Chapter 37

Kamara’s POV
I paced in front of Nana’s ward, biting my nails. I didn’t mind the pain I was feeling in my arm. Compared to Nana who was shot close to a vital spot, it was so much different for her. What if something goes wrong? What would Diego do once he realizes we both left home without any guards protecting us.
As soon as I dropped his name in my thoughts, I felt a chilly presence approaching me, making me look up to see him approaching at full strides. He walked past me like I wasn’t even there, trying to head into her ward but I quickly rushed in front of him to stop him.
“No. The doctors said to wait out there till they’re done”
“And you think I give a damn about what they might have to say? This is my grandmother we’re talking about. Get the fuck out of my way before I make you.” he snarled, serious about what he had just said but I honestly wasn’t going to move and watch him trash the entire place.
“You have to calm down,” I let out a soft sigh. “I know no one was expecting this and Nana is in a critical condition, but your staying out will also help in her healing faster.” I explained as much as I could, hoping it would get to him. All I got was a hard glare and soft cursing from under his breath as he headed towards a seat, pulling out a cigarette from his pocket.
“I’m sorry sir,” a nurse interrupted and I almost felt sorry for her. “Smoking is not allowed in the hospital.”
“Who do you think you are telling me what to do? Do you have a death wish? Or you’d rather I ruin you to get my mind off the fucking events happening now.” He thundered, intimidating her as she shot up, making her shrivel in fear. I stood between the two, glaring up at him with a side eye.
“I’ll be the one putting a gun down your throat if you don’t do as she said. This is a hospital, Diego. And being irritated now won’t solve anything.” I rolled my eyes, making him grab my arm harshly but before he could say a word, I hissed out in pain, letting out a soft groan alongside.
He froze for a moment as his eyes fell on the bandage used for my wound. Blood was already seeping out of the stitches. He grabbed my arm again, this time gently lifting it up to get a better view of it. “You got hurt?” He asked, his tone soft and gentle which surprised me but I wasn’t taken by it.
“I was just shot but they were able to get the”
I didn’t complete my sentence when he lifted me effortlessly, making a squeal of surprise escape my lips. What the fuck was going on with him, acting this way?
He didn’t say a word and just led me into the elevator and we soon got to what seemed to be like the first aid floor. He sat me on one of the beds, gesturing towards the woman in white coat who was seated there speaking to someone.
Within a second thought, she approached us with an expectant smile. “It’s great to see you, Don Diego.” She said before looking down at me with a raised brow. “I see you brought someone else here.”
“I don’t have time for chit chat, Flora. Stitch her up and let her return to me.” Diego said and without another word, he stormed out of the room which was so like him. I was much more worried about his mood when speaking to others. What if he did enter the emergency ward just to see Nana and used this as an excuse to go?
I sprang up to head outside but I was blocked by the lady dangling a bandage in her hand. The look she had in her eyes wasn’t that of someone who wants to be friends. “So are you part of his collection of women too? It’s only a matter of time before he dumps you too.” She snickered, ripping off the bandage around my arm and placing a new one.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked her but she ignored me, seeming focused on what she was doing till she was done and looked back up at him. “I’ll tell you to stop flocking around another woman’s man. It views you as a slut.” She said with a fake smile before stropping her tools, clapping her hands together.
Without sparing her another glance, I rose up, heading out of the large ward, trying to find my way back to Nana’s ward. I knew he would be waiting there but I didn’t really want to see him. And that doctor’s words made me wonder if he really had another woman he’s kept a secret since we obviously had never gotten along right from the start and I wasn’t complaining about it.
I looked up and noticed I had wandered into a beautiful looking garden. The entire air was filled with a sweet floral scent and the atmosphere was quiet from noise as there wasn’t anyone on this side of the garden. It looked like the perfect place to stay and you will forget about everything bothering you.
“You’re pretty aren’t you?” A masculine voice made me turn to look over my shoulder. A fancy looking man was standing there, his long hair neatly combed to his back and his hands tucked in his trousers, hiding underneath his coat. He looked like an elegant and sophisticated individual.
“Excuse me?” I said, turning back to look at him, wondering if I’ve seen him before or had an encounter but it didn’t ring a bell. “Have we met?”
As I said these words, I could see his lips rise in a very devilish way and I almost took a step back but I bumped into something.
“I’m sure the boss would love this little present belonging to Diego himself.” Was the last thing I heard before everything went black.
