Chapter 685: All Guesses Coming True

Through the gap, she saw Nelson and that woman supporting Grandpa as they left together.
She could only see their backs. The woman wore a white dress with a linen shawl draped over her shoulders, and her black hair was elegantly pinned up with a butterfly clip. She exuded a refined aura.
A woman of such grace should indeed return to the Ellison family.
Callie felt a sharp sting in her eyes. The sight of her standing beside Nelson was a perfect match, just like in her dreams.
They turned out of the corridor, and before getting into the car, Nelson and Maevelyn stood facing each other. They exchanged a few words, and there was a sense of nervousness about returning home.
Finally, Maevelyn suddenly stood on tiptoe to adjust his collar.
Callie couldn’t read Nelson’s expression and didn’t know if he was pleased or displeased.
But he didn’t stop her, so he probably enjoyed it.
Callie closed her eyes, her heart almost suffocating. She didn’t want to witness such interactions anymore.
All her guesses seemed to be coming true.
Jaquan walked out slowly with his hands in his pockets. “If I were you, I’d go out there right now.”
“But you don’t seem to have that kind of confidence.”
Callie finally opened her eyes, her gaze red but her tone still calm. “The most important thing between a husband and wife is trust. He is my husband and my teammate. I can’t put him in an embarrassing situation.”
At this point, she didn’t actually think Nelson was wrong.
Maevelyn was his obsession, and her return fulfilled his wish. Bringing Grandpa to see her also fulfilled Grandpa’s wish.
And Maevelyn was originally the eldest daughter of the Ellison family; she had just been lost. Returning to the Ellison family was perfectly normal.
Everything seemed to end happily, and she couldn’t really blame anyone.
Jaquan smiled at this. “You trust him, but does he trust you? I bet he hasn’t brought this up with you voluntarily.”
Callie responded quickly. “He’s afraid I’ll overthink it.”
“Don’t you overthink it when you see through it yourself?”
Callie fell silent at his words.
“The Ellison family will consider Marilyn’s reputation and won’t widely publicize Maevelyn’s return. This matter will only spread within certain circles. Nelson not telling you might just be his way of distancing himself, leaving room for future explanations.”
Callie glared at him. “You think everyone’s like you.”
Jaquan raised an eyebrow. “Don’t cry when you fall.”
At that moment, Nelson sent the two off but suddenly turned back for some reason. As he approached, Mollie appeared in the distance. “Mr. Oconnor?”
Nelson stopped. “Why are you here?”
Mollie smiled. “Mr. Oconnor, you always seem to be unkind to me.”
Nelson had little interest in what kind of woman Bridger found, but he had doubts because Bridger had sacrificed so much for this woman.
“You’re mistaken. I am equally unkind to everyone.”
Mollie’s smile widened. “What about Mrs. Oconnor?”
“… She’s an exception.”
“I’ve helped her a lot. During that incident in Afupshire, I got her to the hospital in time. Otherwise, you might not have a wife now.” Mollie stepped closer. “Just for that, you should be nicer to me, don’t you think?”
Nelson rubbed his brow, his tone softening. “Thank you.”
“I’m not here to ask for a favor.” Mollie straightened up as a cat ran over. She picked it up and stroked it. “I just wanted to say that since you’ve regained something precious, you should cherish it more.”
The cat looked pitifully at Nelson.
With that, Mollie said, “My cat has been restless lately, running around everywhere. If it disturbs your peace, please don’t hold it against me.”
