Callie suddenly squatted down. Forget? How could she forget? These days, she didn’t dare to go out. Was Nelson also talked about like this?
From childhood to adulthood, she had been poor but received a proper education. She did everything she was supposed to do and avoided everything she shouldn’t. She walked this world with a clear conscience, but her feelings seemed cursed.
It was like a well-painted picture suddenly splashed with ink.
She knew too well the destructive power of this incident.
Callie didn’t know how long she had been squatting outside the wall. When she finally came to her senses, she struggled to get up, but her legs were numb. She remained in a strange posture, looking up in a daze, and saw Nelson standing not far away.
He was still dressed in black, his expression unclear, but even from this distance, Callie could feel the discord between them. She didn’t know how long he had been standing there or watching her.
The world lost its color. Callie raised her hand to take off her hat, sweeping all her hair back with a nearly defeated gesture. She turned and walked back to Paucaster Villa.
Nelson did not follow her back to Paucaster Villa.
He no longer restricted her movements. There was no one guarding outside Paucaster Villa. The more he let her be, the more unsettled Callie felt.
Sometimes, people could be driven mad in such desperate situations.
That night, Callie ran away again. She couldn’t let time slip away like this.
As she ran out of Paucaster Villa, Nelson sat in a car not far away. His sleepless nights made him look terrible. Anthony frowned, “Are you just going to let Madam… go out?”
Nelson rested in the back seat, rubbing his temples without speaking. After a long time, he finally raised his hand, “Where is that guy?”
“Still not found.”
“Once you find her, beat her to death.”
“Yes.”
Anthony looked at the exhausted man in the rearview mirror, cursing silently. He had followed Nelson for many years and had seen all kinds of difficult situations but had never seen Nelson like this.
It was as if someone had taken out his ribs and hollowed out his heart. For days, he was like a walking corpse.
Now, the entire Oconnor Group was gloomy. Everyone secretly cursed Callie.
Not to mention the stock market fluctuations, the project had just been listed when such news broke out, causing the stock to plummet to its lowest point. It was Nelson, the man who had been betrayed, who worked tirelessly to help Callie turn the tide.
Callie went to find Regan.
Regan seemed to know she would come and invited her into the room, “Are you okay?”
Callie couldn’t muster any expression, “Can I stay here for two days?”
“Of course, you can,” Regan sighed. “Do you need me to stay with you?”
She didn’t ask anything, knowing what mattered most to Callie.
Callie shook her head.
In a trusted environment, Callie finally felt a bit at ease and curled up to sleep for a while.
But she was awakened by a phone call from Anbusea. Callie was stunned for a moment before answering.
There was silence on the other end for a long time until Callie couldn’t help it, “Jaquan?”
But a familiar yet strange voice replied, “I thought you would call for Nelson.”
Callie was surprised and then shocked, “Jamir!”
“They both wouldn’t be very happy.”
Callie hung up.
