Anthony and Kieran arrived shortly after, anxiously asking, “Are you alright, madam?”
Callie brushed the light snow off Nelson’s head. “I’m fine, I’ll be better soon.”
“Are you hungry?” Nelson asked, still crouching on the ground, looking up at her.
Callie touched her stomach. “After playing all morning, I am indeed hungry.”
“Then let’s go eat.”
Nelson helped Callie up. They were at a large hotel with a five-star restaurant that many wealthy young people who came to ski liked to visit.
Callie had a fulfilling day.
At night, as they lay together, Nelson suddenly mentioned, “It’s the end of the year. The senior executives from the branch will return to Ylosea for their reports. You will join me in receiving them.”
Callie immediately opened her eyes. “This is Oconnor Group’s internal business. It’s not appropriate for you to bring me along.”
“You are my wife, why wouldn’t it be appropriate?” Nelson stroked her hair. “It’s fine, just meet them. You’ll see them again in the future.”
He probably didn’t realize how reassuring his words were. Callie nodded suspiciously.
For this reception, Nelson didn’t let Callie worry about any details. She just needed to be present.
They first went to the airport to receive the executives.
Callie greeted everyone politely. Each person addressed her as “Mrs. Oconnor,” showing utmost respect.
Although they knew of her existence, Nelson had never formally introduced her to them before. Now, they could guess his intentions of making it certain Callie was the mistress of the Oconnor family.
Naturally, they were very respectful.
Callie herself seemed unaware of Nelson’s good intentions.
He casually asked her, “Do you know who these people are?”
Callie didn’t know and looked puzzled.
These were the top leaders of various departments within Oconnor Group. Half of the company’s talents all gathered here. They would play crucial roles in the company’s long-term success.
Such important people were meeting her today. If word got out, the media would have material for a week.
Nelson just smiled without saying anything.
The reception was arranged at a seaside hot spring resort. Callie then understood why Nelson said there was no need to worry.
It was only upon arriving that she discovered Marilyn was also there.
Despite the cold weather, she wore a short skirt and waited flamboyantly in the lobby, looking every bit like the host. “Nelson, you’re finally here. I happened to be working here and heard that people from Oconnor Group would be coming, so I waited in advance!”
She winked at Callie as if greeting her.
Callie saw it as a provocation and felt a pang of frustration. Why was Marilyn everywhere she went?
Perhaps sensing her mood drop, Nelson gave Marilyn a look. “Newly married and already working, it seems Jaquan isn’t treating you well.”
Marilyn’s smile stiffened slightly.
With one sentence, he clarified their relationship.
Everyone could easily guess the meaning behind his actions. He was telling them and Mrs. Oconnor that there was nothing between him and Marilyn.
Callie understood Nelson’s effort to draw a clear line and wanted to laugh.
Marilyn could only suppress her dissatisfaction and said, “Jaquan is here too. We should get together sometime.”
“Alright.”
Nelson held Callie’s soft hand and led her to one of the rooms in the resort. The interior was decorated in a classical style with several hot spring pools emitting steam and a large bed nearby.
Callie liked the place very much. “It’s so comfortable.”
