As Abbigail’s injured foot gradually recovered, her beautiful face became radiant with curiosity. She couldn’t understand how the medicine could be so effective.
Darnell looked at the enchanting Abbigail and found it hard to associate her with the famous journalist he had imagined. But before he could embrace this idea, Abbigail’s phone rang.
Shortly after, more than ten well-dressed men and women appeared, scanning their surroundings before heading towards their corner.
“Miss Cornish!”
No need to ask, Darnell knew that Abbigail’s people had arrived. How could a major journalist involved in a car accident not have people concerned about her?
Although he liked beautiful women repaying favors, he didn’t like being surrounded by a bunch of people. So Darnell was ready to leave. But before he left, he remembered something and reminded Abbigail, “What happened just now didn’t seem like an accident. Perhaps you have a target on your back. Be careful.”
“Judging from the way they hit you, they won’t let it go easily.”
Upon hearing Darnell’s words, Abbigail smiled. She no longer acted coquettish but replied with a charming smile, “Don’t worry. I’ve been in this industry for many years and have experienced many storms. I will protect myself.”
Darnell nodded lightly. Indeed, Abbigail couldn’t become the top journalist without being smart. So he smiled and said goodbye.
“Goodbye.”
Abbigail softly responded, “We will definitely meet again.”
She found this playful man in front of her quite interesting and wanted to get to know him more in the future.
However, as Darnell walked a few meters away, she called out again, “You’ve helped me so much. Do you really not want anything in return?”
“Oh, I almost forgot something.”
Darnell slapped his forehead and quickly turned back. “I heard that you have a close relationship with One Cent Foundation. I want that deal for the mountainous areas.”
“My sales performance this quarter is not enough.”
Abbigail smiled playfully again, “You’re really cute.”
“Since I saved you from the accident and treated your wound, if you don’t do me this favor, you’ll disappoint me.”
Darnell grinned mischievously and swiftly left the clinic.
As Darnell walked away, Abbigail’s enchanting demeanor gradually softened into warmth. There was an indescribable brightness in her eyes as she murmured to herself, “What an interesting person.”
The next morning in the office.
“Mr. Halford, have you seen the news?”
Darnell reached his seat and took a sip of tea brewed by Bailee when Casey leaned over and whispered to him, “Abbigail returned to Whiteville yesterday and almost got hit by a car.”
She joked, “Don’t you have a connection with her? You can take advantage of this opportunity to secure the deal.”
Just as she finished speaking, Shayla, who was on the phone earlier, pouted with a frustrated expression.
“This deal is hopeless. Jolie just called me and informed me that the foundation will no longer meet with representatives from any pharmaceutical company. The five million deal is off.”
Darnell was taken aback. “The deal is off? How come I didn’t know?”
Then he felt a bit disappointed because he thought Abbigail would pull some strings to help him, but it seemed that Abbigail had forgotten about it.
“Mr. Halford, don’t you know Abbigail? Shouldn’t you give her a call?”
Noticing Shayla’s low spirits, Bailee smiled at Darnell, “Maybe she’ll be happy and help secure the deal with One Cent Foundation.”
Although she thought Darnell didn’t really know Abbigail, let alone saw her chest, she still hoped that he wasn’t joking around.
Slapping his forehead, Darnell realized that he had Abbigail’s phone number. He quickly picked up his phone and dialed.
Seeing his actions, the three women were stunned. Did Darnell really know Abbigail?
But they soon sarcastically tapped Darnell’s head because he told them, “Her phone is turned off.”
Shayla sneered at him. “Mr. Halford, forget it. Stop playing around and teasing us all the time.”
Darnell helplessly said, “I really know Abbigail.”
“You got to know her from the television, right?”
At that moment, Eliezer appeared with a cup of coffee followed by several subordinates. He sarcastically said, “You have no degree and no background, so how is it possible for Abbigail to have any connection with you? If the order doesn’t get completed, just say it. Making up such a poor excuse is laughable.”
“By the way, Bailee and the others performed well yesterday, securing six orders and generating two hundred thousand in sales.”
Eliezer smiled with a hint of mockery, “Mr. Halford, congratulations on completing another two hundred thousand.”
A few people around him snickered.
Watching Eliezer, who came every day just to make things difficult for them, Casey and the others exchanged cold glances, while Darnell chuckled.
“Mr. Izzard, no need for unnecessary chatter. Just be ready with the money. I know you have quite a fortune, but a million is still a hefty sum. It would be quite an embarrassment if you couldn’t come up with it.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve had the money ready for a while. It’s sitting in my office.”
Eliezer let out a cold laugh. “There are still four days left before you meet the performance target. If you succeed, I’ll gladly hand it over.”
“Excuse me. Where is Darnell?”
At that moment, a voice came from the entrance. Eliezer and the others felt a jolt and turned to look at the door, where a man and two women were approaching.
The man exuded a formidable presence, his gaze haughty and inherently superior.
The striking woman in the middle held her head high, her makeup bold, adorned with three bracelets and sparkling earrings. If her face hadn’t been slightly smaller, Darnell might have mistaken her for Jazmine. Their air of arrogance was too similar.
The other woman was much more agreeable. It was Jolie. She was dressed in a tailored suit, her smile gentle and her demeanor polite, a stark contrast to her two companions.
“Jolie!”
Shayla exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Jolie, but her excitement quickly faded under Jolie’s steady gaze as she turned her attention to the woman in the middle.
After a quick glance, Shayla’s lips curled into a delighted smile as she whispered, “The vice president of the foundation, Mya Ashworth.”
Bailee perked up. “Could it be that she’s here to sign a deal, just like Chandler?”
Casey looked on with admiration. “If that’s the case, Mr. Halford is really something.”
Eliezer clearly recognized the striking woman. He greeted her with a hearty laugh, “Hello, Ms. Ashworth. What brings you here?”
“Hello, Mr. Izzard.”
Mya glanced at Eliezer and raised an eyebrow. “You’ve gained weight. Seems like you’re doing quite well over time.”
“But your arrogance has also grown. Haven’t you taken care of our foundation for almost half a year? Do you look down on us?”
Eliezer laughed heartily, “One Cent Foundation is one of Whiteville’s top ten organizations.”
“You often organize activities and do good deeds for the mountainous areas. How could I look down on you?”
“But there have been too many things happening recently. You know we lost Adventure Industries as a major client, so headquarters has put a lot of pressure on us.”
Eliezer skillfully changed the subject. “By the way, what can I help you with today?”
“I am the head of the sales department with the most authority and discounts.”
“I heard that you have a project in the mountain region. I can show my support by reducing your burden, Ms. Ashworth.”
He had heard them talking to Darnell earlier and felt anxious about it. He had to do something before things went wrong, even if he had to lose some money.
Upon hearing Eliezer’s words, Shayla and others looked at him disdainfully. This scoundrel was resorting to such despicable means again, but as they opened their mouths to speak, Darnell silenced them with a gesture.
“Indeed, I’m here today to discuss the collaboration, but I’m afraid we won’t be able to enjoy Mr. Izzard’s discount. I came here to find Darnell.”
Mya commented without revealing too much. “The higher-ups specifically mentioned him for this deal.”
When Eliezer’s face darkened, Mya continued scanning the entire office.
“Is Darnell here?”
Eliezer anxiously blurted out, “Ms. Ashworth, I can offer 500 thousand…”
If Darnell secured this deal, Eliezer would have to pay one million dollars out of his own pocket, so he reluctantly offered 500 thousand as an attempt to intervene.
Mya glanced at Eliezer but didn’t say anything. She continued scanning the room.
Bailee excitedly shouted, “He’s here! Mr. Halford is right here!”
She pointed at Darnell leisurely sipping tea. “He is Darnell!”
Darnell put down his teacup and extended his hand towards Mya. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Ashworth. I am Darnell.”
Jolie quickly introduced, “Ms. Ashworth, he is Darnell, who came to our foundation yesterday but couldn’t find you.”
“You’re Darnell?”
Ignoring Jolie, Mya walked straight up to Darnell before giving Darnell a dismissive glance.
“You’re quite arrogant, sitting there like an aristocrat.”
“Didn’t your superior teach you that when guests arrive, you should warmly welcome them at the entrance?”
Her male assistant coldly added, “Exactly! No manners at all!”
Darnell chuckled, “I just had some numbness in my leg, so I was a bit slow. My apologies.”
“Ms. Ashworth, please take a seat,” Bailee quickly offered, pouring Mya a glass of water. “Ms. Ashworth, here’s some water for you.”
“Do you really think I’d drink this garbage water?” Mya retorted dismissively, waving it away. “Have you ever hosted a guest of my caliber, or is your quality just that low? Do I look like someone who drinks twenty-dollar-a-barrel water?”
Splash!
The glass Bailee was holding was knocked from her hand, shattering on the floor and creating a wet mess.
Eliezer reveled in the misfortune, while Shayla and Casey were furious, shocked by Mya’s overbearing attitude.
Jolie felt helpless but knew her voice carried little weight and couldn’t do much about it.
“Ms. Ashworth, how about some soda water I just bought?”
As Bailee went to clean up the floor, Shayla handed Mya a bottle of soda. However, Mya shot it a cold glance, full of disdain.
“Handing things over with one hand? No sense of upbringing at all.”
Darnell smiled faintly, “Ms. Ashworth, are you here today just for some water or for business discussion?”
“A small detail reveals everything,”
Mya coldly observed Darnell before saying disdainfully, “You’ve disappointed me greatly. If it weren’t for orders from above, I wouldn’t do business with your company.”
She snapped her fingers and her male assistant presented a stack of documents which landed on Darnell’s desk with a thud.
“Hurry up and sign these papers without any discount. Purchase our products at full price while your company covers shipping costs.”
Mya presented it as if she were doing them a favor.
“I won’t be doing this losing business. If I’m going to do it, it has to be on my terms.”
Before Casey or anyone else could feel relieved or excited about securing the deal, Darnell swept his gaze over the documents on the table and said firmly,
“Bailee, please see our guests out.”
Mya and her team were left dumbfounded.
