Nadine’s POV
As Logan prepares to leave, I reach out and grasp his arm, “Logan, stay.”
His face illuminates with a radiant smile, and I’m struck by the uncanny resemblance to Shawn. The same piercing eyes, the same jawline.
Logan takes a step closer, his expressions were that of uncertainty, curiosity, and vulnerability.
My mom rises from her seat, interrupting the charged moment. “I’ll call the doctor,” she says, exiting the room.
“Thanks, Ma,” Logan says, turning his head to watch her leave.
The room falls silent, with only the sound of our ragged breathing, I’m scared he would hear my heart pounding loudly.
I hold his gaze, my heart pounding. What secrets lie beneath his enigmatic smile?
Logan’s eyes lock onto mine. He takes another step closer, his uncertainty palpable. Time stands still as he stares at me, my heart pounding in my chest.
I smile, breaking the tension. Logan’s face relaxes, and he smiles back. He leans in, his lips brushing against my forehead in a gentle kiss.
“Wow, Nadine, I’m so glad you’re okay,” he whispers, with relief on his face. “You gave me quite a scare. I’ve never been more afraid in my life than when I saw life slipping away from you.”
“Thank you for fighting back all odds and coming back to us. Shawn misses you,” he says
I know he will.” I pause, my eyes welling up. “I miss my boy too.”
“And did you miss me too?” he asks.
I raise my hand to my face, watching Logan’s reaction. Do I miss him? The answer echoes within me.
“Of course, I miss you too, Logan,” I reply, my voice barely above a whisper.
Logan’s expression softens, “Thank you, Nadine. I’m glad you weren’t stubborn about accepting that necklace. It saved your life.”
“True, I’m glad I wasn’t.”
I couldn’t take any chances after the break-in at your house. That incompetent bodyguard I hired… who knows if they’re working with Blake and Jones?”
I lay back on the bed as I thought about Ethan’s fate. Did he survive? The memory of Sydney’s lifeless body, her eyes frozen in a permanent stare, haunts me. My heart aches thinking about how she wasted her life in pursuit of revenge.
“I can’t wait to be home again,” I say, yawning, but then a sudden realization hits me. “Wait, who’s taking care of Shawn?”
Logan’s face lights up with a warm smile. “My best buddy? I hired a nanny for him. I had to do a thorough background check on her before hiring. I don’t want to make mistakes with my family ever again.”
My heart swells, seeing the depth of Logan’s devotion to his family. He’s changed, and I hope it’s for the best. The way he prioritizes their well-being, ensuring their safety and happiness, is truly admirable.
Then the doctor enters with my mom, and Logan’s hand tightens around mine. The doctor begins his examination, asking a series of questions that I answer correctly. He scribbles notes on his pad, with a thoughtful expression.
“We’ll run some more tests to ensure everything is perfect, and then you’re free to go,” he says, smiling.
I exhale in relief, eager to go home. Many questions still swirl in my mind, but for now, I’ll go with the flow and see where it leads.
My near-death experience has brought everyone together in a surprising turn of events. Nathalie, Jake, and even the man I’ve always known as my father are all under one roof, checking in on me.
As I glance at Nathalie, I know I should forgive and move on. She’s had her share of struggles with Jake, and I’m sure life has taught her some tough lessons.
I turn to Jake, but he avoids eye contact, his gaze darting around the room. It’s been a long time since we last spoke, and I know holding grudges won’t solve anything. Life has happened, and it’s time to move forward.
My gaze drifts around the room, taking in the faces of those who care about me. Logan’s steady presence, my mom’s warm smile, Nathalie’s hesitant glance it’s a mix of emotions, but ultimately, love and concern were evident on their faces.
The doctor finishes his examination and leaves the room.
As I think about this new reality, I’m forced to confront the daunting task of rebuilding my life without Ethan. He had been a constant presence in my life for almost four years, and his betrayal has left me reeling.
I’m struggling to trust my mind, wondering if I’ll ever be able to love again without fear of being hurt. The thought of therapy crosses my mind, I know I need it to heal and learn to trust once more.
Finally, after an eternity, I’m discharged from the hospital. The doctor’s instructions echo in my mind: medication, healthy food, and regular check-ups.
But my heart yearns for something more – my son, Shawn. I’m eager to hold him close and kiss his face while he giggles.
Logan wheels me out of the room, insisting I’m not strong enough to walk. It is a reminder that I’m not alone.
Each time I touch my chest, I’m reminded of the miracle that saved me. Survival is a surreal concept, one I’m still grappling with.
“Thank God for a second chance,” I whisper, tears welling up.
Logan takes my hand and squeezes it lightly. “You’re not alone, Nadine.”
As I settle into the car, I notice the nurses batting their eyelashes at Logan, but he remains unfazed, his attention fixed on me. His touch sends shivers down my spine, and I’m reminded that he still holds a piece of my heart.
“Ready to go home?” he asks, rubbing his hands nervously.
I nod, smiling. “Of course, Logan. I’ve missed home.”
He slides into the seat beside me, his driver starting the engine once we’re settled. I gaze out the window, sensing Logan’s unease. He has so much to say, but the words seem stuck in his throat.
The silence between us is palpable, yet comfortable. I can feel his eyes on me, searching for the right moment to speak. I’m not ready to hear what he has to say, not yet. But I know it’s coming.
As we drive through the streets, I’m lost in thought. My heart is still reeling from Ethan’s betrayal, and now Logan’s presence is stirring up emotions I thought were long buried.
I glance at Logan, his profile strong. What does he want to say? And am I ready to hear it?
Logan takes my hand, his touch sending a flutter through my chest. He lifts my hand to his lips, planting a soft kiss that makes my heart skip a beat. His smile is contagious, and I can’t help but smile back.
“Shawn will be thrilled to see you,” Logan says, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “You’ve done an amazing job raising our son. He’s every parent’s dream child.”
My heart swells with pride, hearing Logan praise our son. I’ve missed Shawn terribly, and the thought of reuniting with him brings tears to my eyes.
“Two weeks without my son…” I whisper, shaking my head. “I didn’t think I’d live to see that day, but life happens.”
Logan’s grip on my hand tightens. “You’re alive, and that’s all that matters. Shawn needs you, and I need you too.”
His words wrap around my heart, warming me from the inside out. I glance at Logan, his expression is sincere.
“We’ve missed you, Nadine, Shawn would talk about you every day, asking when Mommy would come home.”
Tears well up in my eyes, but I smile through them. “I’ve missed him so much. I can’t wait to hold him close.”
As we turn into the familiar compound. My heart begins to pound in my chest, threatening to burst free. I had been told I was going home, but I hadn’t processed where “home” really was. Now, seeing the house I once shared with Logan brings back memories.
