“Tell me, Miss Jane. When did you catch her staring at me?” Tony asked with a wide grin, his eyes holding curiosity in them.
“W… What?” Jane asked, taken aback by his sudden question. It was the last question she expected from her boss and to think that there was a cheesy grin on his face!
“When did you catch Miss Arnold staring at me? You just said that you and some other nurses have caught her staring at me on various occasions. I’d like to know when you saw that happen.” Tony resounded his question.
“Don’t worry, Miss Jane. This isn’t a question to be scared of.” He clarified when he saw the terrified look on her face.
“Oh,” Jane sighed and nodded calmly. “It happens whenever you walk by or during the briefings with the other doctors. She barely listens and stares at you.” She reported that she thought Tony would take action against Lily and stop it from recurring.
A smile formed on her face as she thought things were going in her favor. What she didn’t know was that the only reason Tony was asking was because he wanted to be sure of Lily’s feelings for him and if she stared at him while he wasn’t looking, it must mean that she had strong feelings for him.
“I know that you have nothing with her, Dr Martinez but, because of that girl, everyone thinks you like her. I think you should make her stop before it ruins your reputation.” Jane advised, the volume of her voice increasing as she spoke.
Tony immediately removed the smile from his face and glared at her. It was now clear to him that she was misunderstanding things, and he wasn’t having it. He wasn’t going to stand for anyone talking bad about Lily. Not when he was the one chasing her and hoping that she would one day fall in love with him.
“That’s enough, Miss Jane. I don’t recall asking you for advice.” He said with a harsh glare and the smile on Jane’s face immediately faded.
“That will be all, Miss Jane. But, before you go, i would like you to know that the next time you bully or harass anyone in this hospital, that will be your last day here. Am I clear, Miss Jane?” He warned and she nodded immediately.
“Y… yes, Dr Martinez. It won’t happen again.” She assured him and hurried out of his office, relieved that she could still keep her job.
A few minutes after the door to Tony’s office closed, it opened again, but this time around, It was Dr Raph walking in with a curious look on his face.
“Why did I just see one of the nurses run out of your office like she had just seen a ghost?” Dr Raph asked as he made himself comfortable in the visitor’s seat.
“Nothing much. I just gave her a warning.” Tony hummed, shrugging nonchalantly.
Dr Raph drew his eyes at his friend, sensing that there was more to the topic than what Tony was letting on.
“Tell me, man. Is she one of the nurses throwing herself at you? I wouldn’t be surprised if she is. There’s something about you that makes these ladies want to strip for you.” Dr Raph teased, laughing loudly while Tony twisted his face in disgust.
“What?! No! What the fuck, mam? That was ages ago! None of the nurses would dare to do that now.” Tony replied, shaking his head to get rid of the memory.
A few years ago, he sat in his office, going over some of the patient lists when one of his nurses walked in and stripped herself naked before him, begging him to sleep with her. Tony was more shocked at her behavior than disgusted that it took him a few minutes to understand what was going on. When he finally got back to his senses, he had her fired and made a sound warning to the others not to try anything of that sort if they cherished their jobs.
That memory still haunts him to this day.
“Oh well,” Dr Raph cleared his throat and adjusted his coat. “Did you hear about the killing that happened a few minutes ago? The ER doctors are about to get busy.” He revealed, shaking his head sadly.
“Killing? Where?” Tony asked, as he hadn’t heard about this.
“I heard there was a gang shootout fifteen minutes from here. A lot of innocent people were injured but, none of the gang members were caught or even injured.” DR Raph answered and shook his head in disbelief.
“What gang was involved in the shootout?” Tony asked, hoping it wasn’t what he was thinking.
“Snakers.” As soon as the word left Dr Raph’s mouth, Tony groaned loudly. It was the name he hated so much.
“Why do you sound like that? Everyone in Paris knows that the Snakers are the most gruesome gang ever. You shouldn’t be surprised to hear that they are behind the killing.” Dr Raph said when he saw the sour look on Tony’s face.
Tony stared at his friend for a few seconds, wondering if it would be wise to tell him about the information he had on the gang. After giving it much thought, he decided to tell him, as it would be helpful to have someone else on the team.
“I am not surprised by the killings, Raph. I am just angry with myself for not being able to stop them before this happened.” Tony revealed, his heart full of pain.
Upon hearing this, Dr Raph’s brows creased in confusion as he wondered why Tony was blaming himself for the shootout when he had no connection with them.
“Have you gone crazy, man? Why would you try to stop them? You’re not a fucking policeman and, it’s not like you have any intel on them.” Dr Raph said, chuckling dryly but, Tony continued to stare at him with a stern expression and Dr Raph felt his heart skip as he thought of the possibility of his friend being entangled with a gang like Snakers.
“You do not have a connection with them, right?” Dr Raph asked, drawing his eyes at Tony.
Tony gave a small smile and nodded his head slowly. “Apparently, i do.” He admitted and Dr Raph’s eyes flew open, and his jaw dropped to the ground.
“What the fuck, man?!” He yelled. “How did that happen? Why on earth do you even have a connection with them?” Dr Raph’s hands flew into the air and worry filled him.
“Tell me. What is this connection you have?” He asked and Tony sighed before confessing.
“Lily. She is the connection I have with them. Her ex-boyfriend is a member of the gang.”
