“Is this the phone you mentioned last time?” Hannah looked over and shook her wrist. “Yeah! It’s used to contact bodyguards!” Her voice suddenly became desolate. “But I let them down…”
Callie understood that a child witnessing such a tragic scene was beyond their psychological capacity.
She gently touched her head and cautiously asked, “I lost my phone. Can I borrow this watch to make a call?”
Callie thought Hannah would hesitate, but she generously handed it over. Callie carefully examined the inside and found no bugs. Owen wouldn’t be so twisted as to bug even a child’s phone watch.
He probably didn’t expect Callie to use the phone watch to contact the outside.
She trembled almost uncontrollably, as if she saw a glimmer of hope. She quickly dialed a number, praying that Nelson would answer.
After about three rings, the call was disconnected.
Callie was surprised but didn’t give up. She continued dialing, and finally, someone answered on the other end, with an impatient female voice saying, “No thanks, I don’t buy insurance.”
The call was disconnected again before Callie could say a word.
She stood still, her mind momentarily blank. Why did Charlotte always answer Nelson’s private calls?
Clutching the watch, she couldn’t recover for a while. The suffering she had endured these days felt like it was choking her throat, with no outlet for release.
“Callie… what’s wrong with you?” Hannah noticed something was off and tugged at Callie’s clothes.
“It’s nothing. Sister will make another call.” Callie comforted herself in her mind. Nelson must be busy, and Charlotte was his assistant, so naturally, she would answer his calls.
This time, she called Kieran. He answered quickly and sounded alert. “Who is this?”
Hearing the familiar voice, tears welled up in Callie’s eyes. “Kieran, it’s me.”
“Callie!” There was a thud on the other end, as if someone had fallen off the bed. “Finally, I managed to reach you. Are you okay? How is it over there?”
Callie didn’t have time to explain everything. “Not good. I’m trapped in a place called Southbridge and can’t get out. It’s not convenient to talk right now.”
“Don’t worry, we couldn’t find you and Jaquan, but we’ve contacted Mr. Oconnor. He’s furious and has dispatched people. Owen won’t be able to hold on to you when they arrive.”
Kieran quickly reassured her.
After hearing this, Callie didn’t feel comforted. She didn’t intend to compare, but after hearing Jaquan willing to sacrifice himself to save her, she couldn’t feel happy anymore.
What is Nelson doing now? Doesn’t he worry about her at all?
“… Mr. Oconnor has an important project to handle, but I believe he’ll come immediately after finishing it!”
Callie closed her eyes and said, “Be ready to pick me up outside!” before hanging up the phone.
She crouched down and put the watch back on Hannah’s wrist. “Thank you, Hannah. Promise me that you won’t tell anyone about what happened today, okay? It’s our little secret.”
Hannah obediently nodded. “Pinkie promise!”
“Pinkie promise!”
As Callie was about to leave, Hannah suddenly asked, “Callie, do you want to leave?”
She froze, unsure of what expression to show. Regardless, this was Owen’s daughter.
“Callie, I know the way out. I can take you.” Hannah spoke in a childish voice but with an extraordinary calmness. “There used to be a lady trapped here too, and I helped her escape.”
