Felicity swallowed hard, trying to steady herself before continuing, “I know you’ve been comforting me by saying I’m beautiful! Thank you! I’m really happy to hear your compliments, and it means a lot to me. You’re a good person, and I’m sure you’ll get your reward for it!”
“But, as for my face, I think it’s pretty good. It’s what my parents gave me, and I’m very satisfied with myself!”
Kayden Scott was left speechless.
At this point, Felicity still thought he was some kind of cosmetic surgeon trying to sell her a treatment?
Did she really think his costs would be that high?
He had fought six hundred people, killed a few, just to “improve” Felicity’s appearance?
Her mind was incredibly pure, Kayden thought to himself.
He decided to clarify the situation. Leaning closer to Felicity, he said seriously, “I’m not here to sell you cosmetic surgery. I can actually treat the birthmark on your face, and I won’t charge you anything.”
“Really?” Felicity’s eyes went wide with excitement. She looked up at him, her gaze full of hope.
Kayden nodded, confirming, “Yes.”
“What do you want then? What can I give you?” Felicity asked, eager to return the favor.
Kayden was a bit exasperated but answered, “I don’t want anything. I just want you to live a good life.”
The moment she heard this, Felicity’s face turned bright red. She couldn’t look him in the eye and muttered softly, “You’re so kind.”
She didn’t understand the deeper meaning behind his words. To her, Kayden was just a kind-hearted person who helped others without expecting anything in return.
But in reality, Kayden’s words had a much darker implication. If Felicity’s true identity was exposed, many powerful figures would come after her, seeking to claim her as their own. He didn’t know how long she would survive under such threats, but he hoped she would live a long life, free from harm.
“Can you really cure the birthmark on my face?” Felicity asked again, her eyes full of anticipation.
Kayden nodded. “Of course. Why would I lie to you?”
A smile broke out across Felicity’s face as she raised her hand to shake his. “I’m Felicity. I still don’t know your name.”
Kayden looked at her, and then extended his hand, shaking hers gently. “Kayden Scott.”
“Kayden Scott!” Felicity repeated the name softly, then suddenly, with complete sincerity, she bowed deeply to him, saying, “Thank you! Thank you for helping me! Thank you for helping my mother!”
Kayden simply shook his head in silent amusement, not responding.
Felicity then lifted her head and looked at him thoughtfully. She suddenly remembered something and asked, “By the way, did you really take down all those six hundred people? I was so scared, I closed my eyes and didn’t dare to look!”
Kayden didn’t hesitate in answering, “Yes.”
Felicity’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. She covered her mouth in exaggerated shock and asked, “Are you… are you someone who knows martial arts? Like in the TV dramas?”
Kayden, without missing a beat, replied, “Yes, I’ve learned a few things.”
Felicity’s face transformed, her expression becoming even more animated as she asked him a flurry of questions, curious about his martial arts abilities.
Kayden answered each one, though his responses were curt. Still, he patiently indulged her, showing a side of himself that was rarely seen. He wasn’t just intrigued by her personality; he genuinely wanted to protect her.
She shouldn’t be like this, and she shouldn’t have this kind of life!
Felicity said that this was one of her rare trips to the city. She didn’t like the city, saying it was very noisy. She preferred quiet places and mentioned that her hometown was a peaceful place.
Felicity, who usually kept to herself and was deeply self-conscious about her appearance, felt free to express herself around Kayden. For the first time, she didn’t feel ashamed of her face. Kayden never judged her, never made her feel bad about herself.
His kindness reminded her of her mother, who was the only one who had ever listened to her like this.
Soon, they arrived at a crossroads. Kayden stopped walking and stood by the side of the road. Felicity, sensing something was off, noticed his pause and realized what was happening. “Are you leaving?” she asked, her voice tinged with sadness.
Good encounters always have to come to an end. Kayden Scott stood here, waiting for the car, and it seemed that the time for their farewell had come.
In the end, she could only dream of the kind of love found in novels. How could the man standing before her possibly be her love?
Looking at Kayden Scott, though her heart was reluctant to part, she knew it was time to say goodbye. This man had helped her receive the money and brought her a miracle, like something out of a science fiction story. For Felicity, that should be enough.
She didn’t dare to ask for more, such as hoping that he could cure the birthmark on her face and make her beautiful.
He was a good person, someone who never put her down but instead told her she was beautiful.
Even if it wasn’t entirely sincere, he was the only man who ever said she was beautiful.
As she struggled with the emotions bubbling up inside her, she finally managed to say, “Thank you. Thank you for being with me today.”
She wanted to ask if they could meet again, but she didn’t dare to ask for too much. After all, for someone like her-ordinary and unremarkable-today had already been enough.
Just then, Kayden hailed a taxi.
When the car stopped, Kayden turned to her and said, “Get in, let’s go!”
Felicity, still dazed, blinked in surprise. “What?”
“Don’t you need to go to the hospital to see your mother?” Kayden urged.
Felicity’s face lit up with disbelief. “You’re going with me?”
Kayden nodded, his expression serious. “Yes, I’m coming with you to see your mother.”
Felicity’s heart skipped a beat.
Could this be considered “meeting the parents”?
Had their relationship progressed too quickly? She hadn’t expected things to move this fast. Just moments ago, she had been worried about parting ways, and now she was feeling a rush of nervousness about introducing him to her mother.
“Kayden Scott, you really want to come with me?” Felicity asked, her face flushed with embarrassment.
The taxi driver, growing impatient, honked the horn. “Are you getting in or not? If not, I’m leaving!”
“Yes!” Kayden replied firmly. “Let’s go!”
They climbed into the car together, and once again, they were in the confined space of the taxi. This time, Felicity’s heart was racing even faster than before.
“Kayden Scott, are you sure you want to meet my mother?” she asked nervously.
Kayden nodded again. “Yes. We’ll take care of your mother’s health and get her treated. You’ll be able to leave this place soon. Vernon isn’t a peaceful place, and you need to return to the place you’ve been living.”
