“Ah?”
Rebecca was about to question how his obsession with cleanliness had anything to do with this, but then she looked at her own hands and quickly understood. She awkwardly tugged at her lips. “Sorry, it’s me who should be embarrassed.”
She watched as Ulric took each step forward, refusing to let anyone help him or even lean against the wall, his stubborn back straight as a rod, not allowing even the slightest curve.
Rebecca knew all too well how much pain Ulric must be in. His silhouette revealed subtle tremors, a clear indication of his suffering.
After all, it was a penetrating injury! There were wounds on both the front and back, and when he was brought in, it had been a bloody mess.
She remembered that when she first took over Ulric’s care, he had shown slight awareness, and his thin lips had been moving. At first, she thought he was calling out in pain and had tried to soothe him several times. It was only later that she realized… he had been calling out Rosalind’s name.
Rebecca sighed softly, suddenly feeling an overwhelming envy for Rosalind.
“Oh, how wonderful it would be if I could have such love.”

When Ulric returned to the hospital room, Rosalind was still asleep.
He gazed at her small figure nestled comfortably in bed, a smile lingering on his lips.
He admitted he had indeed worn her out.
Not wanting to disturb her rest, Ulric slowly took a chair and positioned himself beside her bed, continuing to quietly admire her peaceful expression.
As he watched, the amusement in his dark eyes deepened.
Honestly, he felt a bit like a creep!
But who could understand?
It was like the excitement of finally plucking the stars he had long admired in his youth.
He once thought she would never love him in this lifetime, but at this moment, she was lying right beside him. She had come all this way, disregarding everything, just to be with him. Ulric was truly afraid this was all just a dream!
He was afraid that the knife Sirena had plunged into him had already claimed his life, and that everything happening now was merely an illusion!
Ulric reached out, gently brushing his fingers along her arm resting by her cheek, trailing to her brows and hair, wishing time could just freeze here and not move forward.
He didn’t know how long he had been lost in his thoughts when there was a knock at the door.
Ulric instinctively frowned and glanced at the surveillance monitor by the door. Seeing it was Johnny, he pressed the button to unlock it.
Johnny had initially come to vent about Tilda, but upon entering, he was met with the sight of Rosalind sleeping soundly. Although Ulric’s handsome face was still a bit pale, he seemed to be in good spirits. Johnny immediately understood the situation.
“Shall we step outside to talk?”
He gestured toward the small sitting area built into the room.
Ulric nodded and made sure to pull the blanket up over Rosalind before leaving.
As soon as the door closed, Johnny couldn’t help but tease, “Ulric, you’re really indulging her, aren’t you? Look at Rosalind-how long has she been sleeping?”
Ulric wasn’t accustomed to discussing such personal matters in front of others.
To be precise, he had only recently mustered the courage to talk about these things in Rosalind’s presence.
“What do you want?”
“Why are you blushing?” Johnny seized the opportunity to make fun of Ulric, pointing at his already flushed ears, laughing uncontrollably, “Am I right? How many times have you two…?”
Ulric frowned, trying to mask his embarrassment, “What is it that you really want?”
“Is this your way of changing the subject?” Johnny scoffed. “Come on, I’m a man, and I understand since I’ve been holding it in for a long time. If I had a hot, beautiful woman right now, she’d probably be lying in bed like Rosalind!”
