QUEEN CHRISELDA
“Thank the goddess for today’s game, my Queen. The performance from the damsels were more than what we expected,” Thelma said, following me towards the living room.
I hummed, agreeing with what she just said. “Indeed, it was more than what we expected. Way too much,” I said, taking my mind to the strange damsel with the pet wolf.
If not for her performance and the words of that lady, I would have eliminated her today. If my son is going to end up with the winner of this hunt, then the damsel must have a wolf, not a pet.
A true Luna must be able to summon her beast, and that maiden can’t. “I bet she won’t last long,” I said, scoffing out.
“Are you referring to the wolfless maiden from the arena?” Thelma asked, looking at me as we gradually drew closer to the living room.
“Yes, that weak omega,” I answered.
“Do you know what is funny, my Queen? That weakling was afraid to step out and fight when it was her turn. I was the one who pushed her out, and yet, she ended up stealing the show by defeating her opponent.” Thelma chuckled, swaying her head.
“These damsels are full of surprises. Both the weak and the strong. We have them all.”
“Whatever, Thelma. All I know is that Allen will marry the winner of this hunt. She has to be a strong girl, one who will obey my orders and pass every obstacle I…”
“GET OUT!!” A familiar voice roared from the living room, causing my heart to skip.
I recognize that voice anywhere. It’s my son’s.
“Allen?” I called, rushing into the chamber with Thelma, only to find Allen shouting at three maids in rage.
The ladies had their heads bowed, listening to my son’s harsh words, as he called them useless. “I don’t want to see you anywhere near this mansion. You are fired!” he yelled, shocking the maids.
This marveled me at once. “What’s their crime, Son? What have they done?” I asked, drawing nearer him.
He didn’t give any response but sat down on the couch, puffing in rage. I looked at the maids and questioned them, demanding to know what they did to annoy my son.
But to my surprise… “We didn’t do anything, my Queen,” one responded in tears.
“We don’t know why he’s angry.”
“Please don’t fire us, Please Alpha.” They pleaded with sadness in their eyes, begging Allen for forgiveness.
I directed my gaze at Thelma, waiting for her response. My sorceress flashed her yellow eyes at the girls and said to me, “They are telling the truth.”
That feedback confirmed my hunch.
Looking at my son, who sat there in anger, I said to the maids, “You can leave. And don’t worry, no one is getting fired.”
“Thank you, my Queen,” they bowed, leaving at once.
Thelma also stepped out of the room, leaving Allen and I alone to talk.
Sitting beside my son, I asked, “Why did you have to attack those poor girls, son? Don’t think I don’t know why you’re mad, because I do. You know your issue is with me, not them.”
“Stop it Mom! Just stop it!” he sparked, rising to his feet.
His behaviour startled me, as I gazed at my son, who faced me, yelling out.
“How many times did I beg you not to carry out this hunt or look for a mate for me?! I am an Alpha, and If the goddess says I’ll have a Luna, then I will! But you went ahead despite my words, embarrassing me before my people! They will think their Alpha can’t sense his mate. They’ll think I’m weak!”
“Don’t say that, Allen!” I got to my feet, grabbing his arm. “No one thinks of you that way. I am your mother and I am doing what is best for you, by finding you a wife! Do you think I don’t care about you? I do!”
He pulled his arm away, turning his back at me.
I sighed at his behaviour, gently placing my hand on his shoulder, saying, “Allen, I’m not getting any younger and you are taking time in giving me a grandchild. I decided to make things easy by getting all the maidens of Wolf Fall to take part in this hunt, so you can find your Queen. Look…”
I turned him over, cupping his face. “The one who emerges victorious will be your queen. She’s going to be a strong and obedient Luna.”
“And what if I don’t like her?” he asked, carefully lowering my hands down. “What if the goddess finds her unfit? What if we fail to bond as you want? Then what, mother?”
“Then… Then…” I stammered, having no answer.
“Doesn’t that make this hunt useless?” he lifted his brow.
Although I found that statement unacceptable, I still held myself together and found an answer. Smiling at my son, I said, “Alright then, let’s do it this way. If you end up finding the woman of your dreams, I promise to end this hunt and marry you two. Is that fine?”
He didn’t respond quickly but eventually gave an answer. “Fine.”
“Thank you, Son. Now go and get yourself ready for dinner,” I said, escorting him out when the Gamma came in, bowing at our feet.
“Dave,” my son called, drawing closer to him. “What’s the report?” he asked.
Dave, the Gamma, he’s the head of Wolf Fall’s army, protecting and alerting the pack of any danger.
Last night, there was an alert on the sighting of a notorious rogue we’ve been hunting down for long. And by we, I mean myself and Thelma.
My son sees this rogue as one who works for our enemies, but I see that beast as my ticket to something important.
“We have searched the forest, but he’s gone. Also last night, the guards discovered they were two and not one.”
“Two?” my ears sprang at what the Gamma said.
“So, he wasn’t alone? Those fools sent more spies to Wolf fall? Damn them!” Allen groaned.
I carefully patted my son, assuring him that we would get them. “And this time, we’ll be prepared. Don’t worry,” I said.
He managed to calm his mood, exiting the living room with his Gamma, as he planned to place more guards around the pack.
As soon as he left, my motherly affection vanished, replaced by my desperation.
“Two? Did that rogue come with a friend?” I pondered on, pacing about.
“I was surprised when I heard the Gamma mention two,” Thelma’s voice came in.
I looked towards the door and met her standing there, meaning she never left but stood close by.
“That means my suspicion was right,” she said, stepping into the room, and shutting the door close. “The Dark Blood Rogue is back again for the fifth time this week. Before last night’s chase, I had placed a spell in-between Wolf Fall and Werecats valley, to trap the beast when he crosses it. But there was no trigger, meaning…”
“Meaning he never left. He’s here in Wolf fall,” I completed, realizing something shocking.
Thelma, who grinned at my understanding, said, “That could only mean one thing, my Queen.”
I could feel my whole body vibrating at this discovery.
“The Spirit wolf,” I uttered, having a flash of the being.
That purple glorious spirit wolf and it’s magical feet that leaves behind light in the darkness. The purity of that spirit is something… something I cannot stand!
“That Dark Blood Rogue is here for the Spirit wolf. That means he has been here in our pack for so long, and we didn’t know.”
“I knew that spirit never disappeared that night, and that Rogue knew all along, that’s why he’s here. The darkness can’t stay away from his light. You and I know that well, Chriselda,” Thelma said, chuckling devilishly.
This was beginning to stress me. After all these years, that spirit is back.
I don’t know if I want to scream or break something apart. But I do know one thing that would calm my mood, and that’s finding the Spirit wolf before that rogue gets to it.
“Don’t worry, my Queen. Very soon we’ll get our hands on that spirit, and when we do, you’ll possess its powers and be the most powerful Werewolf Queen to ever walk this earth,” Thelma said, bowing at me.
“Yes, the most powerful. That power shall be mine. It belongs to me,” I nodded, gently crossing my arms across my chest, with a grin spreading across my face.
It’s all I’ve ever wanted for years, and this time around, I shall have it.
