When this was mentioned, Regan’s expression turned a bit strange. She nodded, “Yes, Dr. Quinn is quite a good person.”
Quite a good person… Callie almost laughed. This adjective would never fit Jamir. When he wanted to pretend, he could easily deceive people.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been fooled by him back then.
Thinking about their last encounter, Callie suddenly lost her appetite. She didn’t know why Jamir had returned at this time or what he was planning to do. She just hoped that in the days to come, she wouldn’t have to see him again.
In the following days, Callie rested in the hospital and did not see Nelson again.
The day before she was discharged, an unexpected visitor arrived in her room, Iyana.
She brought a large group of people with her, claiming they were there to visit. But it was likely that photos of her visit had already taken and arranged to be sent out as press releases.
It was all for a good reputation.
“Aren’t you here to see me? What are you looking at?” Callie’s clear voice brought Iyana back to reality. She forced a smile, “Are you alright?”
Callie found it amusing. “After so many days, what could still be wrong? If you were really worried about me, you should have come earlier.”
“I was too busy the past few days…”
“Seems like you’re not busy now.” Callie spoke without any reservations. There was no need to be polite to her.
Iyana clenched her hands. Ever since Jaquan blacklisted her, she indeed had no work and was not busy at all…
Her eyes were filled with hostility as she looked at Callie. She couldn’t understand why such an ordinary woman could attract the attention of both Nelson and Jaquan.
But for the sake of her future, she had to humble herself before Callie.
Jaquan had given strict orders, and she couldn’t think of any way to redeem herself other than seeking Callie’s help.
“Mrs. Oconnor, I really didn’t mean it that day. I called you over simply because Jaquan likes you. I was jealous and wanted you to suffer a bit. I didn’t expect it to cause such harm. Can you be magnanimous and let me off this time?” Iyana pleaded.
Callie listened and after a moment replied, “Let you off? I haven’t done anything to you.”
Iyana was on the verge of tears. “Please speak to Mr. Scott for me. I really can’t lose this job. I swear I’ll behave from now on!”
Callie found it amusing, “Iyana, I think you’re mistaken. You shouldn’t be asking me; you should go to Mrs. Scott. Her words carry more weight than mine.”
Iyana immediately recalled the scene of herself groveling at Marilyn’s feet like a dog…
“Callie, I’m begging you. Help me out. Didn’t you drag me into this as well? I got a fever too!”
Callie nodded thoughtfully, “But what does that have to do with me?”
“I…”
Seeing that this approach wasn’t working, Iyana glanced around and, not seeing Nelson, breathed a sigh of relief.
She tried another tactic, “We’re both women in this industry. Can’t you give me a way out? How did you get to where you are? Others might not know, but I can guess pretty accurately.”
Callie didn’t understand and frowned.
Iyana whispered, “I heard you used to work at Oconnor Group. You and Nelson started from there, right?”
Hearing that name made Callie inexplicably irritated. From the tone alone, she could tell what Iyana implied-how Nelson always attracted attention wherever he went.
“What is it?”
