going to behead the Werecat, to step forward and carry out the judgement.
The latter had a golden sword in his hold, walking towards the Alpha.
“I… I can’t. I can’t watch this.” I turned away, afraid to witness this gruesome punishment. Cadell noticed the fright in my eyes. He had to comfort me, so I won’t picture the execution, but mom wanted me to watch.
She forced me to look, calling me a baby. “Act your age, Eve. This Tiger came to destroy your pack. Let him face the judgement,” she said.
I still wanted to stand against this and look away when the unexpected happened.
The moment the guard who was going to kill the Werecat lifted his sword, the Alpha cat suddenly used his strength to pull the golden chains binding him, forcing the guards to the ground.
His action stunned everyone.
Worst, the chains around his body came falling to the ground, revealing that it was already broken before he was dragged out! This is part of his plan. He wanted to be brought to the public!
“BRING HIM DOWN!” Alpha Allen roared, ordering the guards to take down the Werecat.
When that command was made, the Alpha cat roared out loudly, terrifying the people of Wolf Fall, who immediately took to their heels, racing out in fear!
The tables have been turned. What will happen to us?
