Callie had been washing for a long time, feeling almost numb. Suddenly, she didn’t know why she had to return to Ylosea.
Charlotte hadn’t left and remained downstairs, fixated on something. Kieran walked up to her, crossing his arms with a cold tone, “Miss Charlotte, we have met a few times.”
Charlotte glanced at him, her eyes sparkling. “You are…”
“I am Kieran, Mrs. Oconnor’s driver,” Kieran emphasized the words “Mrs. Oconnor.”
Charlotte understood, “You blame me too.”
“When I first met you, you were Miss Ellison. So, I believe I have the right to say a few words,” Kieran looked directly at her. “It is unacceptable to ruin someone’s marriage.”
His words were straightforward and even embarrassing. Charlotte’s face stiffened, and she took a deep breath. “I didn’t.”
“Then why are you here today?”
“I have a relationship with Nelson that others cannot understand. When something happens, I come to him for support. Is there a problem with that?” Charlotte’s tone was confident. “And if we’re talking about intrusion, it should be your Mrs. Oconnor who is the intruder. As for me, I am the one whose life has been taken away.”
Kieran’s mouth curled slightly, a mix of coldness and pity in his eyes. “I have experienced both prosperous and hard days, but I am different from you. Once something is done, I won’t destroy it.”
Hearing this, Charlotte tightened her grip on her skirt. “I always believe that what is mine will always be mine.”
After saying that, she glanced deeply at Kieran and turned to leave the Paucaster Villa.
Kieran didn’t pay attention to her. He frowned and looked worriedly upstairs.
There was still no sound coming from above.
Callie opened the door and didn’t see Nelson. Just as she took a step forward, someone hugged her from behind. “It’s my fault.”
Callie took a deep breath. “You’re not at fault.”
His warm lips lingered on her neck. “Don’t be angry.”
Callie simply moved aside without saying a word.
The man turned her around to face him, cupping her face and pressing his forehead against hers. “I underestimated Owen’s ruthlessness and didn’t consider your safety, Callie. Tonight, I’m preparing to go to Anbusea to save you.”
“But… it’s already too late, isn’t it? I came back on my own,” Callie’s heart was filled with mixed emotions.
“Nelson, even without you, I could have come back on my own. What’s the point of doing all this?” Callie recalled the scene of him hugging Charlotte earlier, so gentle and unforgettable, and she trembled all over.
Nelson held her tightly. His muscles were so tense that it hurt her. She couldn’t bear it any longer. “Let go of me!”
Nelson grabbed her hand. “Will slapping me make you feel better?”
Callie didn’t even have time to react before he grabbed her hand and slapped his own cheek with it. The sound was loud, and her hand stung along with it.
Callie immediately withdrew her hand. “Nelson!”
“What if I slap myself again?” He grabbed her hand again and slapped himself for the second time. Callie’s pupils dilated, and she clenched her fist, feeling his resistance. Nelson relaxed his grip and embraced her again.
“Callie, since I dared to let you go to Anbusea with Jaquan, I can guarantee that nothing will happen to you.”
