“Leave my pack, Zeus.” Alpha Darren said with his jaws tight. “Do not test me.”
“Is she your wife? The Luna of the Blood Race pack?” Zeus asked with his jaws tight.
Darren felt insulted. “I can never have such an incompetent mate. She is merely a servant who should not be here.”
June could sense the threat in his words. Alpha Darren was asking her to leave. She didn’t need a soothsayer to know that.
His intense eyes and glares sent towards her was enough proof. Zeus wore a sinful smirk that left June confused.
“She’s mine.” Zeus declared, few meters away from her. “What is your name?”
“She is not up for grabs, Zeus.” Darren gritted. “Leave.”
The atmosphere suddenly turned hot. The cool bright sky suddenly turned a shade of fiery red and the air was so hot, everyone shook in fear.
“She is mine.” Zeus said again, annunciating every word and daring anyone to go against his words.
Alpha Zeus was the mad Alpha of the Nightshade pack. Half brother of Alpha Darren and the only fire elemental to have crossed the earth.
He was ruthless and feared across the werewolf community not only for his power but because of his ability to burn an entire race with the force of his mind.
When the Alpha king impregnated the enchantress of the West in a one night stand, Zeus was born as the first born son and hybrid to have crossed the world.
His fire elemental, choleric mood and ruthlessness spread abroad when he took over the entire werewolf community, leaving out his father’s pack after getting rejected as the Alpha king.
Over the years, he was able to raise his own pack which were majorly from the packs he took over, making a joke of his brother, a supposed alpha king.
“She is a member of my pack. Not a pawn to your sick games.” Darren gritted breathing heavily as his wolf threatened to take over from the disrespect.
Augusta belonged to him. She was his to do as he pleased. Nothing would get in the middle of that. Not even his psycho brother.
Zeus smiled. “Since you are so generous and kind, why don’t the lady speak for herself.”
The attention suddenly shifted to June.
“What will it be, little one? Would you be his servant or mine?” Zeus asked.
Darren scoffed. “She is not the owner of her life. I bought her!”
Zeus tsked. “Too bad. She’s mine now.”
Darren growled, and his claws elongated. His eyes shifted to a feral black with a slice of white and his fangs protruded.
He was close to shifting into his werewolf form. Zeus laughed at his little brother’s shenanigans.
Darren took his throne. If he couldn’t give up this lady, he had another thing coming.
June shook in her knees. Half smitten by Zeus’s smile and half scared to the bones. The sky was a fiery red color.
It seemed like hailstones would soon come pouring. Zeus seemed so unbothered by the angry skies while other servants looked like they were seconds from pissing their pants.
“What will it be little one?” Zeus asked again, this time, there was a ball of fire on his fingertips.
“Reject him.” June heard a voice whisper in her subconscious. It was Angus.
Somewhere between the chaos, Augusta’s wolf woke up and watched the drama through her eyes.
She could feel the feral beast’s presence much more than ever. How did Augusta ever believe she didn’t have a wolf?
“Reject him now!” The voice said again, this time, she felt a power surge that forced her mouth open as the words went out from her mouth.
“I, Augusta Monroe, reject you, Alpha Darren Moore as my mate.”
Zeus smiled and his eyes turned a darker shade of red. “Good girl.”
A dark voice whispered into her mind and June felt her body tingle with foreign emotions, she couldn’t understand.
Angus purred within her, like she had found something precious. While all of these happened, June remained confused and watched as fire fell from the sky, destroying a major part of the Alpha’s house.
Darren shifted into a large black wolf with a killer instinct. Zeus watched him with mocking eyes.
Darren wolf was seconds away from ripping Zeus’s head off when he heard a piercing scream. It was his chosen mate.
Zeus set her on fire!
In a twinkle of an eye, Darren returned to his human form and rushed to his mate.
“Stop it!” He growled when the fire increased.
Zeus remained in front of June, forming a shield that protected them from the fire.
“It’s in my blood,” Darren’s chosen mate said, “My blood is on fire!”
Zeus smiled. “That will teach you never to test me.”
“Take her! Take her and leave my Luna!” Darren begged.
June oddly felt satisfied seeing him squirm. After all the ill treatments meted out to the original owner of this body, he deserved everything cruel.
“Just a little more.” Zeus said, more shrill screams escaped Darren’s mate.
“Please!” Darren yelled, shaking as his mate got burnt before his eyes.
“I am yet to leave my special signature.” Zeus tutted, then turned towards June. “Are you ready to pledge your allegiance to the Nightshade pack?”
June was startled by his word. Nightshade pack. The words of the system returned to her.
“Save the Alpha of the Nightshade pack.” The words repeated in her head like a mantra.
“Who are you?” She said slowly, eyes wide and expectant.
“Forgive my manners.” Zeus smiled. It was frightening with his fiery red orbs. “I am Zeus, Alpha of the Nightshade pack.”
June hardly thought this man needed saving. In fact, it seemed like everyone else needed to be saved from his hands!
“Submit to me.” He snarled, and a wave of dominance sent June to her knees.
“I submit.” A small voice came out of her throat. It wasn’t hers. It was her wolf’s. “Get me out of here.” It demanded.
In that moment, June felt like her powers were taken from her. It seemed like her wits were rescinded and the beastly side of her was in control of her every move.
Her eyes were purely white and her body shook from the power surge that threatened to break free.
Zeus triggered something inside her when he snarled, revealing a wolfish grin. “Your wish is my command.”
Meanwhile, in South City, the news of June and Rafael’s accident took up the most trending spots in the media.
“We tried our best to rescue the situation. However, the victims experienced severe injuries which damaged the brain and other parts of the body.”
“The two victims have been placed on a comatose state to enable them heal. However, their chances of returning from the deep end with everything intact is slim.”
“The South City hospital will do their best to make sure that they get adequate health care to foster a better recovery and cover the bills.
“Please pray for us in these trying times.”
The South City hospital held a press conference regarding the accident that sent two most prominent members of the society to a coma.
Mrs Evelyn hasn’t stopped crying since she heard the doctors words. Her daughter. Her sweet and precious daughter was lying in a bed, unable to use her body.
She didn’t even know what to say. Ever since the incident, they hadn’t left the hospital. Mrs Evelyn lived in the hospital with her daughter and Rafael who were the victims of the accident.
The entire country mourned the incident and said prayers in their hearts for the victims of the South City hospital elevator incident.
Other than Evelyn, another person who was deeply affected by the news was little Luis. All attempts to hide it from the little one proved abortive.
Neither did Carson’s attempts to stop him from visiting the hospital work. Luis was forced to grow up quickly with the incident.
Everyday after school, he visited the hospital, and remained by his father’s side until it was time to leave. Carson supervised him and lived in Rafael’s house.
After the accident, he returned from his trip and took over taking care of Luis while Beatrice served her time in confinement.
Beatrice was a shadow of herself. With everyday spent in confinement, she longed for the day she would leave.
She wanted a start fresh with her son and family. She was even ready to accept June if that was what it took to get her son back.
Unknown to her, Rafael was in a critical condition. The parole officer was instructed to keep the news away from her and anytime she asked of the welfare of her family, she received static answers.
“Sharon’s final hearing is today.” Lucy informed Evelyn at the hospital. “I will be going with the lawyer.”
Evelyn nodded.
“You need to go home, mother.” Lucy said worriedly. “June would be unhappy to see you in this shape. I have faith she would return but in the mean time, we have to stay strong.”
Her words fell on deaf ears. Evelyn couldn’t imagine returning to a home without June. She was better off at the hospital.
It’s only been three days. There was still hope. Her daughter could wake up and she needed to be here when it happened.
