Kayden Scott stared coldly at Bruno and asked, “No more partnership, huh?”
Bruno immediately shook his head frantically, stammering, “No, no, no! No partnership! No partnership!”
Partnership?
Now, swearing an oath of partnership could cost him his life!
This was not someone he could afford to make a partner!
Kayden Scott nodded slightly and said, “Alright. Looks like you know when to bow out. Anyway, this money’s dirty, but I’ll take it.”
Without further hesitation, he shoved the money into his pocket.
Bruno felt a pang of embarrassment. He took the money and still got called out for it being dirty! It was like eating a full meal and then complaining that the food wasn’t tasty.
But the truth was, the money was dirty. Whether it was from gambling winnings or protection fees, none of it was earned honestly. Every single penny was dirty.
Seeing that Kayden Scott had accepted the money, Bruno figured he had narrowly escaped death. He had dodged a bullet!
His stern expression softened a little. He grinned slyly at Kayden Scott and said, “I’ve got something else to show you. Wait right here, I’ll be right back.”
With that, Bruno hurried upstairs.
A few moments later, he returned, escorting a heavily made-up woman.
After leading her to Kayden Scott’s side, he chuckled and said, “Sir, I met this woman last night. If you’re interested, she’s all yours now! I promise, she’s very obedient.”
As he spoke, Bruno gave a provocative look toward Felicity, challenging her with his eyes.
Kayden Scott raised an eyebrow and looked the woman over. She wasn’t much to look at-just an average face with a decent body. Without the makeup, she’d be just another plain woman.
He couldn’t help but feel insulted.
Bruno’s intention was clear: he thought Kayden Scott’s woman was too ugly, so he figured he’d offer this one up instead.
Felicity immediately understood what Bruno was trying to do. Her hand instinctively went to cover her face, and she quietly watched Kayden Scott, waiting for his reaction.
The woman was certainly prettier than her-there was no denying that. At least her face didn’t have a red mark like Felicity’s, and she didn’t look as… plain.
Any man with eyes would choose the woman in front of him, right? Felicity wasn’t sure if Kayden Scott would be swayed by this woman’s “beauty.”
Kayden Scott snorted coldly and asked, “Are you insulting my taste in women?”
Bruno blinked, first glancing at the woman by his side, then looking at Felicity standing next to Kayden Scott.
Insulting him? Was that what this was?
He couldn’t understand it. Did Kayden Scott actually think Felicity was beautiful?
Did people like him have such strange tastes?
He didn’t dare ask, though.
He just gave an awkward laugh and said, “Of course not, boss. It’s not just her, I’ve got plenty of women for you to choose from! If you’re interested, I can take you to find something even more beautiful, more high-class, tonight!”
As he spoke, a touch of ingratiation appeared on his face.
When dealing with people like Kayden Scott, of course, he had to suck up as much as possible.
To be honest, he didn’t even find this woman attractive. His taste was more in line with a refined, sophisticated beauty, not one with a face half-covered by a red mark.
Wait a minute…
A thought struck him.
That’s right, it must be because he’d already slept with this woman.
How could someone like Kayden Scott possibly be interested in a woman he’d already been with?
Bruno slapped his thigh in sudden realization. “Don’t worry, boss, I haven’t slept with her yet. She’s still clean. Last night I got drunk and planned to sleep with her today, but then you showed up.”
“Get lost!” Kayden Scott snapped coldly, losing patience with him.
Bruno was a sharp guy, but he was too devious. Talking to him was like wasting time and energy!
Bruno shook with fear after that reprimand. “Yes, yes, yes!” He quickly waved his hand, signaling for the woman to leave.
Once she was gone, Kayden Scott’s gaze turned sharply toward Owen Thomas, who had been kneeling on the ground.
Owen Thomas had been carefully watching Kayden Scott, and when their eyes met, he couldn’t help but shudder in fear.
Is today the day?
He quickly lowered his head, not daring to meet Kayden Scott’s eyes.
But even though he wasn’t looking at Kayden Scott, that didn’t mean Kayden Scott couldn’t see him. Kayden Scott slowly walked over to Owen Thomas, his voice laced with malice. “Next, we have a debt to settle.”
It was clear that Kayden Scott was speaking directly to Owen Thomas.
“Ah!” Owen Thomas looked up in shock at Kayden Scott, stammering, “I already paid you, didn’t I?”
Kayden Scott’s gaze remained icy as he locked eyes with Owen Thomas. “You gave me the money, yes. Principal and interest have been settled. But what about the matter of murder? Don’t you think we should clear that up, too?”
Owen Thomas was completely baffled by these words.
Murder? Don’t let Owen Thomas’ criminal background fool you-he had never killed anyone! He had been in a few fights, sure, but never a murder.
He was confused. Even Felicity and Bruno stood there with dumbfounded looks on their faces.
Owen Thomas, almost in tears, protested, “God, are you mistaken? I’ve never killed anyone in my life! I’ve never even killed a chicken, let alone a person!” His face was full of indignation, like he had been wrongly accused.
Kayden Scott casually walked up to Owen Thomas and looked down at him, saying, “Don’t worry, I won’t make a mistake.”
“Five years ago, you borrowed 100, 000 from Felicity’s father. A year ago, he died because he couldn’t afford the treatment. If you had given him the money back then, maybe he would still be alive today. But you didn’t. You kept the money for yourself and let him die. So, you’re guilty of manslaughter. You killed Felicity’s father.”
Kayden Scott’s words were like a hammer, each one hitting its target.
Owen Thomas was completely stunned, unable to say a word.
“Fuck!”
Bruno exploded in rage. “You did such a low-life thing?! You damn bastard, you’ve brought shame to your family!”
With that, he kicked Owen Thomas hard, sending him tumbling to the ground.
After the kick, Bruno panted heavily and said, “Sorry, sir. I couldn’t help myself. Anyone who does something like that deserves to be punished. Don’t look at me like I’m the bad guy-I’m all about justice at heart!”
Kayden Scott didn’t even bother correcting him. People like Bruno were all the same-greedy and ruthless, but when faced with real power, they scrambled to please.
Kayden Scott didn’t speak, just looked at Owen Thomas, his eyes cold and unfeeling. “So, what should we do next? You know the answer.”
Owen Thomas shuddered under that gaze, sweat pouring down his back.
Kayden Scott spoke with the authority of a judge, each word deliberate and final. “You owe a debt. You killed someone. Shouldn’t the price for that be your life?”
