Chapter 542: He Said He Can’t Marry

Ulric and Rosalind exchanged a glance, his was questioning, while hers was filled with intrigue.
“What do you mean?”
“Tilda has a boyfriend! He even went to the airport to pick her up! She said she’s staying at that guy’s place tonight!”
Johnny was seething with frustration, feeling like he had nowhere to vent his anger.
“You’re back in the country?” He had left in such a hurry that no one knew if he had found Tilda at the airport. Yet now he was aware that someone had come to pick her up.
“Yeah, I followed her onto the plane, thinking we could have a calm conversation, but she ran off with another guy!” Johnny’s tone was as if someone had taken his wife away from him.
Rosalind quickly pieced together the situation.
Tilda didn’t have a boyfriend at all-at least not for the past few years! For the last four or five years, she had been busy helping take care of Floyd, occasionally working on some design projects from home. She hadn’t even been in the presence of any man, let alone having a boyfriend.
“That’s her cousin,” Rosalind clarified, not wanting anyone to get a bad impression of Tilda.
“Ah?” Johnny’s voice rose, and it took him a moment to respond. “Ulric! Are you on speakerphone again?”
Rosalind scoffed, “I’m not eavesdropping. I’m just blow-drying his hair.”
“Wait, what did you just say? That’s Tilda’s cousin?”
Ignoring him, Rosalind continued focusing on Ulric’s hair.
Seeing that she had no intention of matchmaking Johnny and Tilda, Ulric cleared his throat. “Yeah, Malcolm just called to say he picked Tilda up.”
There was silence on Johnny’s end for quite a while, as he struggled to respond.
Just as Ulric was about to hang up, Johnny finally spoke up, “Ulric, can you ask Rosalind to give me Tilda’s phone number?”
“No.”
“Are you still my friend or not?”
“Johnny, do you remember what I asked you at the hospital? Have you forgotten?”
Another pause followed.
“I’m hanging up. Since you’re back in the country, go back to the office tomorrow and let Cedric take a break.”
Ulric ended the call, and Rosalind looked at him curiously. “What did you talk about with Johnny?”
“I asked him if he’s so interested in Tilda, would he marry her?”
Rosalind frowned. “Even if he wants to marry her, Tilda wouldn’t marry someone like him-such a playboy.”
Ulric chuckled lightly, “He said he wouldn’t marry her, so you don’t need to worry.”
“I’m telling you, don’t interfere in Johnny and Tilda’s affairs! I know Tilda. She doesn’t see any future with Johnny. Otherwise, she would have given him her contact information.”
“Don’t worry. I have no interest in playing matchmaker.”
Rosalind let out a sigh, a hint of concern creeping in.
“If Johnny doesn’t want to marry Tilda, then why is he looking for her? I need to tell Tilda to be cautious.”
A man like Johnny wasn’t worth having! He lived a life of indulgence and debauchery, utterly ignorant of genuine feelings.
Ulric grasped her hand and suddenly asked, “What if I were someone like Johnny? Would you…”
“I wouldn’t,” Rosalind replied bluntly. “I detest men like that.”
She loathed men like Kennard-those without moral constraints, who only thought with their lower halves.
To them, relationships were trivial and unworthy of cherishing. They even treated fickleness as a badge of honor.
