Chapter 696: Is There a Possibility of a DNA Error?

The weather was nice today, and spring had arrived. Callie was bored at home, so she decided to visit the studio.
Everyone had returned to work, but no one expected an inspection so soon after resuming. The work enthusiasm was not very high.
When Callie arrived, Eliza was complaining to Litzy, “Litzy, we’re just a small design team. We had no idea Scott Group would cut corners. How could this investigation fall on us?”
Jade was printing something nearby and chimed in, “Exactly, we were the first to discover it and even tried to stop it. Callie almost got herself involved. Who knew they would dare to work at night?”
Nelson wouldn’t let the Scott Group news die down so easily.
After the New Year, the news had spread widely.
“Anyway, we have a clear conscience. They won’t find anything on us,” Litzy reassured. She looked up and saw Callie walking in, quickly approaching her.
She pulled Callie aside, “I heard rumors that you and Jaquan are in cahoots. Is that true?”
Callie sighed helplessly and walked towards the office. Regan was also there today, “We’ve worked together for years. Do you think I’m that kind of person?”
Litzy pouted, “True.”
“What about you and Jaquan? Is there something going on?” Regan asked leisurely as she poured herself a cup of coffee and turned around slowly.
Callie threw her handbag at her, “Stop spreading nonsense and causing trouble for me.”
Regan laughed and sat on the sofa, crossing her legs, “I heard that on New Year’s Eve, you went to the hospital with Jaquan. And as far as I know, Nelson found out a few days later, which means you didn’t come clean.”
“Rumors spread so quickly,” Callie said as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
She took a sip, “But why didn’t you tell me Maevelyn was back?”
Her gaze was sharp, with no hint of innocence.
Regan met her eyes for a few seconds before bursting into laughter, “You saw Jaquan, didn’t he tell you?”
Callie got angry at the mention of this, “He told me, but he didn’t tell me Maevelyn was Charlotte.”
Hearing this, Regan laughed even harder, slapping her thigh and almost out of breath, “I just wanted to see your reaction. How was it? Surprised? I can imagine your expression.”
Callie picked up a cushion and threw it at her.
“It’s not my fault. Sienna went to Ylosea and came back saying she found Maevelyn. Who could be sure if it was true?” Regan explained, “On New Year’s Eve, Ahmad was happy but immediately did a DNA test. The whole family stayed up all night, including your husband.”
Callie’s face remained stern.
“No one expected the result to be true. By then it was already morning, and Nelson had left. I thought he would tell you…” Regan’s expression turned playful, “Apparently not.”
Callie picked up another cushion and threw it again.
“Those few days were so entertaining. I laugh every time I think of Isaac’s face.”
He couldn’t compete with Marilyn before, and now another favored daughter had returned. His position seemed even more useless. Ahmad probably would never give him real power in his lifetime.
Callie laughed along but then her smile faded, “Is there any possibility of a DNA error?”
No matter how she thought about it, it seemed too coincidental that it was Charlotte.
