REX’S POV
Rain shifted to her normal form back before I knew it as when I looked around, she was no longer there, neither was Kia and my mother.
She had gone with Sean like I asked her to despite refusing to follow him the first time.
I was also worried about my mother being with Kia but that was not the only thing that bothered me.
It was Rain.
She was acting so strange recently. Her body didn’t stay in it’s form for a long time. Rather she shifted back into her human form as quickly, almost as if she was too weak to be in the wolf form.
It was strange. I have never heard of something like this before that a wolf couldn’t stay in it’s form for sometime.
Well, I have heard of it but it only occurs in situations where the wolf in question was weak and sick.
Rain wasn’t weak, she was a lycan for crying out loud, how could she be weak?
The only thing I can consider now is the fact that she could be sick. This might actually be possible because she was locked up by Kia and Brook despite the fact that she just gave birth and who knows how they must have tortured her.
It must be the reason why she is suddenly acting so different.
But that was something I would discuss with her later once all this was over. I’ll ask her all the things they did to her and make sure to pay them back in kind but for now…
My eyes searched around the hall filled with some wounded people, blood plastered around the hall, and overthrown chairs before landing on someone who was also saying right back at me.
The guy called Alaric!
I felt my anger increasing as I saw him, the one who betrayed Rain’s trust and confidence. He deserves to die for what he caused Rain and suffer.
I took slow steps towards him and I could see the fear in his eyes as I got closer.
So he was afraid huh? He was afraid of death and yet he willing betrayed the trust of his friend and give her out to people who would have killed her if I didn’t come into the picture?
“You.”
The single word I said made him stand up straight and look down at his feet, his legs shaking.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you sorry? What did you do?” I asked scoffing.
So he knows what he did afterall…
“I’m sorry. I know you want to kill me because of what happened to Rain and I’m really sorry about that.”
” Give me a reason why I shouldn’t kill you here and now.”
He looked up at me, his eyes clouded with tears as he stared at me, his eyes pleading with me to let him go.
“I’ll tell you where Kia is. I’m not saying you shouldn’t kill me, you can kill me because I deserve it. I shouldn’t have sold out my friend like that but just promise me this one thing, that you’ll kill Kia first. After that, you can do anything you want to me but please don’t let him have the joy of messing with me.”
He looked really desperate. Guess I wasn’t the only one who was after Kia’s death.
“How do you want to make me kill Kia? Do you have any idea where he went to? If you do, then maybe I can spare your life for now,” I said, watching him closely to see his reaction.
He didn’t flinch at all which meant that he was actually not lying to escape death.
“Kia took your mother Elena. I saw them as they were going out. I think he probably threatened her or something because she followed him willingly.”
He kept on talking but I wasn’t really listening to him because I got distracted at the fact that he knew that Elena was my mother.
Who was he really?! Not many people know her as my mother , infact, even Rain had no idea who she was until she met her today.
“You said Elena… Who is she?”
I was testing him.
“Your mother, of course,” he answered looking at me with confusion on his face.
“How do you know that she is my mother? We’re you here when I introduced her?”
I shook my head slightly as soon as I said it because I knew I never introduced her as my mother.
“No … I knew her way back. I saw her when she got burnt. Remember there was someone who saw her? Yeah it was me. Also the dagger that Kia sent to you was supposed to be for your mother, his last gift to her but I sent it to you instead.”
I nodded my head as it all finally made sense.
“Okay. Now I get it. What were we saying about Kia and my mother again?”
” I told you that Kia took your mother. Just trace them , you’ll see them soon, they wouldn’t have gotten that far by now.”
I nodded my head and turned to leave when I noticed that he was going in an opposite direction as I was.
“Where are you going? You’re supposed to go with me,” I asked, surprised that he wasn’t going with me.
Did he actually think that he was going to stay while I go?
“Oh.. I actually wanted to go as bury my mate. I know it’s no use but I hate the fact that she is among the bodies here and wanted to give her a befitting burial,” He answered, his eyes glassy with tears.
“alright. You can do what you want and I’m sorry for your loss. I know what it means to lose a mate.”
I watched as he took heavy steps away from me before I turned to leave the hall , tracing my mom’s scent as I moved.
I got closer to the smell and before I knew it, I was already going into the woods, the scent increasing the more step I take until I finally arrived at the cliff where Kia was standing and holding my mother.
His claws was on her chest!
“Ah Rex! I knew you’d come find me!” Kia said as soon as he saw me.
“Go back home Rex. You don’t have to see this.”
I looked at my mother and decided to ignore what she was saying.
“You know , Rex, you’re like a son to me. I’ll be honest with you, I really loved you as a son.”
His words irritated me but I didn’t what to say anything to upset him at that moment, not while he has his hands to my mom’s chest.
“Go home Rex,” My mother repeated, ” this is a deal between your father and Kia. He sold me out as soon as I gave birth to you. You don’t have to worry, just go.”
“He sold you but where is he now? He has no say here anymore. I’m the one with the last say, I’m the alpha. So whatever I say is what will happen.”
” You’re the Alpha, huh? ” Kia asked.
“Yes. So I’ll go back with my mother and just pretend like all of this didn’t happen. Like you didn’t just pass my boundary.”
It annoyed me to see Kia still laughing as if none of what I was saying was important enough for him to listen to it.
“You want your mother back right? But do you think she’ll be safe with you? I don’t think so though. She’ll be safer with me than with you, ” He said still laughing.
I took a step towards him but his hands tightened around my mother’s chest so I had to stop exactly where I was.
“I know what you would do, Rex. I’m always one step ahead of you just so you know. Besides, since Rain is mixed, I’m pretty sure lots of people would want her,” He said with a mischievous smile on his face.
Mixed?! What does he mean? His statement confused me.
“What happened to Rain? What do you mean by she’s mixed?”
He laughed and shook his head before continuing to talk and ignoring the question I just asked him.
“I sent word around all the packs, especially the four ones next to you so good luck with the fighting I guess. But i know you, Rex, you’ll definitely enjoy yourself, afterall there’s going to be a bloodbath, isn’t that something associated with your kind? ” he snorted.
I was more confused than I had been some minutes earlier and he wasn’t didn’t anything to help it either. He kept in speaking in parables.
“Elena though will come with me. It’ll be fun to impregnate her and see if she can give birth to a child for me. Or probably use her as a pleasure tool,” He said smiling as he tightened his hands around her chest.
I watched my mother but she was standing still, staring straight ahead.
“Can’t you use your head, mom?” I asked and it was almost as if I just woke her up from sleep as she used the back of her head to hit Kia’s mouth and I rushed at him punching him as his teeth sunk into my flesh them I pushed him down the cliff.
I turned to my mom with a satisfying smile on my face, glad that Kia was finally dead.
“Hop on, let’s go home.”
