June felt an inexplicable amount of pain flood her system. Everything seemed to be going wrong in her body.
The searing pain was so much, she contemplated letting go and entering the world beyond.
Just as she was about to close her eyes, she heard Rafael’s distinct voice.
“I said enough!” The voice roared and suddenly everything changed.
June looked up from the ground, her body shaking from the impact of her forceful transformation.
Was she hearing things now?
“Rafael?” she wondered, convinced she was losing her mind from pain.
Unbeknownst to the others who lay on the training grounds, a third personality had taken over the body of their beloved Alpha.
“Ease.” Zeus said with his eyes now a shade of brown.
June felt her body relax at his command. Alongside the others who slowly transformed to their Human state after the atmosphere became lighter.
Zeus rushed to June with concerned eyes. “Are you alright?” He knelt before her and June’s eyes struggled to remain open.
Her tiredness was clear to all and sundry.
“Quick! Take her to the hospital!” Georgina who watched the interaction said from the crowd. “The atmosphere must have strained her poor self.”
Rafael acted with the speed of wind. In seconds, June was carried bridal style to the pack doctor for the second time in the week.
“What went wrong?” the doctor asked as he looked her over.
“She was exerted by the Alpha.” Rafael said with a serious look on his face. The others stared at him like he had lost his mind.
Was that his way of taking responsibility for his actions? Why did he speak like he wasn’t the culprit?
“Please make sure everything is alright.” Rafael pressed.
That darned Zeus and his stubborn Alpha wolf were attempting to eliminate his chances of returning to his family. He was going to do things his way from now on.
Rafael felt Zeus’ rage rush through him.
“How dare you? His dare you steal my body?!” Zeus gritted.
“How dare you insult my person?!” His alpha wolf puffed.
Rafael was not concerned about the two large personalities he had to share this body with. He had been living quietly behind the scenes all along.
It was their turn to experience what it was like to be a figment of their imagination, to be alive but unheard. Rafael was determined to maintain his control until he completed his mission.
He didn’t have time to waste!
“Her body was strained.” The doctor gave his verdict after assessment. “She will be fine with enough rest.”
Rafael let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you.”
The doctor who knew Zeus as a young child in the Blood Race pack was shocked.
Did he have a hearing deficiency or did the Alpha just thanked him after a consultation?
The doctor looked around and his nurses held the same impression. They were all used to the Alpha’s rudeness and dominance, so seeing him act so polite was unusual.
Rafael did not care about the expressions on their faces; he was too preoccupied with devising the best strategy to save Augusta’s life.
While he was locked in the mind of Alpha Zeus and his wolf, he studied the thought patterns of the wolf and its human.
Zeus was a melancholic personality who dabbled between psychopath and strange depending on his mood.
He understood how difficult it would be to prevent Zeus from killing Augusta and many others, as Zeus killed without hesitation.
Rafael had witnessed him murder an entire pack solely to prevent them from plotting a coup against his pack.
A pack he built from killing off multiple Alpha’s and forcing them to submit or be killed. Rafael had scanned Zeus’ memory, which was filled with nothing but cruelty and grotesque chaos.
If he did not know better, he would believe Zeus deserved to be killed in the most cruel way possible, but he did everything for a reason.
Zeus was born into a family that rejected him for his nature. Called him an abomination and sought to kill him after denying his birthright.
Although Zeus left the Blood Race pack many years ago to live in the wild, a lot of Alphas thought him a threat and sent troops to find and kill him.
Time after time, Zeus was made to fight for his life , barely escaping death while he mastered his powers. One of the days he met a witch who helped him hone his skills only to have her killed while he ran away like a coward.
Zeus made up his mind to become the hunter right away. He had been haunted for far too long, and when the young witch was killed, he promised to kill anyone who stood in his way and protect everything that was important to him.
He eventually rose to become the NightShade pack’s feared and notorious self-made Alpha. Establishing himself as a tyrant and ruler.
Despite his achievements, Rafael could tell that he was still afraid. Following Rafael’s near-death experience, Zeus secretly investigated how a lethal poison that impaired his abilities and stopped his heart had gotten into his drink.
Rafael planned to get to the bottom of things but he needed to ensure that his ticket to a second chance was secured.
After spending weeks doing nothing but follow Zeus and trying to stop him from making any wrong choices it was finally his turn.
The time spent in Zeus’ head was not in vain because he had discovered the single way of making sure his Augusta was protected.
Wolves tended to be overly protective of their mates. Including Zeus’s alpha wolf. One of the things that strained the duo’s ironclad relationship was Zeus’ hatred of the concept of having a mate and his wolf’s reverence for it.
As things stood, the only person Zeus was incapable of harming was his mate. Rafael was there to make that happen.
Rafael carried Augusta to her quarters and laid her on the bed. The doctor predicted she would be asleep for a long period to regain her strength.
The exercise weakened her life force and even the famous werewolf blood couldn’t hasten the process. That just gave Rafael ample time to connect them together and finish his task.
“Don’t you dare..” Rafael heard the dangerous grit of Zeus who expressed his discontent. “I will not be mated to a weakling, talk less of someone who might be another plan to take me out.”
“You have my support!” Zeus Alpha wolf grunted in approval.
That was all the motivation Rafael needed to carry out his plot.
