The next day, the weather was clear, and Dale’s case went to trial.
Callie stood in the morning sunlight, tying a tie for the man. “Will it be tough?”
“Just a formality, it will end quickly.”
“How many years of imprisonment will he get?”
Nelson slightly curved his lips. “He’s a man of high status. Even if he stays inside for ten years, apart from not being able to move freely, he will be well taken care of in all aspects.”
Callie was puzzled. A person appeared in her mind-Jaquan’s father. Was it the same for him?
“Then…”
“My uncle has never experienced hardship in his life. Going to prison in his old age to retire is quite unique.”
Nelson stood in the sunlight, smiling as he spoke, but it sent chills down one’s spine.
Callie thought of Shamar again. He hadn’t appeared for a while. Where could he be now?
She saw Nelson off to the car. As she closed the door, she only saw Kieran. “It’s rare; Anthony didn’t come today.”
Nelson patted her shoulder without saying much.
In court, it was just a formality. Nelson attended as a family member, sitting in the audience, resting his eyes.
The lawyers from both sides clashed, filling the room with jargon that hurt the ears.
About two hours later, the judge announced the verdict.
Dale was sentenced to three years and nine months.
Nelson slowly opened his eyes and saw Dale glaring at him viciously. His clothes and white hair made him lose all his former commanding presence.
Nelson curled his lips at him. The grudge with Oconnor Group was finally settled.
Seeing this smile, Dale was enraged and struggled madly. Pointing at Nelson with his handcuffed hands, he shouted, “You ungrateful bastard! How dare you send your own uncle to prison? Ungrateful! Just wait, Nelson, you won’t die a good death!”
The prison guards immediately stepped forward to restrain him. “Order in the court!”
Dale spat fiercely in Nelson’s direction.
Nelson remained motionless, sitting calmly and watching him go mad.
The victor never needed to say much.
Dale was taken away, and the court session ended.
Kieran approached and whispered something in Nelson’s ear. Nelson then stood up, buttoning his suit as he walked out.
Lucia waited outside.
Half of her body bathed in sunlight, the other half in shadow, her expression unfriendly.
“Is there something you need?” Nelson stopped.
“Dale is in prison. Am I next?” Lucia asked with a mocking look in her eyes.
Nelson withdrew his gaze without any emotion. “You’re very self-aware.”
“Whether you admit it or not, I am your mother. If you dare, you will bear the name of matricide. As the executor of Oconnor Group, you wouldn’t want that stain on your name.”
Lucia’s voice was cold and emotionless, filled with wariness towards her son.
He was ruthless. She hadn’t expected him to really send his uncle to prison.
Nelson raised his hand and gestured inside. “I’ve sent him in. Do you think I’d hesitate to do the same to you?”
Lucia shivered under his cold aura.
“Do you really dare?”
Nelson showed impatience and looked into the distance. By his car stood a slender figure.
He suddenly said, “Maevelyn is back, did you know?”
Lucia was stunned, her brows furrowing. “Is the rumor true?”
“After you abandoned me, it was that woman who saved me.”
