Chapter 611: Waiting for Her Divorce

Jamir handed the delicately packaged breakfast to Callie. “About yesterday, I apologize.”
She smiled. “Apologize for what?”
Jamir frowned, disliking her distant attitude.
“Yesterday at the meeting, I used you to corner Nelson. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and the first thing I did was use you. I’m sorry,” he said sincerely.
He could have overlooked her mistake but didn’t.
Callie took a sip of the still-warm soy milk, feeling its warmth spread through her.
“It’s okay, I’m used to it,” Callie laughed lightly, half-mocking.
Used to being used.
Her casual tone couldn’t hide her loneliness.
Jamir frowned slightly at her response. “Callie, I had no choice.”
In that situation, he had no other option.
Callie’s smile was radiant. “You don’t need to apologize to me. You know the stakes in business. You should understand Nelson well; he’s never one to suffer losses. Just be prepared for his retaliation.”
She spoke with a hint of humor, laying out the reality.
Jamir gazed at her. The current Callie was no longer a delicate flower but a rose with many thorns, sharp and defensive.
It was known that Nelson was indeed preparing to move against the Quinn Group. But Jamir was unfazed. “Trust me, the Quinn Group has never been inferior to the Oconnor Group. Give me some time, and Nelson won’t pose any threat to me.”
Callie placed the food back, somewhat indifferent. “Hmm, I believe you.”
Jamir had always been excellent; she knew that. But now, she no longer saw him as an object of admiration.
“The scarf I gave you, I remember you threw it in the trash. So why pretend to be affectionate now, Jamir?” Callie suddenly said softly.
She remembered clearly that after their fallout, they almost spitefully severed all ties. Passing by a trash can, she had seen that scarf.
“You misunderstood me back then,” Jamir explained. Sunlight filtered through the car window, reflecting off his golden cufflinks, looking very luxurious. “I wanted to explain, but I knew you wouldn’t believe me. I want you to understand that what happened back then wasn’t my intention.”
Morning light fell on her face, her lips still stained with soy milk.
Jamir’s heart raced. He reached out to wipe it off for her.
Callie dodged.
His hand froze awkwardly in mid-air, but he didn’t feel embarrassed. He handed her a tissue instead.
Callie didn’t take it and asked. “Jamir, why did you come back?”
Jamir’s smile faltered slightly.
They were both smart people and understood the true meaning behind the words.
He clenched the tissue. “For you.”
Callie’s heart skipped a beat; that was really his answer.
“I don’t want to see the person I like in another man’s arms anymore. I want to pursue you again.”
His honesty was almost frightening.
Callie wasn’t a fool, but she found it laughable. “Jamir, do you know what you’re saying?”
“I want to rekindle our relationship. I firmly believe I can take better care of you than Nelson.”
Jamir spoke with determination, half-playful and half-serious. His heart raced in the morning light.
Callie’s face grew colder, her anger rising.
“I know you hate me and blame me, but it’s okay. I can wait until you divorce and fall in love with me again. I’m not saying this to get a response from you.”
