Callie rested in the hotel for a day. At night, she received a call from Jaquan.
He got straight to the point: “Want to know more clues? Come with me.”
Callie didn’t understand what he was up to, but now in Anbusea, Jaquan was the only person she could rely on.
Jaquan told her to come to Dragonstone.
Callie arrived alone and saw Jaquan dressed like a male model, standing flamboyantly at the entrance with a group of underlings behind him, all carrying boxes.
She smirked, “Which lady have you taken a fancy to? Are you here to buy her freedom?”
Jaquan placed one hand on her shoulder, “I hit Mike with a bottle yesterday. Today, I need to apologize.”
Callie listened.
“You, the culprit, need to be there too.”
Callie turned to leave.
Jaquan grabbed her and smiled, “Do me a favor. I told them you’re my woman. My apology needs to be sincere.”
Callie didn’t understand, “If you knew this would happen, why didn’t you hold back yesterday?”
“I wanted to, but no one gave me an out.”
“I did!”
“Did you?”
“…”
Since marrying Nelson, Callie’s acting skills had become impeccable. Now, she could perform effortlessly.
She took off her jacket, revealing a cool outfit underneath, and quickly got into character, holding Jaquan’s arm as they walked in.
“Honey, you must apologize properly to Mr. Mack today. Yesterday’s incident was indeed your fault.”
Jaquan was pleased, “Say it a few more times.”
Callie glared at him.
Upstairs, a large private room was prepared. Mike was already seated at the head position, accompanied by several people, including Sullivan from yesterday.
As they entered, Mike’s sarcastic voice rang out. “What a show. Inviting someone to dinner and being late.”
“Mr. Mack, I heard that. It was indeed our fault.” Jaquan stepped forward, pulled out a chair but didn’t sit down. Instead, he poured himself three glasses of pure white liquor.
“I’ll punish myself.”
He drank all three in one go.
Someone exclaimed, “Mr. Scott can hold his liquor!”
Mike sneered, “Cheap tricks for beggars.”
His head was still bandaged, looking somewhat comical.
Callie picked up a glass of wine and walked over with a smile, “It was indeed our fault yesterday. Jaquan and I are both here. With so many witnesses, we’ll accept any punishment.”
Mike scrutinized her with distrust, “Reuben’s daughter became Jaquan’s lover? Does he know?”
The words were harsh. Callie suppressed her temper and whispered, “He’s missing. When he returns, I’ll cut ties with Jaquan.”
Everyone laughed. Jaquan laughed too, but their laughter was different. Mike looked disdainful: “Once you’re in our circle and hear so much, even if you want to leave, you probably can’t.”
Callie’s heart sank, “Then show us the way? Jaquan and I are listening.”
Mike lit a cigar and took a puff before looking at Jaquan, “Kneel and bow three times. Yesterday’s incident will be over. I’ll take your goods.”
Hearing this, Callie straightened up and looked at Jaquan with some concern.
His smile gradually faded, “Mr. Mack’s request doesn’t seem excessive. Kneeling down for so many benefits.”
