At that moment, images suddenly flashed through Nelson’s mind-those photos.
Callie instinctively leaned in for a kiss. She tilted her head up, but he avoided her touch. In his haste to dodge, he didn’t control his strength and accidentally slapped her face.
It felt like a slap.
Callie snapped back to reality.
Nelson pried her fingers off him one by one, never holding her.
She looked at the man’s blurry silhouette, like a lurking beast in the darkness.
He suddenly leaned down, his large hand clasping her slender neck, gradually tightening with sudden rage. “Callie, how shameless you are.”
When Nelson stood up, his face was cold and hard. The thin blanket slid off, revealing his firm abs and V-line.
Callie could never understand why this man seemed harmless with his eyes closed but turned into a dangerous wolf the moment he opened them.
“I’m going to sleep in the guest room.” That was the first thing Callie said after regaining her senses.
Nelson found a pack of cigarettes on the bedside table, took one out, and lit it. Through the smoke, he looked at the woman crouching by the sofa.
He let out a light, cold laugh, flicking the ash. It fell like dust-covered memories.
“Get the divorce done quickly. The Oconnor Group will be much better off. I don’t want to drag you down.” That was Callie’s second sentence, spoken softly, perhaps with fear.
Nelson’s temper was truly bad. When he spoke, it was full of menace and intense hostility. “Even if you end up with nothing?”
Callie’s clothes had ridden up slightly, revealing her body curves. On her waist was a tattoo of thorns he had inked, once thinking of keeping her by his side forever.
Callie shivered, her eyelashes lowered. “Even if I end up with nothing.”
Nelson stubbed out his cigarette and gently helped her up from the floor. He was extremely tender. He sat her on his lap, kissing her tattoo. His warm breath, tinged with the scent of tobacco, lightly brushed her neck. Callie stiffened all over; she almost felt as if Nelson would suddenly bite down like a wolf, severing her artery and relishing the blood.
Nelson held her trembling body tightly. His fingers deftly unbuttoned her shirt, moving slowly but elegantly.
“You can get a divorce, but you must leave Ylosea.”
She opened her eyes, overwhelmed by sensation. Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced her neck-he had really bitten down.
“I still need to find Reuben.”
Ignoring the pain, Callie pushed him away.
Nelson’s mouth was stained with her blood, his eyes filled with intense emotions. “Then forget about the divorce.”
“You…”
Callie couldn’t understand him. They had agreed on everything, but now he suddenly didn’t want the divorce anymore.
“Nelson! I’m doing this for your own good!”
When she called his name, there was urgency and helplessness in her voice, tinged with a bit of coquettishness. He paused slightly before sneering coldly. “If you were doing this for my good, we wouldn’t be here today.”
“I’m going to take a shower.”
Nelson went into the bathroom, leaving Callie sitting there alone. She struggled to get up and walked to the mirror. The pain in her neck was impossible to ignore.
After waiting for a while, she suddenly remembered that Reuben had left something at Paucaster Villa that she hadn’t had time to take.
With that thought in mind, Callie limped up the stairs and opened the door.
The smell of dust filled the air. She turned on the light and saw the box sitting on Reuben’s bedside table, untouched.
She breathed a sigh of relief and went forward to pick it up. It was her only keepsake now.
