He smirked, “Weren’t you quite arrogant at the Sky Pavilion just now?”
“… But you didn’t give me any respect either.”
Callie softened immediately, and Nelson’s heart softened along with her. He held her close, “There is only one Mrs. Oconnor.”
The stubble on his chin pricked her face, “But there can be many lovers.”
“There are none.” He kissed her gently, “Not a single one.”
As he kissed her, Callie became increasingly flustered. Feeling his arousal against her leg, she suddenly snapped back to reality and sat up straight, “Forget it…”
Just when things were heating up, she stopped. Nelson frowned, “Callie.”
“… We haven’t found Reuben. I can’t focus on anything else.” Callie sighed, her face full of melancholy.
Because they hadn’t found Reuben, she couldn’t even be bothered to pursue the matter with Charlotte. As long as he wasn’t emotionally involved, whatever plans he had or where he placed her didn’t matter.
The heat from Nelson’s body dissipated completely. He suddenly asked, “Do you know about Reuben’s past?”
His question… “You didn’t find out?”
“I could only find records from after he arrived in Ylosea.”
That was also when Callie began to have memories.
“What about before that?”
Callie understood, “You also think Reuben’s disappearance is related to his past?”
“My men went to find Yamilet today, but she has also disappeared.”
“… Why?” Callie widened her eyes, feeling a chill run through her body.
Was there really something unknown behind all this?
Nelson took out his cigarette case again, wanting to light another one, but Callie raised her hand to stop him, “That’s two already.”
“… Sorry.” Nelson put it away.
“I don’t know much, but I do know that he seemed to have lived in Anbusea before.”
“Anbusea.” Nelson repeated the name. Anbusea was a dead end. “I’ll send someone there tomorrow.”
“Take me with you.” Callie gripped his hand tightly, “You know I can’t be at ease until we find Reuben. If I go with you, I might remember something.”
Nelson played with his lighter, the flame flickering as he scrutinized her, “It’s dangerous.”
Callie leaned closer, “What, you don’t have confidence in his own men?”
He scoffed, “Witch.”
That was a yes.
Nelson remembered something, “Jamir is in Anbusea. You might seek his help.”
With a hint of sarcasm, Callie replied, “I’ll look for him if necessary.”
He set down the lighter with a crisp sound, a warning, “Callie.”
She smiled sweetly, “Just kidding.”
The next day, Nelson had Kieran lead a team of over ten people to accompany Callie to Ylosea.
He still had the Oconnor Group to manage and couldn’t leave easily.
Callie understood.
At the airport, he reminded her, “You can trust these people completely.”
Callie nodded.
“Safety first.”
Just before boarding the plane, a flight attendant approached Callie, “Miss Marsh, a gentleman wishes to see you.”
Callie frowned.
Kieran stepped forward but was stopped by her, “I’ll go. Wait outside.”
The flight attendant led her into a VIP lounge. The man sitting on the sofa held a copy of the Ylosea Morning Post, obscuring his face.
The door closed.
Callie’s sharp eyes noticed the cane placed beside him and immediately understood, “Mr. Ellison, you wanted to see me.”
The newspaper was lowered to reveal Ahmad’s face.
“Smart.”
