Elaine POV
“I don’t believe that… he said he would save me,” Lawrence mumbled.
“You heard what we all did, Lawrence,” I said softly. “I know how what it feels like to be betrayed by him.”
“Wait, save you from what?” Blazer asked.
Since listening to Neel’s recording Blazer and Lynn joined us but Rae and Richie were still missing.
Lawrence raked a hand through his hair. “I’m hybrid. That came with a death sentence.”
“What?” I gasped.
“You weren’t born with the ability to heal yourself I’m dying,” Lawrence confessed.
Damn…
“This is fucked up,” Blazer spat.
“In more ways than one. I don’t want that psycho to be the moon god!” Neel grumbled and I echoed his thoughts.
If Dad succeeds, then I’ll die.
Azaire wrapped an arm around my shoulders and kissed the top of my head. I snuggled into him and breathed in his scent. I dropped a tear because we were together again.
He rubbed my back in response to my emotions.
“Laiken won’t win. We have no choice. The first thing he’ll do is wipe out the Blood Moon Pack,” Azaire said.
“You got that right,” Neel mumbled. “I’m taking my troops and we’re leaving. The second I get home I’m enforcing all my borders to prepare for a fight when it comes.”
“What about the magic?” Lynn asked.
“Magic?” I asked her.
Lynn chewed on her bottom lip and crossed her arms.
“If you know something now’s the time to say it, Lynn,” Azaire grumbled.
Lynn glared at him. “It’s so nice to see you Azaire,” she said bitterly.
Azaire ground his teeth. “Thanks for never picking up my calls or returning my texts, Lynn.”
She rolled her eyes. “Don’t be dramatic. If you wanted me, you knew where to find me.”
“Rae needed you,” Azaire said.
Lynn brushed off his words but deep down I think his words hit home.
“Laiken and Avena are married. Who do you think’s going to be at his disposal? The coven!”
“Fuck! What am I supposed to do now? Move my Pack?” Neel threw his arms in the air.
“There’s nowhere you can run at this point. We need a plan,” Azaire said. “I need to find Richie.”
“There you guys are!” Rae called.
She pulled up her dress as she marched towards us then she paused and locked eyes with Lynn.
“You!”
“Why didn’t anyone tell me she was here?” Lynn scowled.
“Come on you’re sisters,” Azaire said.
“You’re not our Father,” Lynn barked.
“Yeah, stay out of it, Azaire,” Rae blasted.
I snickered as Azaire frowned. I rubbed his back and yanked him away from the squabbling women.
“What are you doing here? Are you trying to kill Elaine?” Rae barked. “All your coven’s done is try to murder us!”
“What? I’m here to help.”
Rae laughed cynically. “Very funny! All dark witches do is create chaos.”
“Alright, relax. We’re here undercover we don’t want to be caught,” Lawrence said coming between them. He leaned towards Rae and placed a hand on her back. She settled down and stared at her shaking hands.
“What now?” I asked but was cut off when I noticed several cars drove up to the house. I gripped Azaire’s arm and he followed my gaze.
Several men and women strolled towards the house. I assumed they were guests but then the music stopped.
“The Council of Alphas,” Neel said.
“Whoa, who called them?” I asked.
“I did. My Father’s on the council of Alphas. I told him Laiken took a witch as a wife. It’s against sacred law.”
I stared at Azaire but he looked away. I was part witch that law might stop us from being together but he didn’t want to talk about it now. If that’s the only way to slow down my Dad then it’s what we got. We hurried into the house and found several Alphas standing in front of my Dad and Avena but there was a group of women standing behind Avena, all dressed in black.
“Oh no,” Lynn mumbled. “The coven’s here.”
Lynn faded into the background.
“You can’t stop my marriage. No one can. It’s done,” Laiken said.
“This is against sacred law! You’ll bring about the destruction of the werewolf line! The moon goddess punishes all hybrid children,” An Alpha argued.
“Really?” Laiken asked. “I have two hybrid children and they are both healthy.”
Gasps escaped the guests and the Alphas confronted my Father. The secret was out.
“Why are you doing this, Laiken?” a woman in a long creamy dress asked.
Dad turned to his new bride.
“The only thing we can tell you is this alliance makes Laiken stronger. We have an entire coven behind us,” Avena said.
“The council won’t stand for this!”
“What do you want us to do Avena?” Laiken asked.
Avena smirked wickedly. “Kill them all.”
“Fuck,” Azaire mumbled. “Go everyone now.”
