I stood there, still transfixed at the fact that I was seeing Rex change in front of me for the first time and also seeing a Lycan for the very first time also.
Brook’s words suddenly registered in my head but I couldn’t turn my head to face him and ask him what he meant by that.
What did he mean? What did he know about Rex that he wasn’t saying?
But I couldn’t bring myself to ask those words as the sight before me scared me at the same time, intrigued me.
It was my first time of seeing a Lycan and see how it’ll look like to be one
Now I know why people fear lycans , they look scary alone at the sight not to mention the things they can do.
“So it was actually true? Wow… The curse must be true also,” Brook said, still sounding astonished just like me.
I was a bit surprised to see that he was still there and he didn’t run away like the others.
“Shut up, you fool, ” Kia said in a angry tone and I turned to face him, surprised to see him there also.
Turns out both Kia and Brook were not as cowardly as I thought they were.
“What? It’s true. It’s all because of the curse that’s why he’s like this,” Brook answered, frowning at Kia.
The curse! I’ve heard something like that before. When I was back at Rex’s pack, I heard someone mention the fact that he was cursed by his own father and that was why his other mate left him and broke his heart.
Was this really why he’s a Lycan?! Isn’t it possible that he was just born that way?
“I said you should stop mentioning the curse! It doesn’t relate to anything we’re doing here. Stop mentioning irrelevant things,” Kia hissed.
I wanted to take advantage of their distracted minds and walk off to Rex’s side but I was a bit terrified of going next to Rex especially as he is in a state like that.
Just when I was about to move my legs and see if I can get to Rex, Kia grabbed me back by holding the collar of my shirt and brought the stick to my chest again, making me suck my breath in.
“I don’t care if he’s under a curse or not, but Rex, if you dare make any step towards us, I’ll make sure I kill her here and now. I mean it,” Kia said, holding the stick closer to my chest.
I looked at Rex, terrified. What if in his Lycan form he decides to go against the warning that Kia gave him and I end up dead?
I know Kia, he’s definitely not kidding about the fact that he’s going to kill me the moment Rex take another step towards us even though I know that Brook might not allow him.
“I just want my mate and everything is going to be normal. Give her back to me as you promised and I won’t try and harm you at all,” Rex said, his voice sounding more huffy and muffled through the mouth of his Lycan form.
As I spoke I saw how sharp his canines were, so sharp that if they simply graze across someone, they’ll definitely tear the person apart.
“You know damn well that that’s not going to happen so just stay right where you are otherwise…”
” Otherwise what? You’ll kill her? Do you think you’ll be able to be free after that? You think I’ll let you be?” Rex asked, interrupting him and confirming my fears of him trying to go against Kia’s warning.
“I know you won’t let me be but at least, I’ll let you live with the guilt of harming your Mate. If you’re willing to live with that guilt then no problem, try and make a move towards me.”
Kia wasn’t kidding. His arms around my neck tightened and I could already feel the sharp end of the stick on my chest.
‘Please… please don’t move Rex,’ I pleaded in my head.
“I’ll give you some minutes to think about it but if you don’t, you know what’s going to happen next. Give me my mate as well as my mother.”
Great. The Lycan was a total fool, doesn’t he know that before he makes a move towards me, I’ll be dead by then?
“Ohh… you have to do it, Kia. Remember, it’s the curse!”
” Oh, will you shut up?! Enough about the curse already!”
He turned to glare at Brook because of his statement before turning back to face Rex.
“Elena knows the drill. She knows that I don’t follow any plan at all so she said should have stayed with you.”
” Hey.. but that isn’t part of plan,” Brook complained when he realized that Kia wasn’t playing about his plans to kill me.
Guess Brook really doesn’t want me dead, but then again, why would he? When he could benefit a lot from me being alive.
“I never had a plan with you. You were the one who came up with this plan, busy thinking of how to get back at Rex for doing something that he has no idea about,” Kia snorted.
I raised my eyebrows at that. What did Rex do to Brook that he was bent on taking revenge after?
As if he was reading my mind and heard the question, Brook frowned his face as he turned to Rex who was still silently watching them and talked.
“Of course he knows about it, he’s probably just pretending not to have an idea about it. Just in case you don’t remember, let me refresh your memory. I lost my pack because of you,” He said angrily.
Rex made a sound that seemed like he was laughing at him but because of his form, I couldn’t be so sure.
“Yeah… laugh all you want but remember that my father worked so hard to make that pack but you! You just had to take it away from me!”
” Your father worked hard??! That’s what you think? Let me refresh your memory also since it seems as though you’ve romanticised yours. Your father didn’t make that pack. My father did. He did it because no one else could, so get your facts right”
I was still stuck between Kia and Brook, with the stick at my chest but I could feel the intensity of Rex’s anger and all I wished for at that moment was for Rex to be able to control himself otherwise I was going to end up dead.
“Huh?! Wow… I see that’s what you’re telling yourself so you wouldn’t feel guilty, right?!”
” That’s the facts , Brook. I didn’t ask you to get yourself involved with evil things like kidnapping and killing women and children. You and your father brought it upon yourselves.”
“I didn’t bring anything on myself, Rex, for your information, I am a grown man not a coward and I do whatever I want! Just like I will right now,” He said, looking around and smiling as his face landed upon a young lady by the corner of the hall.
“Come over here,” He ordered and grabbed her hands as soon as she got close.
My eyes widened when I saw her. It was Hannah! Alaric’s mate and the only human among us!
What was he going to do to her?!
He held her by the throat and I watched as she at first tried to struggle with him and then stopped when she saw that she was no match for him.
“I’ll kill her if anyone tries to come near me or even try to say that I’m not allowed to do what I want.”
I felt despair. He was going to do whatever he wants with her and that means he’s probably going to kill her.
I made a promise to Hannah one time that I would save her out of this hell hole now she’s standing right in front of me, about to die!
I looked at Kia from the corner of my eyes and he seemed too focused on Rex, watching him so he wouldn’t move.
It was time! Time for me to make a move now that he’s distracted and save Hannah.
As I was still contemplating on how to do it, I saw Brook’s claws coming out from his fingers and without thinking, I immediately let go of myself from Kia’s grasp around my chest but that was just as Brook’s claws slit through Hannah’s throat.
No! I screamed as I fell on the floor next to the bleeding body of Hannah.
I didn’t know what to do next but the only thing I could think of was to turn her.
I bit my hands and tried to force her to suck my blood but even after I’ve fed her my blood, I couldn’t hear her heartbeat.
She was dead. Again, another person has died and it was all because of me!
The thoughts ran through my head as I cried and the only thing I could do was shift.
I felt my body slowly squeezing into the wolf form and I screamed.
I turned to Brook and tried to attack him for what he did but a splash of blood stopped me, Brook’s blood.
Shocked, I told still as Klaus stood in front of me holding Brook’s heart.
“Grow back another heart, Dickface!” Klaus smirked.
Oh, it was him.
He would never change.
