In the midst of the standoff, Marilyn gracefully stepped out from the crowd. “Davian, what a pleasant surprise. Taking time out of your busy schedule to attend the fashion gala tonight just to dance with Mrs. Oconnor.”
Davian’s eyes sharpened instantly. “Miss Ellison, you are mistaken. That is not my purpose here.”
“I heard that Davian didn’t take on any projects tonight, just did one thing,” Marilyn smiled at everyone. “Everyone saw it, dancing with Mrs. Oconnor.”
Callie stood still, her expression growing increasingly hostile. She couldn’t fathom Marilyn’s sudden appearance and knew it wasn’t out of goodwill.
Davian sneered coldly. “Dancing with her is nothing significant, just a chance to appreciate Miss Marsh’s elegance.”
When he said this, he referred to her as Miss Marsh instead of Mrs. Oconnor, clearly intending to sever ties with Nelson and humiliate Callie.
Everyone understood and laughed in unison.
It was far from friendly.
Marilyn also laughed, feeling the gaze from the corner of the room. She walked over to Callie with a serious expression. “Davian, don’t make things difficult for Miss Marsh. If she throws a tantrum, who knows how many people will come after you.”
Marilyn held Callie’s hand, her sudden attack leaving Callie rigid.
Davian, with a malicious smile, replied, “I didn’t consider that. Thank you, Miss Ellison, for pointing it out.”
Marilyn exchanged a glance with Callie and continued, “After all, she has never been a nameless person.”
The remark was extremely sarcastic. Callie’s face fell as she noticed someone in the distance raising their phone to take pictures.
She wanted to say something but was forcibly silenced by Marilyn, who whispered, “Think carefully if you want to oppose me in this setting.”
Callie’s hand and her desire to retaliate were suppressed.
Until the crowd dispersed, on the hotel balcony, Marilyn and Callie stood opposite each other.
Marilyn raised her glass and poured the wine into a flowerpot. “You’ve been in the spotlight for over a year. How does it feel to have it backfire on you, Callie?”
Callie stood straight, expressionless. “I never did such a thing; there’s nothing I want to say.”
“Nothing?” Marilyn laughed. “Those photos are out there, and you still deny it? If I were Nelson, I’d divorce you immediately.”
It seemed she knew Callie and Nelson hadn’t divorced yet.
Callie stared at Marilyn. It had been a while since they last met, and Marilyn had more fine lines on her face. It seemed the Ellison family’s schemes were numerous.
“We’re already in the process of divorcing, Miss Ellison. No need for your concern.”
Marilyn was taken aback. She hadn’t expected Callie to be so straightforward. “You… you’re really willing to divorce?”
All along, she believed Callie was after Nelson’s power and status.
“Why wouldn’t I be? I don’t want a marriage filled with suspicion. Without Nelson, I can still live well.”
Callie’s candidness made Marilyn sneer momentarily. “No… Nelson won’t agree.”
By now, she understood that Nelson had genuine feelings for Callie.
“I’ve made up my mind. I think this is also your goal. Once the divorce is finalized, I’ll inform you first. Then I’d like to see if you can surpass your sister and truly become Mrs. Oconnor.”
Callie thought about that scenario and found it quite amusing.
“You!” Marilyn raised her hand.
