“To be honest, you’ve been pestering me for so long just for this, right?”
Tilda looked at him with a knowing smirk, her tone laced with disdain.
Johnny felt utterly wronged but had no way to explain himself. Holding it in was unbearable.
“Tilda, you really know how to sum things up!” He gave her a thumbs-up, his voice tinged with sarcasm. “I asked you to be my girlfriend, but you refused! I didn’t want to keep this kind of… improper relationship with you.”
“Oh, so you do know it’s improper?” Tilda shot him a glare, checked the time on her phone, and then pointed to a nearby convenience store. “Go buy the thing.”
Johnny’s train of thought could never keep up with Tilda’s.
“Buy what?”
“Condoms! Unless you want to end up with a baby.”
Johnny’s lips twitched. He didn’t like how she was acting so recklessly, as if their relationship had been reduced to nothing but a transactional affair.
Tilda, on the other hand, just wanted to get this over with and free herself from his constant pestering.
“Why are you still standing there?”
Johnny’s lips moved slightly. His voice lowered unconsciously as he said, “No need to buy. I have some in my car.”
“Hmph.” Tilda let out a cold laugh and pushed him away. “Let’s go. Where do you want to do that?”
“Now?”
“Mr. Chow, I just hope you’ll be quick this time. My parents are waiting for me at home.”
With that, she strode ahead with a carefree and indifferent demeanor, making Johnny look like a clingy lover begging for validation.
…
Rosalind took a walk around the hospital grounds and noticed how fresh the air was. The hospital was situated near a forest, and taking a deep breath, she could even catch the faint scent of leaves.
She found a bench and sat down, not planning to return to the ward anytime soon. She wanted to give Ulric some space to cool off. Otherwise, as soon as she went back, he would start questioning her again.
She had agreed to Caesar’s one-month deadline, and only a few days had passed. She wanted to spend the remaining time by Ulric’s side, cherishing the moments without worrying about the future or what would become of their relationship.
“Miss Ruell?”
Rebecca had just returned from the storage room with some medication. From a distance, she thought she recognized Rosalind but wasn’t sure until she got closer.
Rosalind turned her head and smiled. “Dr. Stewart.”
“What are you doing out here? Don’t you need to stay with Mr. Walters?”
Rebecca was holding a bag of medicine, her gentle smile as warm as ever. She was still wearing her ever-present white coat.
“I just needed some fresh air.”
“Oh.” Rebecca placed the medicine on the bench and then crouched down in front of Rosalind, carefully rolling up her pant leg. “Perfect timing. Let me take a look at your leg!”
She had none of the airs of a wealthy heiress. Her focus was solely on her patient’s condition, without hesitation or any hint of distaste.
Even some renowned doctors in the country carried a certain arrogance, expecting patients to accommodate their examinations, but Rebecca was never like that.
“Does it hurt? The bruising on your leg hasn’t completely faded, but the wound is healing.”
“It doesn’t hurt much anymore, but I still need to walk slowly.” Rosalind had nearly tripped earlier when she hurried out.
Rebecca nodded earnestly. “You need to be careful. It’s your leg, after all! If it doesn’t heal properly, you could end up limping for the rest of your life!”
Rosalind chuckled, “Alright, I’ll keep that in mind.”
She looked up at Rebecca, who stood bathed in sunlight, always so serene and gentle. She would probably make a patient and loving mother someday…
“Dr. Stewart, do you like children?”
