“Are you getting off on this? Are you a fan of bdsm? Do the hits and scorn give you the thrill you seek for?”
Daniel’s shock has given way to dry humor. He was annoyed.
Well, I would be if the roles were reversed. Why the hell had I slapped him? Though it was called for-he had bullied me because he was just bored; he had made my life miserable because he was just bored-he didn’t deserve it because he wouldn’t know the exact reason why I had slapped him. He had a worser reason than Adam though. I wondered what Noah’s would be. Maybe he was the one getting off the abuse?
To Daniel’s stupid yet deserved question, I shook my head.
“Did you hit Adam when both of you had gotten cozy a week ago? See, I have thought about it, and for Adam to kiss you, to get into your space, it would mean that you had let him, that you had let him touch you. Am I wrong?”
I gave no response, other than scrunching my face in disgust. Daniel didn’t buy the fake expression this time around.
“So, how did he get around you? Forget that. I’m sure you won’t answer me. I will just have to apologise to Adam, and get the tricks from him-tips on how to get stubborn girls to let you touch them.” He gestured with his hands up in the air, as if he was trying to capture something.
It was funny, but I wouldn’t humour him.
“Sorry about the slap. I was just annoyed that you would make someone’s life miserable because you are bored.” I increased my walking pace, leaving him behind. He caught up to me in a second.
“I’m the one that should be apologizing…”
As you should.
“I regretted that, you know, bullying her. If I can see her again, I would apologize properly. I think both of you would have been great friends. You seem to share the same views on things.”
I said not a word. I looked at my wristwatch rather. Five minutes was far spent. I however, wanted to know more about his own version on what had happened to Maya.
I came to a halt then, and peered at my watch for the umpteenth time. It as just an hour to my closing time. Should I just scrap off the hour, and get what I want?
“What’s the matter? Our time has elapsed?”
I nodded.
“What is your closing time?” Daniel asked, standing beside me.
I could feel the heat emanating from his body. If he wasn’t a foe, I would have liked to drop my head on his shoulder, maybe hold hands and walk, like two friends would. But we were on opposite sides, with conflicting opinions about things. He still felt entitled to a lot. Would a few years change that, or make it worse? “Just an hour from now.”
He seemed to be deep in thought. Was he contemplating whisking me away?
Please… I was hungry. I needed to head home as soon as possible. I’ve already texted Laura the state of my stomach.
“If that’s the case, we can head back to the store. I will speak to the manager to let you go, since it’s just one hour. You look tired by the way. I’m not sure you will do much in the store anyway.”
Well, at least he had the brains to suggest that. I turned around and we began the little journey back to the store.
When we returned, Raul and Levina were swamped with customers, and Gabriella was nowhere to be seen. Did she retire early like i was about to?
When Raul sighted me, he sighed in relief and beckoned me with his eyes, maybe to help him with the load of customers. It was a rush hour, and it was weekend. The other counter officials had little to no people at their station. But then, that had been the case since I had joined the store, since I escaped Chyra’s evil. The community members always strolled to my counter, more often than the rest, which invariably increased my pay, which invariably increased the tension between I and the other workers.
Although Chyra and her two friends had been sacked, their mantle of stupidity had been transferred to a few others. Nevertheless, they wouldn’t dare make it obvious to me, or do something stupid like attacking me.
I wanted to answer Raul’s call, but Daniel chose that moment to point out the store manager that was heading to us. So, I ignored Raul and walked with Daniel, not because I preferred the latter, but because I preferred food over serving customers and what nots. It seemed expending the amount of magic today had me a ravenous beast.
“Hello, Good afternoon sir…” Daniel greeted the manager cheerily, a middle aged man who was surprised to have gotten the attention of a Lycan Prince, howbeit pleased.
“What can I do for you, Prince…”
I tuned them off and turned toward Raul, wondering what he would make of this. I saw what he was making of it. He had left the customers he was serving and was heading toward me.
Levina didn’t look pleased, being saddled with the entire customers. I sighed when I saw her gesticulating to some people on her queue to join the queue of the other workers on the counter. I saw the annoyance clouding the faces of the customers. I saw when she noticed that she had done a wrong thing. I saw when she apologized. Luckily, Gabriella came out from the hallway and joined her. No customer had left.
Raul was right in front of me now. “What are you still doing here?”
What are you still doing with him? The question was obvious in his eyes.
“I’m taking a leave. I need to go home.”
“Why? You have never left before the time. What’s the problem?”
I threw up my hands in frustration, tired of all the questions. I didn’t answer to him for god sake. This was the last.
My significant other chuckled. She didn’t believe me and she found it funny.
“Well, I haven’t expended magic as I have today. It made me ravenous. I am so hungry I can eat an animal.”
