Chapter 152 – Such a heart should not exist

Book:The Rejected Ex-Wife Published:2025-2-8

June trained with one of the guards assigned to her for some days.
Zeus embarked on a journey and was yet to return. One morning, she arrived at the training ground, ready to begin the day’s training but the guard was nowhere to be found.
June decided to get some work done while she awaited the presence of her trainer until Tara showed up. “You have made little progress since the last time we met.”
June got up from her plank, breathing heavily. “Hello, Tara.”
“I don’t recall telling you my name.” Tara snapped with a frown. “You might be a bit stronger but compared to the weakest wolf in this pack, you are still pathetic.”
June cleared her throat. “I am still a learner who is dedicated to bettering my skills,”
“You are doing a poor job at it,” Tara remarked. At this point, June felt like she had come to put her down. “The Alpha has been on a trip for the past few days. You must miss him.”
June kept her silence. An act that seemed to grieve Tara. “Nevertheless, the guard who was assigned to train you until the Alpha’s return is busy.”
“Not to worry. I have the perfect replacement for him.” Before June could speak, Tara snapped her fingers and a lady walked towards them.
“This is Betsy.” She remarked. “She will be in charge of your training today,” Betsy and Tara exchanged knowing looks before she continued. “She is in charge of the younglings of the pack. I believe she is the right fit for someone at your level, if not better.”
“Thank you for your kindness, but I can train on my own for today,” June said with a straight face,
“Don’t be brash.” Tara scolded, “You should treat this as an opportunity to better your skills as a weakling. The Alpha won’t always be there to support or save you.”
Before June could retort, Betsy began her training. “Your legs are weak.” She remarked with a frown. “You should run some laps.”
June stood for a minute, and Tara’s eyes dared her to do otherwise. She could also feel the gazes of others on the training ground. It seemed like they had racked up an audience.
“We don’t have all day.” Betsy gritted, “The earlier we begin, the sooner we finish.”
June swallowed her pride. Despite the insulting words, she decided to be the bigger person. She sprang into a sprint and ran two rounds in the field. Betsy looked her over and ordered.
“Two more laps!”
June dutifully adhered to her instructions, painstakingly going through the entire field until her legs shook from the impact of her run. However, as soon as she returned, Betsy sent her to another round.
“Three more laps!”
June remained in her spot, breathing heavily and sweating profusely.
“Did you not hear me? Have you gone deaf?” Betsy asked, stalking her with a dominant expression.
“I can’t…” June said plainly.
That seemed to aggravate the situation. “You can’t or you won’t?”
“How do you intend to grow if you don’t work hard and listen to instructions?” Betsy stood in front of June with a sick smile. “Is this how you act? Seduce the males into giving you easy tasks?”
June swallowed. “I do not appreciate how you speak to me.”
“Shut up!” Betsy pushed her by the shoulders, “Do you want to fight? Do you think you can fight me?” She pushed her again. “Since you are so strong and smart, why don’t you attack me?”
June didn’t move an inch.
Betsy pushed her once again and she staggered. “Come on, loser. Fight me.” She urged. “I heard you spent nights training with the Alpha. It’ll be a shame to disappoint him now.”
“Don’t tell me you were trying to seduce our Alpha.” She seethed and June had it.
“I don’t want to fight you.”
Betsy laughed in her face and pushed her again. She nearly lost her balance. “You speak like you can do something other than open your dirty legs for any willing-”
June shut her up with a punch in the face. The punch was weak for someone who has trained for most of her life but insulting nonetheless.
“You started it.” Betsy moved like the wind, and with calculated moves, she sent June to the ground with a series of punches. “Come on, slut. Don’t be so pathetic. Show me what you’ve got.”
June stood up from the ground with shaky knees and a bloody nose. Betsy sent her down with a spin kick before she could properly stand up.
“The Alpha would be disappointed if he saw you.” Betsy sneered, “Did you only think about seducing him all through the training? Have you learned nothing?!”
June received a series of kicks in the stomach from Betsy. The last one broke a rib. “The best way to train sluts like you is by giving them a good beating.” Betsy placed her feet on June’s Face, putting her weight on her. “Maybe you could learn a thing or two.”
Unknown to her, Zeus had returned from his trip and went straight to the training ground per usual. By now, a little crowd formed a circle around the women as they watched the peculiar training.
Secret smiles were shared by some females who heard the news of how the weak lady had taken on a mission to seduce their Alpha. Regardless of Zeus’ cruel nature, they all secretly longed to be his bride.
For many years, none of the females had access to the Alpha, and he showed a general disinterest in the situation. Who was this lady to suddenly show up and take all his attention?
Although most of them didn’t agree with the bullying, they didn’t fight against it either. While June was beaten to a pulp, they all watched her, weak and helplessly trying to preserve her dignity but attempting to fight back.
The key word is attempt because she failed woefully at every turn. Zeus stepped into the training ground and as a result of the ongoing situation, no one sensed him.
He stayed behind the crowd and watched with a frown until June spat out blood. The atmosphere suddenly turned dark as the skies turned a dark shade of red.
The wind became hot and soon, everyone was looking up, wondering what was wrong with the weather. It took them all a moment before a voice came from the crowd, shaking with fear.
“A-Alp-pha?”
The crowd dispersed at the mention of Zeus’ name. Betsy remained in the middle, kicking June with a smile as she enjoyed herself. Unknown to her, Zeus was in the area, watching her with blazing eyes.
With every kick, the air grew hotter. It felt like the sun had descended to the earth with the amount of heat she felt. “Darn.” Betsy fanned herself with her hands. “Is it just me or is it unusually hot today?”
Everyone gulped. Unable to inform her of the pending danger to her life. Betsy was shocked when she noticed the unusual redness of the sky. Only then did she notice Zeus’ presence.
Her breath seized when she saw Zeus, standing in a black overall with a cruel smile. “A-Alpha…” It was her turn to be scared.
“Don’t let me stop you,” Zeus remarked with his arms behind him. “I was enjoying the overt display of strength.”
Betsy fell to her knees. The ground was so hot, she stood up immediately with her eyes widened. How was June able to remain on the floor all this while? She wondered.
“It was just training!” Betsy excused, falling to the hot ground once again. “I promise, I was only training her!”
Zeus smirked. “Indeed.” He released his hands and his eyes turned a fiery red colour. “Let’s see how you do against me, shall we?”
Betsy shook her head fearfully. “No!” She fell to the hot ground. “Forgive me, Alpha! I have acted foolishly.”
“If sorry fixed everything, then there would be no rules or consequences.” Zeus stepped forward with his flaming red eyes and Betsy screamed.
“Please Alpha! Forgive me! AArgh!”
The others watched in shock as Betsy turned around the ground like someone on fire. June watched the situation with deep breaths. Silence filled the camp, safe for Betsy’s screams.
They all knew what was happening. They had seen this enough to know it was the Alpha’s gift at work. Zeus was known for his ability to manipulate things, elements and people with his gifts.
This time around it was clear what was going on. Betsy’s blood was getting dried. This was the worst punishment they had seen. The last time they saw this at work was during a war with some rogues who thought to overthrow Zeus.
He made a show of them and publicly dried the blood of the Rogue king and hung his dead body at the borders as a deterrent to others. They left him to rot in a stake – A testament to Zeus’ madness when provoked.
“Please…” Betsy could hardly speak. All her blood was dried now and her heart slowed. Zeus showed no mercy.
“This will serve as a lesson to everyone.” He said with his eyes aflame. The entire camp shook with fear. “I will not hesitate to do this, and worst to anyone who thinks of hurting my guest.” He balled his hands into a fist, and Betsy’s eyes widened in pain. “Is that clear?”
“Yes, Alpha!” They chorused, fear tangible in the air, so much so it could be tasted.
“You have a cruel heart.” Zeus said, “Such a heart should not exist.”
A flame erupted from Betsy’s heart and that marked the end of her life. Zeus burned her heart to crisp, alongside her entire body. Betsy was reduced to a pile of dust in minutes.
Everyone watched in shock, fear palpable in the air until June coughed. Zeus walked towards her with his red eyes and picked her up on the ground. “Get the doctor at once!”
