Raul didn’t smile at my figurative expression. He looked in the direction of Daniel rather-the manager had taken the Lycan to one side to discuss with him. I’m sure the manager was having the time of his life.
“You should have told me…” Raul spoke, retuning his attention to me. “I would have bought you something, maybe taken you to the eatery just a few miles away from the store.”
All to prevent Daniel from walking with me? That was a little too late, because the anticipation of having Laura’s food on an empty stomach was more tempting that going out on a date with Raul.
‘It isn’t a date. He just wants to buy you food.’
Whatever.
“I can still take you now….”
Really? Nah. Sorry dude, try again the next time.
“That’s won’t be necessary. I will be walking her home now. Her request was granted.” Daniel said, interrupting us, giving the expert no I wanted to give Raul.
“Are you ready to leave?” Daniel asked me, done with Raul.
“I just need to get my bag.” I mused, and left the both there. Well, I thought I did until the door of the workers’ room opened ahd shut after me when I walked into it to get my bag.
I turned swiftly, gasping when Raul pulled me into his arms. What’s with this guy and touching me without my permission?
‘You relaxed the boundaries because you kissed him.’
I wasn’t sure if that was a remark or a warning. But Raul’s arms have always been enjoyable.
“Don’t go with him.”
When did Raul become obsessive like the triplets? I tried to disengage myself from his arms, but he held me tight to himself, not bearing to let me go. It pissed rme off.
“Let. go. of. me. Raul.” It was delivered in a such a cold voice, I made sure of that, that Raul immediately let me go.
“I’m sorry…I just…” He ruffled his hair as he spoke, darting glances all around the room.
Without saying any word to him or making an attempt to pacify him or his worries, I grabbed my bag from my open locker, shut the locker, and then walked out of the room. I didn’t owe Raul anything.
When I was about getting to the buyer section, Daniel entered the hallway. I must have exceeded the time limit he gave me. I chuckled at the irony, righting myself however before he met me.
“What took you so long?”
I gave him no response. I just walked around him and left the hallway.
I waved a good bye to Gabriella and Levina, and the customers that kept nodding greetings at me, before heading to the manager for my pay. When I saw the payment in my hand, I wasn’t surprised. Of course Daniel would make sure that the man paid me my fully and an extra for hardwork, despite leaving the store for more than thirty minutes.
“I heard you unpacked the boxes and shelve the contents, all by yourself. That’s a good feat. It earned you an extra…”
I nodded meekly, pocketed the money, and left the store.
“Are we back to no-talking again? What did Raul tell you?”
“He told me nothing, I just don’t like people crossing certain boundaries. That I allowed you to walk me home doesn’t mean that you should put a time limit on me, or come find me because I was taking time in the store room. You should know I might be busy. I don’t belong to you or Raul. Nor will I ever be.”
Daniel paused in his movement.
I ignored him and kept walking. I knew the way to my house. He was with me a few seconds later.
“I’m sorry if that was the picture I created.”
All of these just to get into my pants, or was it the marriage alliance? I shook my head. Two impossibilities. The boy was just troubling himself for nothing, that wouldn’t deter me either from making a killing blow should an opportunity present itself.
This week, I have been trying to reason the best way to enact a revenge, but to no avail. My other hasn’t been helpful either. As a matter of fact, she has been silent during the thinking process, and had refused to contribute to any of my strategies.
Maybe it meant that the time wasn’t right yet. I had concluded, shelving the plans for the future, but still open for opportunities that would help with it.
“You know, you really look like her. Now that I think of it, you even sound like her.”
I knew who he was talking about, and knew of the nervousness that was beginning to rear its ugly head. My voice was beginning to sound like my old self?
‘Stay calm. You are nothing like your old self.’
‘You knew my old self? You were there?’
Silence greeted me.
“Did you hear what I said, Dora? You remind me of Maya?”
“Yeah, I got that. What happened to her finally?” I asked. We just took the last bend that would lead to Laura’s house.
“She disappeared.”
“She disappeared or you lot killed her.”
Daniel barked out a laugh that stopped me on my tracks, and grated on my nerves. “You are funny Dora. Why would I kill her? As a matter of fact, after the declaration to send her off to the human world, I lost my anger for her, or zeal to bully her. In addition, Adam had suddenly gone crazy over her…well, it started with that hot bikini though. Just between us, I would have love to date Maya if given the opportunity.”
I shook my head, ignoring the comment about Naomi’s bikini which had triggered their lust for me. Lies upon lies. The brothers were very skilled in that. I didn’t want to hear anymore. They must have planned to give their stupid replies to douse suspicions.
“Why shaking your head? You really think we had killed her? The gods! What do you really think of us?”
Monsters.
He had even mastered the incredulous look well enough. If I hadn’t seen it on Adam’s face today, despite my truths, I might have been tempted to believe him.
“Whatever. You can leave now. I’m already home.”
Daniel chuckled. “You aren’t aware?”
“Aware of what?”
Daniel chuckled again. I wanted to slap him again. Out with it, wolf!
“Adam is at your place. Your Aunt is treating him.”
