“Hello June Rivera. Welcome to the Afterlife. This is the Second Chance System. You guide in this new reality. You’ve been given a task to redeem yourself and live again.”
“Save the Alpha of Nightshade pack. If You succeed, you’ll earn a second chance at life. If you fail, you die. Your time starts now. Good luck.”
June woke up with a splash of cold water on her face. Her body was instantly soaked.
“Stupid, stupid girl! Get up this instant!” An elderly woman’s voice rang in the air. “The Alpha does not pay you to sleep your way through your days!”
June got up from the cold hard floor with confusion in her face. The first thing she noticed was her unusually thin body.
Her legs were so tiny, it seemed like she hadn’t eaten for days!
Come to think of it, she didn’t remember being so close to the floor. Neither did she remember having blonde fringe hair.
June stretched her arms, and was startled by the scars on her skin, alongside the dull pains that stung from it.
“What are you doing, Augusta?! Those floors won’t mop themselves!” The woman roared, and dragged her by the hair.
June yelped in pain as the woman dragged her out of the small cubicle that smelt like fish while dishing out orders.
“You have to clean the Alpha’s room today. Be a good servant and make sure that you clean up the residue of his mating ceremony.”
“The Luna specifically requested for you. Do not do anything stupid and act accordingly!”
In a matter of seconds, a dirty mop and bucket was plastered on June’s hands. “I will be waiting for you here.”
“Do not waste my time, Augusta!” The old woman said as she pushed her towards a hallway with a singular door at the end of it. “Go! Go!”
June limped towards the door in confusion. What was going on? How did she arrive here? Who was Augusta and why was she in this foreign body?! She arrived in front of the door filled with thought.
Before she could knock, the door flung open and she was dragged into the place by a male hand. Her mop fell to the floor as a result of the force exerted by the one behind the door.
She immediately stood before a bare chested man whose scent did terrible things between her legs. She had never felt so intensely attracted to a man before.
His scent filled the room and she basked in it for a while until she smelt something else.
The handsome broad chested man smirked at her and she suddenly felt repulsed by him. June felt a side of her rescind until she couldn’t feel a presence within her.
The only reminder of the presence was the faint dull pain in her chest.
She didn’t know this man but for some reason, the mere sight of him brought so great a pain she couldn’t comprehend. Something was wrong, and it appeared that the man before her knew something of it.
“Does your heart hurt?” The man asked in a snide voice. “Does it hurt your useless self that I mated with a woman deserving of me? Did you perceive the scent of my union with another woman?”
“If you had not been such a failure, maybe I would have kept you as a mistress.” He tutted. “Alas, you are not worthy of any position other than my slave, Augusta.”
Alpha Darren was the Alpha of the Blood Race pack. At the ripe age of 24, he took over the reins of power from his father and met Augusta the following year at the mating ceremony.
He had looked forward to meeting his mate his entire life. A woman that would make him stronger and pare strong pups who would in turn rule after him.
When he met Augusta, a wolfless, petite and poor slave girl at the mating ceremony, he was enraged at the moon goddess for giving him such a weakling.
Alpha Darren, who was desperate to meet his mate, immediately stormed out of the mating ceremony and the next day, Augusta was bought as a servant in the Alpha’s house.
Augusta Monroe was made to do menial jobs, and flat out abused by her own mate who made her clean up after his various sexcapades, hurting Augusta who was his true mate.
As though the ill treatments weren’t enough punishments, Darren also abused her time by time. For two years, she went through the harsh treatments until the last mating ceremony, when Darren went against the state of order and chose another woman as his mate.
Alas, as a punishment for refusing his true mate, he was given a curse which hindered him from procreating with his chosen mate, thereby, increasing the suffering of Augusta Monroe who was made to endure harsh realities dished out by her mate and his chosen.
“Since the moon goddess has refused to let me have children, I have no choice but to set off my anger on you.” Alpha Darren grabbed a fistfull of Augusta’s hair and held tight. “Maybe if you die, I will be free from this curse.”
June shook her head with alarm in her eyes. She was still figuring out this new reality. She couldn’t die just yet!
“Please-Please, don’t kill me..”
“How dare you speak? Haven’t I warned you about opening your filthy mouth to speak in my presence? You silly whore! You should get a good beating before you die!”
Alpha Darren pushed her to the bed and took out his belt. He wielded it as a whip, ready to flog her mercilessly when some knocks came from the door. The Alpha turned around with anger.
“Who is there?!”
“Alpha Darren!” June heard the lady’s voice from before. “Your presence is needed outside. It’s urgent!”
Alpha Darren? June tested the name in her mind. She had read web novels with characters who were referred to as Alpha. June winced as she tried to remember the reason they were called alpha’s.
Was it an honorarium? A king? An Alpha King?
“You are lucky. Do not think you have escaped from your punishment, wolfless whore.” He gritted. “Get to cleaning!”
June’s eyes widened as she heard the tag wolfless whore. Alpha’s were kings of wolves! Did she get teleported to a werewolf kingdom? She thought fearfully.
Just then, a voice said inside her subconscious. “Hello June. My name is Angus.” She was startled by the voice which spoke from within her.
Was she hearing things?
“I am your wolf. My better half is Augusta Monroe, whose body you inhabit. My human half tried to kill herself the night before, which forced me awake.” The voice said to her. “I am willing to work with you, as long as you help me deal with this thing.”
June was shocked at the voice, but she wasn’t scared.
“How did I get here?”
“The second chance system. In my world, the moon goddess has played a wildcard in our universe. I have faith that you would help Augusta return to a better life.”
June felt doused by the amount of information the wolf within her poured into her. It seemed like a gate of emotions and memories locked was unleashed and she relieved every single moment of Augusta Monrow’s life.
By the time she had gone through it all, she felt like she had aged a couple years and her anger for the young and reckless Alpha Darren was multiplied.
She was going to teach him a lesson about how to treat women. Mate or not.
With the ease of memories, June was able to function as Augusta Monroe. She finished cleaning up the proceeds from her mate’s sexcapades with his chosen one and proceeded to the servant’s quarters for other duties when she felt the presence of someone powerful in the environment.
Spurned by the power that expounded the house, June unconsciously moved towards the direction of the power house, she ended up in front of the Alpha house where a hostile atmosphere tightened between Alpha Darren and someone she couldn’t see.
“I heard you took a bride.” A voice said and she instantly felt tingles. “Is she as weak as I heard?”
“Zeus.” Alpha Darren spoke in warning. “We signed a treaty. You are in violation.”
“I only agreed not to burn your pack to the ground. I never said I couldn’t make timely visits or do whatever I please.” The other man gritted.
June watched with her breath in her throat, “What do you want?”
“Your head.” Zeus answered with a smirk. “But we can’t all get what we want, can we?”
“You are my half-brother but make no mistake, I will kill you if it comes down to us both.” Darren was done being diplomatic. This brother of his was getting on his nerves.
June could sense Darren’s fear from a mile away.
“Still quite the dreamer.” Zeus walked away and got into June’s line of sight. To say she was shocked was an understatement.
Zeus connected eyes with June and she could have sworn she saw his eyes widen a fraction before returning to shining grey orbs that took breath out of her lungs.
“What do you want?” Darren gritted and Zeus smirked.
His eyes never left June’s as he said, “Her.”
What’s more? Zeus has an uncanny resemblance to Rafael, safe for his long, flowing black hair and godlike aura.
June blinked in confusion as the atmosphere shifted between the two half brothers.
