Zeus carried June out of the training grounds with flickering red eyes.
They got to the Nightshade pack hospital and everyone made way for the alpha who seemed like he was seconds away from murdering an entire pack.
“Drop her on the bed.” the doctor spoke respectfully.
Zeus placed June in the hospital bed but remained by her side. The nurses wanted to carry out their duties, but seeing Zeus with reddened eyes made them fearful and tremble.
The doctor knew the alpha couldn’t be reasoned with. Instead, he tried to maneuver his way around June.
He brought a syringe filled with werewolf blood and Zeus growled. The doctor near darned lost his balance.
“I am sorry but we can’t operate with you in the room sir.” the doctor finally said, hoping his head didn’t end up on the floor.
Zeus advanced towards the doctor with a deadly expression. His eyes now flickering between red and black. June reached for his arm.
With two broken ribs, a possibly broken nose and some other fractures in her body frame work , the last thing she needed was him huffing and puffing around.
Zeus’ eyes cleared as soon as she held his arm. He was so caught up in his anger and didn’t realise the more he remained in the room, the longer it took before she was relieved.
“Take my blood.” Zeus stretched his arm. “It will quicken the process.” he said and the doctor shrugged.
Zeus didn’t blink as the syringe was injected into his arm. Soon enough Zeus was seated outside the room, waiting for the doctor to do his job.
Twenty minutes later , the doctor came out of the room with a nurse behind him who scurried away upon sighting the Alpha.
“The young lady is fine. Your blood did the magic. I was originally concerned that the blood wouldn’t fit but it managed to fit just right.” the doctor remarked.
“Is she awake?” Zeus asked , ready to charge into the room.
The doctor stopped him. “I have some things you need to know about the young lady.”
That caught Zeus attention. “Spill.”
The doctor shook his head. “Not here.”
Zeus raised his brows in question but when the doctor didn’t speak, he followed him to the office.
“What is wrong?” he asked as soon as he entered the office.
“The young lady.” the doctor started. “She has a being living inside her.”
Zeus’ eyes widened but he covered it up. “What are you trying to say?”
“We nearly lost her when I infused your blood into her system.” Zeus was eerily silent. “Her body convulsed. It seemed like there was something resisting your blood in her system. ”
“I was able to neutralise its effects by giving her wolfsbane, which shut down her system and allowed your blood to flow, but I have a strong suspicion that there is something about her that we do not know.”
“She doesn’t have a wolf.” Zeus stated. “Her werewolf genes are dormant and she is pathetically weak.”
“What I felt there was not weak.” The doctor was firm in his words. “I think she might be hiding something. There is no way she is unaware of the beast that lives inside her.”
“What beast?” Zeus wore a calculative look.
“I don’t know what it is.” he said “It was gone before I could make a proper assessment.”
Zeus fought the urge to roll his eyes at the doctor. His words could be deemed baseless with the little to no information he rendered.
As though noting the Alpha’s thoughts, the doctor remarked. “One thing is certain. whatever lives in her came out when we transfused your blood into her veins.”
“It also changed the colour of her eyes.” the doctor added after much thought.
“What colour?”
“White. A bright white colour with golden iris.”
Zeus swallowed at the doctor’s words. He had only heard of a legend involving a wolf with white orbs.
He shook off the thought. It couldn’t be. He couldn’t let himself think of the possibility… She was too weak.
There had to be a misconception somewhere. He thought. “Don’t speak carelessly. ” Zeus warned. “She can’t even hold her own in a fight.”
The doctor nodded but it was obvious he wasn’t convinced. “Maybe we should ask her some questions. Find out if she had interactions with her wolf or felt its presence recently.”
The doctor suggested. “We can never be too careful.”
Zeus agreed.
After the meeting, Zeus left the hospital for some work. June was deep asleep and though he was curious and itchy to get answers, he went to his office.
Meanwhile, Tara visited the hospital in search of Augusta. She made sure to leave the pack grounds after instigating the situation early in the day.
Tara spent the day working at the northern borders, and when she heard about the events, she was relieved not to be a part of the drama.
Betsy was no longer alive, and no one could trace the hiccup back to Tara. She was extremely disappointed to see that the rumours she had spread about Augusta’s relationship with the alpha were fading by the minute.
A new wave of fear swept through the pack, and no one discussed anything about the day’s events in public.
No one wanted to lose their lives in such a cruel manner. Betsy’s death was a lesson well understood. It was foolish to go through that path.
“You are all set to leave,” The doctor informed June who felt amazing.
Her body appeared to have recovered completely and then some. This occurred every time she received a dose of their werewolf blood.
It would be ideal if she could have it ready to use during her training.
“Thank you, doctor.”
June was seated in the hospital bed when Tara walked in. Her smile disappeared at the sight of Tara.
“I see you are ready to leave.” Tara remarked. “Let me escort you.” she offered with a smile June deemed fake.
“That will be great. I was hoping to get the bodyguards to walk her back to her quarter but it’s beautiful you are here.” the doctor said before June could refuse.
“The Alpha also instructed we report to him as soon as she is awake-”
“I’ll stop by and inform him on my way. ” Tara said before the doctor could finish.
A fond smile. “Thank you, Tara!” The doctor signed off some documents and turned to June. “Please take care of yourself.” he said , “and remember what we spoke about.”
June nodded in agreement. The doctor encouraged her to return to the hospital if she noticed anything out of the ordinary.
This he said after asking her a series of strange questions she couldn’t be bothered to remember. Tara led the way out of the hospital.
They walked in silence until Tara stopped in front of June. “How do you feel?” she suddenly asked with a faux smile. “I heard the Alpha killed Betsy for training you.”
June refused to humour her. She made to leave but Tara dragged her back by the arm. “Let go.” June said, shaking with anger. “I have no time for your nonsense.”
Tara was surprised by June’s outburst. she held her tighter. “You have grown wings. I guess that’s what happens when alpha kills his loyal subject for hurting a hair on your head.”
June pulled her arm from her hold and Tara smiled. “You must feel special. Strong. I could kill you without a moment’s thought.”
“Be my guest.” Tara was shocked by her smile. June was done trying to play nice. Henceforth she would steal a page out of April Rivera’s Villainy handbook.
One thing she learned from years of trying to trap that slippery sister of hers was that you had to be the bigger Villain to beat a villian.
Talia covered up her shock with a smirk.
“I’d watch my back if I were you.” she tutted. “Nothing unites the nightshade pack more than loss.”
“You might have Zeus to yourself but what’s that compared to the entire community of werewolves who watched their own get killed for someone so insignificant?”
June felt her heart skip a beat but refused to give Tara the satisfaction of seeing her squirm. “Let me worry about that.”
