EVOLET
While everyone else were enjoying tonight’s dinner, I was sitting in my seat, feeling unwanted.
My mood was ruined thanks to Fiona, who was stealing the Queen’s attention with her so-called angelic nature.
Everything made me unhappy. Only Derby was trying to keep me smiling, until the end of the massive dinner with Queen Chriselda.
As soon as it came to an end, I exited the room with derby, after the Queen left. All I wanted to do was get into my room, sleep, and forget about tonight’s dinner.
But like always, someone had other plans for me.
As soon as Derby and I reached a certain distance from the dining room, we heard from behind, “Where are you racing to, Queen Violet’s lookalike?”
I stopped in my track on recognizing Fiona’s voice. I carefully turned around and found her with her minions, smirking directly at me, ready to ruin the remaining hours of the day for me.
“What’s the matter? Are you feeling defeated already? It’s fine if you tell us how you feel, Eve. We all know that you’re worthless,” Fiona mocked with a smile.
The others cackled right next to her, finding it funny. But I didn’t find this hilarious one bit.
“Ignore her, Eve. She’s just trying to hide her fear,” Derby said, trying to pull me away. But she also got a taste of Fiona’s nonsense.
“Yeah, the sidekick has spoken. Always feeding you with fake advise.”
“HEY!” Derby sparked, almost storming straight at Fiona for a fight.
“Derby, No!” I yelled, holding her back, so she wouldn’t get herself into any problem.
“Just ignore her. She’s not worth it! All she has is a big mouth. Trust me…” I dimmed my eyes at Fiona, completing my statement, “She’s just like an empty barrel that makes loud noises. She’s full of nothing.”
“What?” Fiona glared at me, getting mad at my statement.
And when I saw her vexation towards my words, I felt courageous.
“Am I wrong? You do know all you do is blab and talk nonsense. If you think you are better than me… No, than all of us, then prove it,” I challenged, stepping closer to a furious Fiona.
“Prove to us that you are better at us in this hunt. Prove it by… Yes, by getting the Alpha to love and accept you before the game ends. But if you can’t…” I pointed at her. “Then zip that hole you call a mouth.”
The others gasped at my audacity, mumbling over my challenge while looking at Fiona to hear her response. But Fiona was too mad to utter a world.
I was expecting her to scoff, turn around and leave, but no, she didn’t.
Instead, She carefully took in and out a deep breathe, before saying with a cunning smile, “You sound so pathetic, Evolet. Fine then, I’m going to do it. And when I prove to you that you are wasting your time here…” she pointed back at me, smirking.
“You better carry yourself and that rodent you call a pet, and leave this place. Do we have a deal?”
Hearing this, I began to rethink my challenge. “Have I made the right decision by telling Fiona to prove herself? What if she… No, I trust my faith. When Allen sees me, he won’t even look at Fiona’s side.”
And just like that, I accepted the deal, raising my shoulder so that Fiona would see that I wasn’t scared of her.
She noticed my confidence and just scoffed, tilting her head to the side, like one cooking up something nasty in that head of hers.
Just then… “What’s going on here?” Sorceress Thelma showed up, looking at us.
We all composed ourselves with a bow, going silent.
“It’s late. You all should head back to your room and prepare for tomorrow.”
“Yes, Sorceress,” We all chorused, heading for our rooms immediately.
Derby, who took the same route with me, asked worriedly, “Are you sure about this deal? What if Fiona gets the Alpha to love her before the game ends?”
With a smile, I said, placing my hand on her shoulder, “Don’t worry. I’m sure she won’t make it. Alpha Allen won’t fall for her cheap tactics. He’s…” I flashed again to that fateful day, feeling my heart glowing beautifully.
“He’s a sweet man. I’m sure he’ll do what is right.”
“Hmm, if you say so. Thank the goddess that my reason for joining this hunt is to enjoy my life until I’m tired and ready to quit,” she said, lifting both arms in the air.
That got me laughing at Derby.
“You’re crazy.”
“Trust me, Eve. I want to enjoy my life to the fullest. This is a once in a life time opportunity.”
I had to agree with her on that. Indeed, it is.
After returning to my room, I had my shower in the nice large bathroom, before heading to bed in my comfy and soft night robe.
One thing that got me off while bathing, was the strange noise I heard outside the bathroom. I had to stop multiple times to see if it was Cadell, but there was no sign of him.
When getting into bed, I had to check again and see if that Perv was hiding somewhere, probably trying to get his nasty hands on my body.
Still, he was no where around.
“That clown! He better not be hiding under the bed to get his ugly hands on me when I’m asleep,” I groaned, checking underneath the bed.
But no sign of Cadell anywhere.
This made me a bit worried. “Why isn’t he back yet? Does he plan on staying out till the morning?” I wondered, looking at the opened window.
I recalled what Queen Chriselda had said about Alpha Allen searching for the rogue from last night, and it made me troubled.
“I hope he’s okay. Maybe I should widen the window, just in case he gets back.”
Gently, I made my way to the window and opened both sides wider than before, taking one look out into the night, and hoping Cadell was safe.
“I swear I’m going to kill him when he gets back.”
I sighed, heading to bed.
.
As instructed by the Queen, we all left the mansion for our homes, in nicely well made dresses, given to us by the Queen.
All Damsels have been given two to three hours to be with their families, and return to the mansion before time runs out.
For them, it was a happy moment, but for me… it was the opposite.
My own Mom doesn’t support my decision in this hunt, and I’m sure if I get home, she won’t give me any love or affection.
It has been like that for years now. And up till now, I don’t have a clear reason why she always treats me like trash.
I do have one, but… I’m not really sure of myself.
I took my sweet time strolling around the back, before arriving at my home to see my mother.
But on getting there, I met the house locked.
Mom wasn’t in, meaning I was all alone. But it felt nice.
I took the house key from the big flower vase settled at the corner of my home, and opened the door, stepping inside.
“Hi, home,” I said, speaking to the walls.
I took a look around the place, until I ended up in the living room, staring at mine and Mom’s photo.
And at the corner was… “Dad,” I muttered, staring at the handsome and most happiest man I have ever met.
This particular pic was taken when I was a little girl. Mom used to be so happy with me back then, until… until the tragedy that struck our home.
That night, I was kept in one of the unused rooms to hide away. I was told it was all hide and seek, and I just played along with my parents.
Not until Mom returned back in tears, breaking the terrible news to me.
Dad… He was gone.
She said he slumped while playing and died, and since then, her behaviour towards me was off.
I couldn’t tell if she was actually showing me love or just being mean towards me.
All I know is that Mom’s behaviour started after Dad’s passing. And since then, she has made my life miserable.
“You’ll forever be in our hearts, Father.” I caressed his photo, reaching for my necklace at the same time.
It has always been around me for years, and I have never taken it off for any reason.
It reminds me of my Dad, because he made me promise him that I wouldn’t take off this precious gift, no matter what.
It’s the only thing I have of him.
Just then… “Evolet?” I heard a familiar voice from behind, that made my heart skip a bit.
When I turned around, I found Mom staring at me in surprise. In her arms were two grocery bags, revealing where she had been.
“Mom,” I responded, letting out a smile, drawing closer for a hug.
But instead of getting one, Mom just walked pass me, approaching a table at the corer.
I was hurt by her action.
“Aren’t you happy to see me, Mom?” I asked, watching her while she arranged the table with all the items she got.
I was hoping for a positive response from her, but what she said just made me upset.
“Now that you’ve been evicted from the hunt, you now remembered my house and came to beg me, huh? What a joke.”
Evicted?
Does she think I lost a round and was back home?
