“Hmm?” Rebecca was momentarily taken aback. “I’m not a pediatrician, so I don’t interact much with children. I’m usually busy with work and don’t have time for gatherings or events. But of course, I like well-behaved and sensible kids.”
She sat down on the other end of the bench and looked at Rosalind. “Why do you ask?”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I just thought Dr. Stewart, with your patience, would be great with kids.”
“As a doctor, how could I not be patient? Patients are already sick or injured, and naturally, they’re not in the best mood. If I were to have a sour face or act hastily, it would affect their willingness to cooperate with treatment.”
Rosalind could tell that Rebecca genuinely loved her profession. It wasn’t just a job she did to make a living. Given her status and family background, Rebecca could have chosen an easier path, but she chose this demanding career, which must have been out of true passion.
She was different from Rebecca. She had to bear many of life’s hardships and couldn’t always choose what she loved.
“Dr. Stewart, have you never had someone you liked? I mean, romantically, a man?”
Rosalind felt her question might be a bit intrusive since they weren’t close, but she hesitated for a moment before asking anyway. She really wanted to know the answer.
Rebecca thought seriously for a moment before replying, “I suppose there was someone, but we didn’t get to know each other well. Plus, I didn’t believe in love back then.”
“What kind of person do you like, Dr. Stewart?”
“Hmm…” Rebecca’s face showed a hint of struggle before she finally turned her gaze to Rosalind. “Probably someone like Mr. Walters.”
The moment those words left her mouth, Rosalind’s hand clenched involuntarily.
Did Rebecca… like Ulric?
Deep in thought, Rebecca didn’t notice Rosalind’s reaction. After pondering for a while, she continued, “I like someone who’s loyal, responsible, and respects women. Seeing how you and Mr. Walters interact these past few days has actually made me start thinking about finding a boyfriend!”
“Ulric… he does fit what you described.”
“Mr. Walters is more than that. He’s also good-looking, comes from a good family, and treats you so well!” Rebecca patted Rosalind’s shoulder. “Miss Ruell, I really envy you!”
“It’s not easy to find a man like Mr. Walters who’s willing to stay committed. I hope you two stay together for a long time. Don’t argue, don’t break up, and don’t destroy the little faith in love I’ve just started to build!”
Rebecca was open and sincere, without a trace of awkwardness or pretense.
Rosalind realized she had overthought things. Rebecca didn’t have any ulterior feelings for Ulric. She simply saw him as an ideal type.
If Rosalind hadn’t overheard Caesar and Rebecca’s conversation that day, she wouldn’t have asked these questions. But since she had, she couldn’t help but wonder.
For example…
After she left, would the Walters family try to match Rebecca with Ulric?
After all, Caesar had already hinted at it, and Rebecca met Audrey’s standards for a daughter-in-law-both in terms of family background and the relationship between the two families.
“Oh! You’re not having a fight with Mr. Walters, are you?” Rebecca suddenly realized.
Rosalind waved her hand. “No, I wouldn’t fight with him.”
They didn’t have much time left together. How could she bear to waste it on arguments?
