“Ask.”
Callie had words on the tip of her tongue but didn’t know how to phrase them.
Anyone who offended Nelson would eventually face unpleasant consequences. Even Dale was no exception, let alone Charlotte, who had crossed his line multiple times.
Asking about it would seem like jealousy. Callie didn’t feel threatened by her, so she decided not to ask.
A tacit understanding was fine too.
“Nothing, it’s still about Dale. You’ve dealt with him, but what about the Ellison family?” Callie smoothly changed the topic.
Nelson closed his eyes and pressed his fingers against his brow. “Ahmad’s spinal condition has flared up. He’s still in the hospital. If his people find out, this New Year won’t be peaceful.”
Marilyn had not been in power long and lacked influence within the Ellison family. Many of the elders didn’t respect her. Now that her supporter was down, Marilyn would have a hard time.
Not just her, Jaquan wouldn’t have it easy either.
This opportunity was a double-edged sword for Nelson, allowing him to handle both issues at once.
The Ellison family and Scott Group couldn’t be toppled quickly, but adding some trouble for them was good enough.
However, Callie suddenly thought of something. She looked down at Nelson’s closed eyes and asked, “Ahmad’s sudden illness at this critical moment, did you have anything to do with it?”
Nelson opened his eyes abruptly, like a lion that had been watching its prey. He smirked sarcastically. “He’s disposed to a sudden bout. How can it have anything to do with me?”
Callie understood. It seemed there was someone in the Ellison family working for Nelson.
He pulled her into his arms, and she pressed her fingertip against his thin lips. “Forget about Marilyn. No matter what, Ahmad is the father of your old acquaintance. If she finds out what you’ve done, she’ll be heartbroken.”
Nelson laughed at her sarcastic tone. “What, are you jealous?”
“Why would I be jealous? You were just a kid when you got separated. I wouldn’t take it to heart.” Callie rolled her eyes.
Nelson’s smile widened. “You are jealous.”
Callie got anxious. “It’s not like only you’re allowed to get jealous.”
“Quite the wordsmith.” He stood up and pulled Callie’s hand as they walked out of the study. “Next time, don’t brew Earl Grey tea. I don’t like it.”
Callie’s palm suddenly felt cold as she remembered that Earl Grey was Jaquan’s favorite.
“You came back very late today.” Fortunately, Nelson didn’t seem to pursue the matter further and instead tightened his grip on her hand. “Why?”
“Oh, the construction site was too busy. Supervising the work often takes until midnight.”
That was true.
“Do you need me to pick you up from now on?”
“You’ve arranged a driver for me, no need to trouble yourself.” Callie felt a bit guilty and didn’t dare tell him that the project belonged to Scott Group.
If he knew, he wouldn’t let her go there. But it was the result of the entire studio’s efforts.
Recently, Nelson had been busy too, so he didn’t insist when Callie said no.
“Tomorrow morning, come with me to visit Ahmad in the hospital. After that, I have to go on a business trip.”
Callie clung to his arm. “Where to?”
“Inspecting a branch office. The first stop should be Anbusea.”
Callie vaguely understood and suddenly remembered something Jaquan had said. “I heard Anbusea is picturesque. When will you take me there?”
“Tomorrow? Put your work aside and accompany me on the trip.” Entering the master bedroom, Nelson raised his hand to close the door.
